  2. Presenting their 2012 program "Magnets! How do they work?!" Drum Corps International is proud to present.... The Velvet Knights! Musical selections to include "She Blinded me With Science" by Thomas Dolby, "Mr. Roboto" by Styx, and "Never Gonna Give You Up" by Rick Astley.
  3. Saw this on The Cavaliers Facebook Page. "Top 5 cities represented by the Cavalier Nation on our Facebook Fan Page: 1. Atlanta, Georgia 2. Jakarta, Indonesia 3. Kuala Lumpur, Maylasia 4. Dallas, Texas 5. Houston, Texas" That a big surprise to anyone else? I wonder if the International part of DCI is larger then we thought. I mean, to beat out every US city as far as fan numbers but Atlanta?
  4. From Websters. So tech Crown and BC and even SCV and Phantom are not dark horses at all.
  5. Well then you're obviously not that someone, now are you? Your movies have an intermission?! When was the last time you went to the movies? To see Casablanca?
  6. When you go to the movies, are you still impressed? Sure there are a lot of ok and even some bad stuff out there, but you still have those "D*** that was a good film" moments. And have story concepts really changed at all? Buddy comedy, boy meets girl, action/adventure, etc. But they find a way to repackage it and make us go "wow." Same thing with DC. ***edit*** I'm betting someone will say they're not impressed with the movies anymore. They're bored, over priced, blah blah blah. Same as DC, right?
  7. This is why we need a new ornaments in brass album.
  8. I thought that since you were an expert, you wouldn't take the ignorant "fewer notes = not hard" approach. You obviously have no idea how complex, tonally, some of that music is. And the demands of maintaining proper balance on a long tone while running has its own merrits along side playing runs.
  9. There are 2. The Cavaliers 2002 "Frameworks". This corps started a movement of "concert ensemble" quality on the field. Back then it wasn't too loud, but just listen to The Cavaliers or Crown at the end of the decade. This show was the definitive "concept" show. This show changed the style of drill we now see on the field. This show changed a lot of things. The Cadets 2005 "The Zone." Showed that electronics and vocals and over the top production could win and win big. A few corps used electronics in the season before, but after 2005 there was an explosion. These two corps, both scoring a record high 99.15, defined the decade from 2 very different positions. But isn't that what this decade has been about? Acoustic vs. "Progressive"?
  10. I don't care. Why? I live in DFW. I'll be at the show on the 18th! Never could've said that before. lol
  11. You in it for teh lulz? I say he's not trolling. I only recognize successful trolling. His question (and profile) are just blatantly inflammatory. IMHO, not trolling.
  12. The heart of the discussion (not what the OP may have actually meant, but what some people are taking it as) would be that, sorry gaiz, marching band and drum corps, at their basic root, are no different. I know, you disagree. I don't care. Show a picture of Drum Corps to 91% of the US population and ask them what it is and they'll say, "marching band." I bet that percentage goes up with a simple uniform.
  13. My haste and auto spell check get the best of me again...who'd a thunk it wouldn't recognize "improv".
  14. Your sig says "Making lurking an artform since 2002!" yet you have 4,470 posts on DCP alone. Yet more proof that, like troll, DCP has no clue the real definitions of interweb terms.
  15. This is not trolling. The OP brings up an honest question. To the OP: I think that DC has moved past the need for such a simplified view. A drum corps that doesn't balance and blend in today's competition is left in the dust and folds. It would have been more useful back in the day when corps had a tendency to push volume over quality. This often lead to obnoxious sounds sticking out of the texture. As far as discipline goes, Drum line was about as difficult as floor time...so I'm not sure how disciplined things would have to be. If a DC snare had decided to step out of the form and improv he'd be on a plane home the next hour. So drum corps...not at all. Edit: Fix'D
