  1. It would certainly be great if it would happen. Although I think there is a big issue with money needs. I have a friend on the current Blast Tour and the company that has sent them out is in financial trouble... They are scraping by to get this tour to continue to go... I even saw the show, it has changed, some pieces are missing and the set has become much smaller. It may help promote by putting out a drum corps, but who knows what could happen in the future.
  2. Here are the top three things that I think keep some band teachers from allowing their students to do drum corps: 1. Band Director Ego. The Band Director wants to be the only source of music education for everyone in the school, and perhaps the town too. Don't come onto his turf. Especially if you can do it better than he can. (there are varying degrees of this, of course not every band director has it). 2. Rotten attitudes from drum corps kids coming to band. Now this is an unfortunate fact. Some kids come back to band in the fall after having marched drum corps and they act like they're all that and know EVERYTHING and want to tell everyone how to do everything. That is bad for the chemistry of the band, no matter how bad the band is. Drum corps members really need to take a chill pill when the come back to band and not be G-d's gift to marching, and not expect the same level of commitment and drive and excellence that they had in drum corps. Band directors don't like attitudes like that, and I can't blame them. 3. Conflicts with summer band rehearsals. As has been mentioned before, lots of competitive HS bands have rehearsals in the summer, like a couple times a week, and then band camp before DCI Finals is over. Being in drum corps would definately keep a student from making all those rehearsals. I agree with those who say that anyone being in DCI will come back to band stronger and a quicker learner than everyone else and could catch up really easily. It's not like missing band camp due to going to France for 2 weeks. Band directors need to understand this, and then come up with a policy that is fair to everyone (non drum corps people too). I can agree with the above list. It happened to me and specifically #2 - sometimes when you come back and are put into a bad position, you do come off with that "attitude" because you haven't learned the difference. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way and didn't make people happy. Since I had missed band camp I was automatically made an alternate... it was interesting to say the least and when I got the chance to overtake a position, I learned the show in about 3 full runs. I actually paved the way to start the drum corps madness at my school... More people followed the drum corps route after I graduated. Good times... I seemed to have open the gates for drum corps at my high school with some fellow drum corps alumni helping push the idea into the directors head.
  3. Regiment lets your bring your own horn. Actually they encourage it because there aren't enough corps horns to go around and they understand the comfort level of being able to play on your own horn. Even though I was a trumpet player, I would still bring my own horn for the audition portion. Throughout the weekend you will probably either be playing with your trombone or switching off with someone else to play a bari/euph during arc time. Good luck! B)
  4. Lets see, warmup sites are always fun depending where you end up. One show I know we were in this side lot, rather small, inbetween two houses. Some of us were even under a low tree so that was interesting and we still didn't have enough room to form an adequate arc. There was another place along the way to a parking lot that we saw this really sketchy run down shed/shack. It was really shady and we could only imagine what may have been in it. In 2006 for our first dress rehearsal after a nice rain we performed under a rainbow. I know theres even a picture floating around somewhere of it too! B)
  5. If for some reason they said screensaver, I don't think I would ever leave my computer if drum corps shows all the sudden popped on. B)
  6. I had experiences coming from summers of drum corps going back into high school band and starting off in college band. My worst experience, however was going back into high school band for the mear factor of since I had missed their band camp I was automatically made an alternate. Slowly but surely they let me take over a spot, but it wasn't right off and our drum guys almost pulled me into the drum line. That would of been cool, but didn't happen. After being able to do 2 to 3 full runs...because they would only run chunks... I was able to take the spot for competition purposes. Interesting to say the least and not exciting times. Also learned lots from it.
  7. Any new scores? My time is so off since I am stuck in ET time when I am still used to being on CT time... Are we getting close to the final scores do to Western time?
  8. However quarterfinals play out for the evening, then thats how the new order will be determined for semifinals.
  9. The interesting thing on the "Photo Day" of the invidivual shots is the fact that some of the members are still wearing the last seasons gauntlets and baldric, and most of them wearing it are the vets. Only one or two of the vets that I know took pics with the new baldric and gauntlets. It is cool that they had the option to choose! How often would you really be able to get a good shot up close like that during the season. B)
  10. too many pages to try and count, because they also get changed so often...
  11. Box 1, Box 2, Box 3, Box 4, Box 5, intervals, spacing, mark time, jazz running, food truck, equipment truck, uniform, shoes, gloves, shako, aussie, you could add all musical terms if you wanted to because they apply... a famous one of "throwing babies" hope this helps a little...
  12. 1 Blue Devils - 87.675 2 The Cadets - 87.575 3 The Cavaliers - 87.550 4 Phantom Regiment - 86.325 5 Bluecoats - 84.750 6 Santa Clara Vanguard - 84.700 7 Carolina Crown - 83.350 8 Blue Knights - 78.975 Easier to read... B)
  13. The uniforms are incomplete because as the season progresses more additional things/uniforms get added. Regiment hasn't come out of the blocks with a completed package near the very beginning of the season. If you look at last year, by each regional additional costume changes were added to the guard such as masks and even drill changes for the rest of the corps. Plus they don't give everything away right away. ^0^
  14. Have you guys experienced when people break ranks on a parade route? Which I feel is even worse while your marching down the street and some idiot decides they really want to walk through. I know from past experience we would certainly try to stop them or just blow out our spacing intervals to take up all of the space on the road. Always fun being on the end and people on the curbs have to get out of the way because your coming through. B)
