  1. I like that he didn't commit any faux paus like calling the corps "marching bands". He actually sounded credible for a novice. Good for him!
  2. I liked when the Blooo's drumline chased the hornline/ guard to the end zone.
  3. Agree or disagree with the OP, it was a well laid out post.
  4. I sure hope so. Out of all the webcast performances that are on DCI, Crown's is the only one I keep going back to. They have a lot of fun in their show. It's entertaining, the hornline and drumline sound great and their guard is amazing.
  5. I agree. They had a fun and entertaining drumline.
  6. I was thinking the same thing. The beginning just seemed a little off. After the drum break I felt they settled in and I'm buying the hype. They definitely had some screamers in their horn line.
  7. The summer festivals was my favorite part of living in Milwaukee.
  8. Why must the bottom 14 or so corps jockey for a position in the evening show (in reference to today's SA show)? Why not just start the show with all the corps in their groupings and let that be that?
  9. I wrote what I was trying to say all wonky. I was referring to performance order. PR performs before Bluecoats in the fifth to last slot and Bluecoats are fourth to last. I meant that I didn't see Phantom scoring higher than Bluecoats and thus would keep PR in fifth place (in regards to performance order).
  10. Going by top 7 appearance order: Bluecoats are fourth to last. I think they can stay ahead of Phantom to secure a fourth place finish and possibly eek out ahead of Cadets for third but it will be tough. SCV will move up ahead of Crown. It might be interesting to hear the crowd reaction to this (especially if Crown knocks it out of the park) since Crown's show seems to be a hands down crowd favorite this year (mine too!). BD and Cavs will trade places with Devils winning.
  11. Fantastic review. I liked your Michael Bay analogy. I never thought of the Devils that way but you hit the nail on the head. Thank you.
  12. I have audio cassette tapes from my 90/91 years (finals of all corps). If I get my rear in gear, I'll burn them onto CD and send you a copy. I believe at the time I marched, we most likely had the youngest drumline in DCA. I remember watching other lines and thinking how ancient they were. We were heavily layered with high school players. They either marched junior corps or were going to junior corps the following years. We definitely had the junior corps mindset in regards to approach and dedication. I mentioned the "Crossmen effect" in my post above. Our percussion book was written by Mark Thurston (then X-men arranger). Our caption head was former X-men. A few of our players were former Bones and the few current players went on to play with Crossmen. From there, the trickle down effect occurred with instructor jobs throughout DCA drumlines. Another great thing I loved about marching DCA was the local connections with other bands/ colleges. Ahhh, the trip down memory lane is good.
  13. In regards to a junior corp drumline essence, I'd go back a few more years to '88/'89/'90 and (sorry Bushwackers :P ) look at the Westshoremen model. The "Crossmen effect" still trickles down to this day (re: Buccaneers).
  14. Thanks for the compilation. p.s. Your "I believe" video is excellent.
  15. Meh, some trash talking is good for the soul. It helps relieve the frustration. Besides, you should've reminded them how low they were going to place while they were talking smack about the corps that were going to blow them away at the scores announcements. That may have shut them up pretty quick.
  16. I remember the Hershey '90 show being very receptive to us. Our drumline was on fire that night and the crowd loved it.
  17. I'm asking this out of genuine curiosity. My three good friends marched in the '89 drumline ( we all went to high school together). While I enjoyed watching them play many times, I didn't find anything innovative about their book.
  18. right click on the DCI video player and click on properties. Copy the url into your windows media player (in the 'open url' link).
  19. Woo hoo! Good picture on windows media player.
  20. Big Story (one of them): Crossmen's successful move to Texas.
  21. The drumline is smoking. I kept reminding myself of that during the narration parts. I really want to like the narration. I really do. But, the whole thing just seems like a bad version of Stuart Smalley "I'm strong enough and gosh darn, people like me". I'm not opposed to narration (I'm looking forward to Crown's show) but boy-o-boy, it was crammed into this show. If I want a musical with speaking, I'll catch a Broadway show instead.
  22. I'll toss in my $.02: Cavies Bluecoats Crown Cadets Glassmen Spirit I initially had Cadets above Crown but after seeing their first review on the net, I think it may be a rough start for them.
  23. I agree. Take Cadets bassline which almost seems like it's mic'd versus PR's line and you can barely make out the notes. It's a shame because PR's bassline has been jamming the last few years.
