  1. Many more than you'd imagine. More importantly....the snowball effect this will cause. How many more young men and women will come out...not only from the Cadets organization, but from other organizations. I mean, let's not act like we didn't know this type of behavior went on in this activity.
  2. STRYKE Percussion, WGI 2008 PIO Bronze Medalist is selling all their front ensemble equipment. All equipment is Dynasty and only been used for TWO seasons. So everything is still is GREAT shape! We have very mature members that would clean and take care of their equipment every week. Dynasty Concert Bass Drum 36" x 20" Dynasty Concert Bass Drum Stand Dynasty 4.5 Marimba Synthetic w/PC Dynasty 4.3 Marimba Synthetic w/PC Dynasty 3.0 Vibe w/PC Dynasty 3.5 Xylo Synthetic w/PC Dynasty Pro Steel Orchestra Bells Dynasty Keyboard Holder for PC Dynasty 23" Timpani Dynasty 26" Timpani Dynasty 29" Timpani Dynasty 32" Timpani Dynasty Pro Chimes Dynasty Accessory Holder & Clamp Dynasty Cymbal Boom Arm Dynasty Concert Snare/Break Drum Attch for PC All front ensemble stuff (except the 4.5 marimbas and chimes) come with covers as well. We're willing to through in stick/mallet bags for all instruments as well. Basically, this would be a very comprehensive "COMPLETE" package for each piece of equipment!!!!! We'd like to get this cleared out by late August if possible. Please contact me Tony (at) Pacworld.org or Scott (at) Pacworld.org for pricing and details! We have an Excel Spreadsheet with the prices and exact details of each instrument so please don't hesitate to get in touch with us! Prices are negotiable!
  3. Howard did so much for Boston, I'm sure he wouldn't leave without making sure the future of the corps was in good hands. Like said before... They'll be fine. Eat 'em up Boston!
  4. I was there...My first DCI show. I remember turning to my friend and saying "WTF?!?!"
  5. I was told once upon a time not to talk about a sponsor's equipment. But here goes.... "If it's free, it's the best." Corps don't care about WHAT they're using unless it's saving them money. Believe it or not, Drum & Bugle Corps has become a business. The teams have their fans...their fans buy the products they use. If Brand X can give a corps the better deal than Brand Y. That corps will go with them. Companies like Dynasty, Pearl, and Yamaha are the big boys of the market. So they can afford to send off "free" equipment to drumcorps, with the hopes that Band directors will see the instruments in action, and purchase them for their schools....(someone tell me how many highschools there are in the united states with active marching bands). $200,000 of "Borrowed" equipment (yes, most of the time the instruments get returned and resold.) is chump change when you look at the grand scheme of things. In my experience, Dynasty seems to be the company that is pretty much taking over the market. They listen to suggestions on how to improve their product and more often than not, they fix it. Though I'm not a fan of their equipment. Pearl seems to be selective of who they sponsor/endorse. My favorite product out there. once they come out with a Multi-timbre snare, they will regain the top of the mountain. Yamaha is the product i "grew up" using. Used it in High School, Indoor, and the High School I teach and Indoor line (ended up using after our Dynasty equipment got stolen) use Yamaha. love the drums, but maintaining is too often an issue. They have some cool dudes repping their product...but we need better deals. :) We should start a little contest of sorts. If anyone has access to a Snare from each company Yamaha, Dynasty, Pearl, Premier, Ludwig and can outfit each drum with the same top and bottom heads, and each tuned as closely as possible. Try and get a recording of the same lick, from say 15 feet away, and post it on here with a poll. Very important that the names of the companies arent attached to their particular sound. Can anyone make this happen? if not all, then maybe Yamaha, Dynasty, & Pearl? I guarantee people will be surprised.
  6. That was ME holding that banner! B) Everyshow....just before i opened it i would pray that it wasnt upside down haha
  7. Yes, Paradox will most definitely be performing on Saturday. Once we get any info, I'll post it. PDX is borrowing equipment from FIU. And no there was never any talk about PDX folding. 2 Marimbas were inside the band room. In the truck, there were 4 sets of Vibes, 1 Marimba, 1 Xylo, 2 Concert Bassdrums, a concert snare, 2 silver yamaha 14" snares, etc. Duder, your rumors are just that....Rumors. I have pictures of the trailer after it was broken into, with the damaged equipment....No..I will NOT post them, because they don't need to be seen. So these "reports" you are hearing, unless this person has been in contact with ME or Christopher Infante...They know NOTHING. Don't start spreading stupid rumors, nor coming up with ridiculous conspiracy theories. We wouldn't do something to sabotage our own season.
