DCI HOUSTON - Hot, Humid, & Happening!
MrBud replied to CloudFuel's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I think they march CLEANER than Crown and Boston. (maybe not as challenging, but cleaner) I thought Cadets Percussion also sounded more together... Horns need something...and GE needs something...IT NEEDS TO SNOW! That is what they are missing! SNOW! -
DCI HOUSTON - Hot, Humid, & Happening!

My speakers are freaking me out today...Is it Houston? Houston? the place where astronauts get their communications from???? You are right...Boston Crusaders drill seems so inadequate compared to Crown. They used primarily normal step size... Seems kind of boring now? But how do you get great scores in technique if you have to run??? -

We are looking to purchase a podium that can be used as something to stand on for 3-4 people, than can work a visual rehearsal over a drum corps field. It can be a design for wood. It can be a design for metal. looking for some suggestions... Bud McCormick mrbud2190@optonline.net 732-833-4600 ext 4357

Santa Clara Vanguard - GE Music and Brass Scores
MrBud replied to MrBud's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I WOULD SAY - SANTA CLARA VANGUARD has stepped in the RIGHT DIRECTION with the PERCUSSION. This year the PERCUSSION SECTION has beaten EVERY DRUM LINE IN DCI. Was it because the kids were too young? Was it because they didnt like the music? Was it because they didnt have enough training? IT WAS BECAUSE the VANGUARD ADMINISTRATION went out and GOT THE BEST PERCUSSION INSTRUCTOR THERE IS. That is what GAIL ROYER used to do! PETER EMMONS, FRED SANFORD, and HIMSELF...C WELL the TIME HAS COME! The ADMINISTRATION needs to GO OUT and GET A BRASS ARRANGER! The BEST THERE IS! PERIOD! The ADMINISTRATION needs to GO OUT and GET A BRASS STAFF that can TEACH in the style of the NEW BRASS ARRANGER! THE TIME HAS COME! Throw away the key, and LOCK THE DOOR!!! -

I was at the Show sitting on the 50 yard line..I have not seen the recaps yet, but this is my feeling for tonight... 1) GE - Cadets (They were on fire) GE Music Definitely..Guard might of been a little sloppy. Percussion right on.. 2) Blue Devils - Clean marching..(Guard was on fire) Horns very clean, snares little loose 3) Carolina Crown - BIG BIG Sound..Crowd favorite of the kids. 4) Cavaliers - Enjoyed the Visual, Horns not putting out the sound 5) Phantom Regiment - Passionate sound of the night (Awesome) 6) Santa Clara Vanguard - Throw away the Key and LOCK the DOOR! 7) Blue Coats - Not enough effect to get a number 8) Blue Stars - Growing pains back up to the top...

When are corps going to come back to their roots?
MrBud replied to MrBud's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Just saying: IF someone did a color pre, they would probably get hurt with it. The judges would say: The American Flag is a distraction to the flag work during the piece" The Military precision is gone. I PREDICT, that if G7 exists, it might come back again like this: ps...I would go pay to see this!!! -
Do you ever get bothered by the way the corps do things, because the judges say: "It should be done this way" EXAMPLE: For the last 15 years or so, ALL CORPS changed their uniforms because, the uniform should enhance where the sound is coming from. So ALL THE CORPS changed their style and history because of a few judges.. EXAMPLE: You cant wear spats, you cant wear white shoes, it will expose the marching errors, and detract from where the sounds come from! EXAMPLE: You cant do any sensational marching effects during the show, because it has to "flow with the music. it has to enhance each phrase." EXAMPLE: Why is there a Color pre in the middle of your show? etc.... DRUM CORPS HAVE COME A LONG WAY for the POSITIVE!...But when i watch MADISON SCOUTS, and hear their traditional music, i miss seeing their spats! When i see SANTA CLARA VANGUARD, I miss seeing their full red jackets, that go down past their waist, plus their white shoes. When i see TROOPERS, i miss seeing their Traditional Trooper uniform. Their Uniforms must enhance their show. If they were Trooper uniforms it wont go with the music! NONSENSE TO ALL THIS! JUST DO IT, BECAUSE IT IS DRUM CORPS,and SCREW ALL THE JUDGES and the UNIFORM COMPANIES that want to make a BUCK!

Most impressive "reign of terror" in corps history
MrBud replied to WestCoaster's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I remember when SCV was competing there were 180 Drum Corps in competition. The corps that have won recently have beaten - hmmnn....15? Much more impressive with the amount of corps that were beaten...
