  1. Wow, pick two up, one falls away! Looking for 1 baritone player! Next rehearsal June 6. Visit http://austinstars.org
  2. bump. Also, we're selling ads in the TXDCP program book we're putting together. If anyone is interested in placing an ad in support of one of the corps, or to promote your business, we'd be happy to place it in the book. Please e-mail fundraiser@austinstars.org for additional information and pricing information. Prices start at $1 for a one-line text ad!
  3. Is this perhaps a rephrasing of the quote? I've searched and cannot find this anywhere. I'd think it would be quite an impactful quote that someone would have archived.
  4. I have no idea. And then when you ask someone to clarify their statement, it gets worse! Anyway, I'm glad Rochester is getting a WGI Regional! It will help those few guards from Canada by reducing their travel, and help some of the New England guards as well! Now if only it would move back to Norristown, PA! Not that I could go anymore, but I loved the regional at that venue.
  5. So it's either at Akins or it doesn't happen, is that what you're saying?
  6. Austin Stars were a big hit at the March of Dimes Walk for Babies this past weekend here in Austin! At our next rehearsal we plan to put the finishing touches on the opener, and to also add our 2nd song onto the field with music. The hornline is sounding great, the colorguard is shaping up very nicely, and percussion is showing some solid skills, although currently our smallest section, we're all quite impressed with them! :-) Interest is increasing steadily, but we always have room for more! :-D
  7. This may be brought up at the TCGC meeting on Sunday... and potentially to WGI at their meeting.
  8. If the judge's agree, so will we! :-) After all, part of recruiting (especially here in TX) is being able to say that the judge's loved us and we scored well, etc. Of course, having a theme helps build cohesiveness in the show concept and the way it's put together, imo. I kind of like it, but wouldn't mind exploring some "old school" drum corps concepts :-)
  9. I almost wish I was marching with you guys this year! What a great guard instructional staff!
  10. Hey everyone! We're in the process of trying to set up a Texas Drum Corps Preview website, as well as including information on AustinStars site as well. Just wanted to let everyone know about this! Thanks for all the support so far! :-)
  11. They were all in A class-- you may have missed them due to waiting to see the World Class guards.
  12. I'd recommend the premier's also. Good rifles, and they'll work on getting a nice balance and weight for you. Ultimate rifles are back as well, although slightly different in the neck design and the type of paint or painting process used. They are also the least expensive right now (probably trying to build business back up). Definitely get a strap-- leather is better than webbing. OH-- and whatever you get TAPE IT BEFORE YOU TOSS IT!
  13. Just saw Zydeco will not be back next year. Cant' find that thread of IW guard folding, though.
  14. Are there any rumors of NEW world class guards coming out next year?
  15. I think Proposal 16 makes sense.. in terms of randomizing neighborhoods for performance at finals... in conjunction with the Proposal 14 tie-breaker idea of drawing random numbers...i think that would be a way to make it most fair, although I'm sure some people would state that "the best guard" or "highest scoring" guard from prelims should have the option of going on last at finals, especially the smaller regionals that may only have 2 or 3 in a class? I think accepting these two would totally negate the concept of Propsal 15, which, as Ginger stated, seems unfair as it is only applied to one class. Proposal 12... I understand how frustrating it must be to score higher than another guard that makes it on to the next round when you do not. However, is it realistic to assume that all scores could be documented accurately in a short time period to ensure that everyone knows what is going on? Would that then necessitate the posting of ALL scores at each site to ensure that no one has any questions about whether or not they make it to the next round? My main problem with Proposal 42(?) regarding not letting college kids compete in IA... is that it really doesn't make rational sense. It seems more like an emotional response to situations that have occurred to this person and his/her guard. It's also not clearly written, so I can read about 10 different things into it. It almost seems like someone just writing a bunch of thoughts down, and perhaps trying to have 2 or 3 proposals in one. I do wonder how the double panel might have affected some groups either positively or negatively from this past season. I can think of two cases where I saw a big discrepancy in number from one judge on a panel that either hurt or harmed a couple of the guards, and I think Proposals 27 and 28 both may have something to do with those situations. I think having a double panel at world championships finals makes sense, since almost all the judges are in attendance anyway. Not sure it would be financially viable for EVERY regional. Finally, Proposal 21- YES! Why should these groups have to pay the same amount to attend a regional and not have the chance to possibly make finals? Either implement, or let regional A guards attend for 1/2 the price!
  16. Thanks for all the information, everyone! :-) Very helpful!
  17. Wow! After spending all that money already? I actually don't remember the uniforms, though, even though I saw them last year.
  18. No, I was just asking if that's what you meant. I was kind of confused. Thanks for clarifying!
  19. so, 2 of the 4 rifles rotated together?
  20. I'm wondering if there's someone to contact regarding renting equipment (horns, etc.) as a way to help out while they take this year off...? Anyone know who I can get in touch with?
  21. Then bring back the "tick" system too! You'll get the best of both worlds!
  22. I've heard that Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps has its largest guard ever this year. I think the number I heard was 24? Looking forward to seeing them on the field!
  23. That's my point. The flags I've ordered from Band Hall have not held up well. Does a heat cutter work on non-lame' fabric as well?