  8. The trailer was parked in the back of a school. Inside their drivers ed lot. Ina s etion where it is also used as a parking lot for teachers of the school. Noone noticed the back doors completely wide open until 2pm. There is 1 camera pointed at the entrance of the drivers ed lot. The trailer cannot be seen from the highway (I-75) because it is blocked by trees. The only way someone can know there was a Trailer back there, was if they had been scoping it out for a while. And yes...most corps leave their equipment in their trailers year round. Theyre just parked in safe, well lit, secured facilities.
  9. Ok...let's see... Why were the instruments still in the truck? -- Kiwanis went inactive in late January. Paradox Percussion Theatre is (was) still using equipment from the truck. -- Storage is too expensive per month...like previously stated -- We don't have basements in Miami. The truck was parked in a place where someone HAD to be watching as equipment was being loaded or unloaded. Also, the fact that it says "KIWANIS KAVALIERS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS " on the side didn't help either. Down here in Miami...or the Hialeah/Miami Lakes area, people will break into a car to steal a cell phone charger....or change out of your ashtray. Someone assumed there would be expensive drums in the truck and found the jackpot. Those of you looking for a quick chuckle by posting about what key the horns are, or this or that...Please do not post on here. I'll be posting updates as we get them...just..Have a little more respect. You all already had your fun when the corps was having its trouble before going inactive. This is more serious.
  10. We have all the serial numbers. - All Pawn Shops in the area will be visited with copies. Throw out the consipiracy theory. It is not an inside job. By looking at the truck, it looked as if people jumped on mallet equipment....grabbed instruments and tossed them out. They left a note saying "BUSTIN U" taped to the back door. It wasn't a Repo, because the instruments were paid for. Any updates will be posted here. The purpose of this thread is to get the word out, and get some help from the drumcorps world. It's better for 100 people to be looking out then 10 you know.
  11. Thursday Night, Friday Morning, the equipment trailer belonging to the Kiwanis Kavaliers parked in the Drivers Ed Lot Located in the back of Barbara Goleman Sr. High School in Miami-Lakes, FL was broken into and pretty much cleaned out. Inside, were all horns, all percussion equipment (currently being used by Paradox Percussion Theatre), Guard Equipment, Uniforms, ETC. We were left with 2 Tenors, 2 bassdrums, 1 snare, all our mallet instruments (i'm guessing they were too big to take) and 7 horns (mellos, and baritones), and Uniforms (which were in a seperate compartment) . Everything else......Gone. We are not asking for donations, however, if you would like to, you can get in contact with the Director of KK. We are asking that if anyone hears or sees anyone selling any Dynasty Horns (Contras, Baritones, Mellos, Euphs, Trumpets) and Dynasty Battery Equipment (7 Black 14" Snares, 2 Black Tenors [6,8,10,12,13,14], and 3 black bass drums [16,20,28]. That you please contact us. Ebay has already been notified, but sometimes some items get over looked. DCIbassdrum@gmail.com Thank You.
  12. Where to begin..... The pregame drumline was not intended to be the center of attention it appeared to be. Before you all jump to conclusions and say "the drumline sucks", " they can't march", "they're sloppy" etc. Just know their main purpose on that field was to have fun... Were they dirty? I'm sure they were...nobody would've noticed since they played along with a prerecorded track. Most of those members are part of the Paradox Percussion Theatre...an Independant Indoor line from Miami, the rest of the drummers on that field were from F.I.U, and Everglades High School. The choreography, drill, and music, was not written by someone with any sort of Marching knowledge. "Lean here....go forward there". Was it bad? No! It was Horrible. We cancelled rehearsal for the superbowl gig... None of them took it serious....so don't over analyze it. They all have more important tasks to accomplish....The Superbowl gig was never at the top of that list. ::Flame away::
  13. When we teamed up with Kiwanis Kavaliers in mid 2006, we knew going in that there would be many obstacles for them to overcome. Mainly obtaining trust from the returning members, and auditionees. It's very hard for a group (not only KK) but any organization to strive when there is so much negativity around. All that is needed is for 1 person to read a negative comment about a certain organization for them to start to believe. They believe it, and it spreads like wild fire. Rest assured that Kiwanis will most definitely be back in 2008. I, my administration and the rest of my staff at Paradox Percussion Theatre, are doing everything in our power to help them get on the road next year. Will it be easy? No. As long as forums exist, negative comments will out number compliments. __ On a side note....watch PDX perform pregame at the Super Bowl! (Sorry...had to plug it B) )
  14. I was with them in 2004 (Bassdrum tech). I remember the admin. telling us (staff) to serve the members food during lunch. I remember running out of food, only to see them bring out cold rice, popcorn and cookies. I also remember getting reamed by a parent. Screaming at me about how we (Magic) could allow her child to have popcorn, cookies, chips, and some other stuff there for lunch, or dinner, while she saw members of the staff at a steakhouse down the street. (I guess i was in the wrong place at the wrong time) How about having to drive the Van with the Gator attached from Texas to FL? (or was it LA to FL...whatever) And then having to be at Visual rehearsal the next morning for the section i worked with. ....and much more... After Mr. Newman took over, a lot of that changed. Tour ran much more smoothly and the kids ate very well. Don't take my post as a flame on the organization at all. What I state is fact, I was there. Do I care that they still owe me money? No. They need it more than I do.
