  1. Corpsvets sponsor the August 5th Rockmart, GA show.
  2. I understand that it's just your opinion but why do you have such a closed mind? You are just simply wrong that they won't be heard. The tenors aren't Remo either. As has been mentioned elsewhere, those are designed by our Caption Head, Leif Marweade and are patent pending. They sound fantastic and sure are lighter than standard tenors. I dare say that if Cru decided to march these, you'd strap one on. "It's different, it's not the tradition, we must hunt it down and kill it!" "We fear change."
  3. Singing "Enormous #####" this year. Singing "Don't Worry, Be Happy" last year. Singing "Prayer for the Children" several years ago. We only had a quartet and didn't know that you had to have at least 10. The other group complained so they created a new category for us when we won. We realized later that if they had applied the rules of a 10th of a point penalty for any under 10 we still would have won! Winning the Bari/Euph solo award this year. I really had fun playing that piece, whether or not I won. And finally, Brigs infamous pit a few years ago with Kelly (mmmmmmm Kelly), I think it was the last year in Allentown and it was amazing, entertaining, and just #### good.
  4. Two suggestions: They have lamp kits at Home Depot and you can secure the bell to a stand and work the wiring through and Voila!, you have a cool lamp. Seen these several places. On the more adventuresome side, I have 4 Tympani (fiberglass shells) that were of no use to anyone and missing tons of parts so it would have been more expensive to fix up than scrap so I put them to good use. They are currently planters in my back yard with the rims standing upright over the back of them and Ivy working through and around the rims. This is on three of them and the 4th is designated for an old Trombone. I bought a fountain kit and have plans to set that up through the bell.
  5. One answer I know to this one would be the visuals incorporated into the performance.
  6. Well said. Those of us that have been with CorpsVets from the beginning (or even later, for that matter) know some of the struggles you experienced. From a parade corps in 98, to a few field shows in 99, to almost (should have) won Class A in 00, and winning it in 01, to the consistent finalists always improving, it's been a great, extremely fast and extremely slow 9 years (so far). We've also spurred the growth of DCA South and are trying to make sure that stays stable. Forgive not only my poor grammar but my patting us on the back....just felt a sense of deep and strong pride as I look back (and forward) at my corps. To me, it's not so much about jumps in placements but steadily improving and striving for that perfection (whatever that is defined as) and about entertaining the crowd. I'd like to think we've done that over the years.
  7. Good call! With that in mind, I'll bring up Hunter Moss (again) with Spirit and now with CV. Not only is he consistently in tune in all ranges and volumes on the horn, he has an amazing tone and control in every register. Listen to CV recordings over the past 8 years and you'll see what I mean.
  8. Is that how you get almost 80,000 posts and average almost 100 posts per day and nearly 30 percent of all the posts on DCP?
  9. Man, I really like this idea. Going to try it myself. The only things I'd add would be to do some sit ups. It's the stomach muscles that help hold your posture erect :sshh: . Also, we've had some guys in our line who'll put extra ankle weights out toward the end of the horn. Thought being that if you can do that, you're a d######, er, um, I mean it seems lighter when you take them off.
  10. I may be stepping out of bounds here but you will notice a very obvious lack of CorpsVets posters here on DCP for exactly the reasons stated above.
  11. I have an answer to that question. I was 12 and by myself one night and decided to find out. 2,250 was my count. By the end I couldn't move my tongue. Had to move the Tootsie Pop. I would like to think that this has helped me in years since. (Dot the "i"). GSB....continue on. /I'll apologize now for the two inside jokes in this reply
  12. I think the question was referring to an all euph line. Could be reading that wrong. CV did march an all euph line save 1 or 2 baris last year. Doing the same this year. Euphs on each part. Looking forward to hearing Rocky Point played well and up to speed. Huge Ron Nelson fan for years. Studied with him at Brevard Music Center in the 80s.
  13. It's called a joke! Lighten up Frances. To the issues of mouthpieces, in the CV bari/euph (most of us are on euphs now on every part) we get everyone on at least a Schilke 51D. Several are on 51C4s and some are on larger ones. The biggest issue we were dealing with were those that would come in on a 6 1/2AL and you're just fighting a beast that can't be tamed. Not that I believe that everyone has to be on the same but at least get them on the same playing field (pun intended).
  14. I've played bari and Contra in the same year at I & E won with each (one year bari ensemble, one year contra ensemble) and I've competed solo against Tish a few times as well. Happened to be lucky enough to win this year on a euphonium. Also won in chorus (6th year in a row).
  15. I know there's a thread about the quality of the DVD but I was wondering if someone who has seen the DVDs of this year would do a review. My request would be that someone who wasn't at finals, didn't get to see everyone, in other words a "fresh face," for lack of a better term, share their thoughts are on the weekend. Difficult, seeing as how most people who order the DVD were probably at finals but I guess I'd just like to see another set of reviews. For that matter, I'd like to hear any more reviews of the finals weekend. Thanks,
  16. Pirates of the Opera/Phantom of the Caribbean speaking of juxtapositions
  17. We did "Tank" in '02 and "Rush" in '03. If you listen carefully, you can hear elements of "Tank" in the Contra line at the end of the show in '03. It's on the DVDs. Loved playing that stuff from Cowboy Bebop and even wanted to do "Spy," a very cool 3/4 tune that sounds very Bond-like. Darryl Jones did the fine arrangements. To answer the topic question, I don't really want to put my fav idea on here because I'm afraid someone will do it before CV does so I'll put my next idea down. Tunes that get stuck in your head/songs you love to hate. YMCA Macarena ABC - Jackson 5 I Love You - Barney On the Road Again MmmBop Pachabel Canon There's a million more and I can't think of them all now and quite a few politically INcorrect ones that I'm refraining from adding :sshh: B)
  18. Hunter marched with Spirit and now is with CorpsVets. We are very lucky and proud to have him on board.
  19. CV practices there! some excellent Chinese, BBQ, Southern, and Italian food (not necessarily at the same restaurant). locals that love us. Mayor Teems The Silver Comet Trail a DCAS show at RHS and CV practices there! Corpsvets 2006
  20. Several in CV use them as well. Pretty sure our entire contra line will have them next year. We've actually informally spoken to Joe about a sponsorship.
