Has happened to me a few times in high school marching band. It's a pretty horrible feeling having no idea where you're supposed to be going.

I didn't read the whole thread but... I'm a clarinet player who really wanted to march drum corps, and I learned euphonium last summer. If your willing to work a little bit it's not really hard to learn a brass instrument(especially euphonium), and I really don't think woodwinds belong in drum and bugle corps.

We played Canon in D for our marching show last year, our low brass actually liked those 8 notes hes whining about.

That's a good point. I don't think a corps is going to score LOWER just because they don't have a creative uniform design, but those corps who's uniforms are just more aesthetically pleasing and just appear sharper might have a slight edge... just my thoughts.