  15. I just hope your kids don't snore like you do!
  16. So, I've been reading this thread since it began, and I'd like to say, that I have been in constant contact with the new board for Kiwanis Kavaliers. If you don't know who I am, My name is Tony Del Rivero, Executive Director for Paradox Percussion Theatre (PDX). The ideas that the new board members have for this organization is enough to make anyone excited. I for one am excited to have such a prestigious organization as one of our affiliates. The new board consists of many KK alum, as well as members that want nothing but success for the drum corps. No corps should EVER end up going inactive because of lack of membership. (And yes, lack of membership ends up leading to lack of money....thus....financial trouble). The move to Miami, FL. wasn't an easy decision. Will I say that it was the right one? Only Time will tell. There is a disgusting amount of young musicians in South Florida that are looking for just this type of opportunity to perform, grow as a person, and have their product connect with thousands of people throughout the country, without the funds to travel every month to a camp out of state or 5+ hours away. Not to mention how dangerous it can be for members to carpool to camps. Last February PDX and KK were affiliated in a way both of us didn't want to be. Both organizations lost a member in a horrific car accident. Not a day goes by, that I don't think about it, and the call I received that night. What do you all think a 16 year old High School kid would think about an organization if all he/she hears or reads all the time is negative comments about it? Here's your answer: (straight from one of my HS drumline students' IM) These forums have done much good for the activity, but unfortunately they have done their fair share of harm to it also. Font is a member of PDX, and was a member of KK up until they went inactive. I sat about what, 6 seats away from him at the 2005 Orlando DCI show. I remember telling him to audition for the corps, but he was reluctant to, JUST BECAUSE of what he heard. He showed up to the camps anyway and fell in love with the organization. He found his "Home". So don't jump on his back because he's doing his part as a member (even though he never wore the uniform) to help recruit for HIS corps. (I just hope he's recruiting for ours too hahaha) So Alum, and Drum Corps fans, do YOUR part. Many people complain about how drumcorps is dead, do your part and respect these organizations that are working so hard to provide all of you alum and vets with the product you wish you could be a part of one more time.
  17. Yes.. January 16th 7 members were in a similar serious accident. 2 members had been ejected and one member is out for the season because of a neck injury he suffered when he was ejected. Shouldn't be wierd saying paradox instead of sfpc. 2 different organizations. SFPC is still around, just went inactive doing fundraisers and such.
  18. Friday night, February 24th, 5 members of the Paradox Percussion Theatre (a WGI independant Open drumline from Miami-dade, FL) and Kiwanis Kavaliers were involved in a major accident on their way to the Kiwanis Camp. They were roughly 5 minutes away from the camp site when they lost control of the SUV they were riding in, causing it to flip a couple of times. One of our members, Yansel Orta, 18, was ejected from the vehicle. Unfortunately, he did not make it. The rest of the members were unharmed, and at home resting. Yansel Orta 7/31/87 - 2/24/06 We lost someone with a huge heart and a tremendous love for the activity and the 2 organizations in which he was in. As I type with tears in my eyes, I cannot begin to stress how important it is for everyone to drive safely and wear their seat belts. Please keep Yansel and the rest of the members in your thoughts and prayers. This has been a devastating blow to family, friends, and his 2nd family at PDX. The Paradox Percussion Theatre, has set up a memorial page for those who would like to pay their respects. www.pdxpercussion.net We ask that everyone PLEASE drive safely and always wear your seat belts. Yansel was not wearing his, but maybe some good came come from this tragedy. Nobody is "too cool" to wear their seatbelts. Thank you
  19. Paradox Percussion Theatre indoor percussion ensemble from Miami-Dade County, FL. Sponsored by the South Florida Youth Alliance (SFYA), Paradox Percussion Theatre will enter local and national competition in the winter of 2005-2006. We will be competing in the local circuit, South Florida Winter Guard Association (SFWGA), and the national circuit, Winter Guard International (WGI). The Directors are currently working on building the perfect instructional staff as well as hard at work finishing the show design. So far we have obtained staff members that have either marched or taught in such corps as : Madison Scouts, Boston Crusaders, Magic of Orlando, Kiwanis Kavaliers, The Crossmen, Bluedevils, and Carolina Crown.
