  1. There's also a place for "tough love." Better to learn it now on an internet message board where it's temporary and easily amendable than to learn the hard way later on by being the person who isn't respected anywhere they march.
  2. I'm honestly impressed by his clairvoyance. While he's divining the future, do you think we should ask him about the apocalypse, who or next president will be, or the future of alternative energy?
  3. So the question then becomes: does anyone know what kind of break it was? The idea of a broken femur has already been established as impossible. That's just common sense. But the story seems to be true...so does anyone know what was broken/how severely?
  4. He's from Pembroke Pines. While that doesn't justify ignorance, it certainly does explain it.
  5. Shin splints. Lasted about 2 weeks. I'm sure lots of others have shared this experience.
  6. I read through this thread specifically to see if someone tied Jeremy Soule and Total Annihilation together. Awesome game, awesome soundtrack. Thank you.
  7. Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaha, good troll. And good movie. Liked it a lot.
  8. Thanks! And yeah I figured it would be adapted but that's fine by me, I generally prefer "down to earth" singing to operatic singing anyway. Can't wait to see it!
  9. I'm hoping to take my girlfriend to see ST tonight...just wondering, could anyone who has seen the movie let me know which numbers exactly have been cut? I'm crossing my fingers that they kept the meat pies song in there...and the one where the judge flagellates himself... Thanks!
  10. I like this. I stood in for the piano player for a couple of pit orchestra rehearsals when FSU did Sweeney Todd, and I have to say that the music is absolutely fantastic. I'm glad that they kept it relatively untouched for the movie. It's also ridiculously flipping hard (especially to sight read). Definitely going to see it now, maybe even tonight!
  11. Heh, I bet! I love the responses to the first comment asking about corps directors and discussion on how different corps directors integrate themselves into their corps. For example, I came from a corps where the director was involved in every step of the creative process from start to finish and ran ensemble rehearsals, sometimes even brass rehearsals if we were in-between caption heads on tour. Personally, I thought it was a bit much, but everyone has their own style.
  12. Well a corps director's participation as far as instruction goes varies from corps to corps. However, corps directors play a very critical role in interacting with the performers. They are often the "spiritual" leader of a group (Hopkins with Cadets and Fielder with Cavaliers both pop immediately to mind) and they are the motivators. While some corps directors may run an ensemble rehearsal and some may not, their influence is most strongly felt off the field in my opinion.
  13. So your argument is that things were better back then "just because?" Bull. ####.
  14. Wow, that's funny. I've never actually seen a "non DCI fluent newcomer" venting about how much shows today are "inaccessible." I don't know, maybe there's a "DCI fan rookie" forum on DCP that I'm missing somewhere where all this is going on?
  15. Indeed I bet we do....I actually lived off of my friend's sofa for a couple of weeks when I was down there, and he lives very close to UCF and was going to school there. He marched SCV. :) I also marched (toy soldiers, that is) with 2 Cavaliers members and another Boston Crusaders, some Magic members from the 2002-2003 season, a Crown member/future Cadets member, and others I'm probably forgetting at the moment. And of course Ron Ellis was involved with Teal Sound (although after checking the website it looks like he's no longer there). Dang...talking about it is making me really miss it...last fall/winter will probably go down as one of the best memories of my life. I probably would've tried out again this year but I quit playing trumpet back in February and have been focusing on other musical pursuits.
  16. You know, I'm not sure that I ever ran into another corps member when I wore my corps jacket into the park, except the ones I worked with. Hm. Now I'm curious what you do...I got my comp tickets and I'm coming down right before the Christmas blackout to see all my friends performing in the parade this year!
  17. Yeah, you don't see many short Vietnamese women in drum corps, do you?
  18. Indeed sir, but it's still a ####load of fun. If any of you go to Disney this Christmas and see the toy soldier band unit IN ORLANDO (the one in Cali is all professional musicians, not college musicians), just know that many of them (if not most) march or have marched corps.
  19. So you're saying that he actually perpetrated the tragedy in order to write a tribute show which would allow The Cadets to win DCI and Hopkins to take over the universe? Interesting. Sounds like you have some pretty concrete evidence behind your assertions.
  20. I would say that you're probably misinterpreting the action. I seriously doubt that Hopkins is callous enough to use a recent tragedy as a gimmick to get points. They probably saved it to be a SPECIAL ending for finals only, something new and no doubt emotional. I'm sure that The Cadets/Hopkins had nothing in mind but to honor the fallen and the heroes of the occasion.
