  1. From the Nintendo Website: While we are grateful for all the requests for permission to use Nintendo properties, we are not able to grant such requests. We receive thousands of requests and we do not have adequate staffing to review them all. Therefore, our general policy is to decline requests for permission for the use of Nintendo properties. Although we are not able to grant permission, use of Nintendo's properties without formal permission by Nintendo may still be allowed under the relevant laws of the particular jurisdiction involved. Thus, we encourage you to seek your own legal counsel if you have any questions about whether your particular proposed use is permitted without Nintendo's authorization. Nintendo cannot provide legal advice. Maybe the 2nd paragraph is how they're getting around it. Not sure...
  2. Most, if not all, music from the Super Mario Games are on the "do not arrange" list. I'm sure many have tried to use it but were denied, unfortunately.
  3. nope. in fact, they are the easiest company to get rights from in my experience. the only music that is "hard" is from the IMAX movie "The Journey of Man." This copyright is held by Sony/Hal Leonard. And that's a whole nother topic....
  4. Don't forget the Clocks rip-off... and that Kill Bill rip-off, too (the song that plays when Oren and her crew enter that Asian restaurant)...
  5. Ah, touche'. it was the second post that said the Phantom. my mistake!
  6. I don't think you understood what the OP meant by "Phantom."
  7. Sousaphones Get Their Due!!!
  8. Interesting that two people have called that ballad evil. I don't get that feeling whatsoever. But que sera, que sera. What I meant was that both ballads are pieces with grooves behind them and sort of a "chorale" feel. Obviously they're used in different ways.
  9. Their ballad reminds me of the Bjork song "New World" that The Cadets used for their ballad in 2005. Not exactly the same thing, but the same feel with a groove and lots of drum notes.
  10. Joanis writes the drill for the Marcus Drumline's PASIC shows. He doesn't write the band drill for Marcus. I believe that was the head director, Amanda Drinkwater.
  11. Nope, that is incorrect. Joanis was the percussion teacher at Ronald Reagan HS for one year, 2003-2004. Kevin Nix and/or Mark Chambers have written drill for RR since it's opening in 1999 through this past year, 2006.
  12. Didn't SCV do something like this last year?
  13. In meta 2, there are some Reagan 2005 influences, as it's the same source material. For a blatant Reagan rip, Meta 4 has a straight lift from "Transitions," Reagan's 2006 show.
  14. I believe the sticking is: -RLR -RRL -RLR -RLR
  15. hmm... what are your marimba numbers? Maybe you could redistribute the vibe parts to another marimba? Maybe give the xylo part to the vibe and the vibe parts to two xylos?
  16. I wrote a 16th note timing exercise for the front-ensemble last year. I think it's pretty groovy, and I want to get it out there for other students and teachers to enjoy. Here is the link to download the mp3, score, and parts: SWEET TEA Briefly, it's based off of Imogen Heap's "The Moment I Said It." If you're interested in the full "back story" and seeing/hearing videos of live performances, read the post on my blog: Sweet Tea BLOG If you do decide to download it, let me know! Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy it!!
  17. It was all good last year (2006). According to "the list," it was added effective 2007.
  18. Check to make sure it is in fact, ok to double major in Education and Composition. If not, maybe you can get the education degree, and have compositions lessons at the same time. Having said that: USC Univ of Texas Univ of Michigan Juilliard
  19. Eric Carraway holds a Bachelors degree in Music Education from Kent State University (Ohio) and a Masters degree in Percussion Performance from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to moving to central Texas, Mr. Carraway worked for several Ohio band programs as a percussion instructor and private lesson teacher. In 2003 Mr. Carraway moved to Austin to accept a graduate assistantship in percussion at the University of Texas. While working on his Masters degree, Mr. Carraway taught the steel drum band as well as private lessons to undergraduate percussion majors. Additionally, Mr. Carraway taught as a percussion instructor for Pflugerville and Hendrickson High Schools and as a private lesson teacher for Cedar Park and Leander High Schools. After graduating from the University of Texas in 2005, Mr. Carraway accepted the position of Assistant Band Director and Percussion Director for the Akins High School Band. For six years Mr. Carraway was a front ensemble member of notable drum corps including the Marion Cadets (1998), Glassmen (1999-2001), and world-champion Cavaliers (2002-2003). He is the 2003 Drum Corps Midwest Keyboard Champion and placed second at the 2003 DCI Individual and Ensemble Competition. Additionally, Mr. Carraway was a three-year member of the WGI Independent group Matrix Indoor Marching Percussion Ensemble.
  20. Just to clarify a bit: Ronald Reagan HS was opened in 1999, under the direction of Mark Chambers and Aaron Guidry. In 2000, they added Mark Koehl and Kevin Nix. In 2001, Craig Turner took over percussion duties. It was this time that Carol Chambers became orchestrating the music. In 2002, Aaron came back to Reagan as percussion director, and began as Reagan's arranger. In 2003, Alan Joanis took over percussion for Reagan. In 2004, Roland Chavez took over percussion duties. In 2005, Tammy Fedynich joined the staff. Basically, the staff that is going over to Crossmen, is the staff that built Reagan from the start. Aaron Guidry and Carol Chambers have continued to work on music since 2001. And lastly, though bands do recieve money from the districts, most successful band programs receive the majority of their funding from their booster organizations. Which make their money through fair share (tour fees in DCI), funraising, and business/corporate donations (I think DCI does a bit of this too, huh?).
