  1. Not good. Both Mr. Iktor and Mr Oldbones have valid points.
  2. It might be if DCI wasn't responsible for Championship housing. BUT IT IS. Jeff Cox does a great job and I am sure he will continue to do so. I believe the corps already decided it is worth it. Mr. Marshall. aren't you a director of one of the corps?
  3. ...and the crotchety old coots who hare everything that wasnt on the field when the 65 Royalaires performed in McCormick Place Get over yourself, your good old days are no better than the ones the kids are experiencing right now
  4. it's called being the first year on tour and not a full dci member status corps As for the scores - the show is too simple and full of cheese.
  5. Seems like Lancerlady lives for contentiousness.....wrapped in thinly veiled innocence I agree with Mr Turner. Ask any staff member if they'd rather be performing in shows in July or in rehearsal. The answer would be 100% in favor of a road tested corps vs one that sits and rehearses day in & day out. To think it an advantage would be to show a complete lack of understanding of what it takes to produce a championship level drum corps.
  6. You can bet the house on the guaranteed winner.....Surf
  7. Stop whining like a baby. There are shows in New London, Ct this Saturday and Wildwood, NJ next Saturday. Any history associated with those locations?
  8. Either way you slice it Crown is in the pack with the other 6 corps. Good for them.
  9. A good program coordinator can anticipate such issues. example: Howard Weinstein did in 99 & brought in Kevin Ford in the late Spring- voila! Boston makes top 12 for first time. What experience did a guy from Cap Sound have putting together and overseeing high level Div 1 shows? Then again, what experience did A Joainis have in writing a high level Div 1 drum corps show? So now the members spend the Summer having 100+ pages shoved down their throats instead of perfecting the show they learned all Spring. Not fair to the kids who joined the Madison Scouts.
  10. 1997 1 Mandarins - DIII 2. ECJ DIII 3. Spartans DII 4. Patriots DIII
  11. Shame on the program coordinator for letting this happen in the first place. After weeks of move-in SOMEONE should have realized the drill was a disaster. Chest thumping over "demading drill for 17 year olds" is misguided. Given the talent level the corps had to work with a smart drill would serve better than a difficlut one. Fans should be demanding the head of the program coordinator & original visual designer. Their work has put the membership in a bad position. I am sure they are eating well and getting down the road OK. What they are not doing is enjoying the material they have to perform. I've read posts that alluded to the fact the members are sleeping less than desired but are working hard. Not what I would call a good experience. Once again adults making a mess of the kids situation.
  12. ....and the show sponsors who made arrangements for the Scouts? The people who have purchased tickets based on the promise the Scouts would be at the show? Should they be penalized because the corps could not put together a program?
  13. 1. Cadets 2. Blue Devils 3. Phantom 4. Blue Coats 5. Crown 6. Cavaliers 7. SCV 8. Boston 9. Blue Knights 10. Glassmen 11. Blue Stars 12. Colts
  14. I don't think anyone has ever succesfully criticized the Spartans visual design formula. Coupled with a very clean guard, they have consistently been in the to 2 in visual since 2003. The only group that can hang with Nashua this year is Surf, believe it or not. I read where Fred Marier wrote the guard book and the ECJ guys are writing/teaching visual. No way Teal catches up, especially visually.
  15. Did James kick your ### in individuals or something?
  16. It is considerably easier to play when standing still the last 3 minutes of the show. Period.
  17. So when they are now taking time to teach the last 30% of their sow Spartans & Surf are cleaning their entire show. Is that their plan? Working hard, sure. Working as smart, nope. Spartans are masters of being complete and readable out of the gate and then refining the nuances from there.
  18. It was for Division 2. Lots to be learned from the results Spartans are the Spartans are the Spartans. Good guard, well designed drill. Not so much musical intrigue and another original Key Poulan program. Surf is for real. Looks like they have moved into the role East Coast Jazz played as Spartans chief competition. As ECJ passed Spartans the last 2 years down the stretch, let's see if Surf has the wherewithall to do the same. Best Surf guard in years, if not ever. Percussion was too loud. Teal Sound was incomplete! How does a corps who is on the road over 2 weeks not be done? School gets out a lot earlier down South and the NE Corps were done. First 3 minutes were pretty good - things went downhill from there. Raiders march better than they play. Corps is struggling with intonation issues in brass. Percussion is solid. Guard incomplete. Add in the 2 west coast corps (probably BDB in 3rd & SCV neck & neck with Teal) and you have an early season glimpse of where everyone stands.
  19. Based on ?????? The staff's experience in positioning a corps for the top 12 in the last 10 years? The quality of the design? Best bets for the 10-12 range are Colts, Glassmen, Spirit, Academy, Crossmen & Bue Stars Madison (alumni) Scouts are more likely to finish in the pack with Mandarins & Troopers (yes Troopers) for 16-18 Is there anyone on the Scouts staff who has recently "been there & done that" at the repsonsibility level they are curently at? I do not mean former BD techs who now have design & caption titles or show desgners who last wrote 20 years ago. Brian Soules may be the most accomplished and he ran Bluecoast vis program when they were borderline top 12 some 6-7 years ago. There is no shame in an organization re-grouping for whatever reasons. Unfortunately their fan base doesn't always maintain realistic expectations. quote name='walshinsurance' date='Jun 29 2007, 11:08 PM' post='1898401'] They will fly by 70 by or before the 4th of July....then will eventually pass up Blue Star...and by finals, squeek their way into the top 15
