Arrangement rights aren't the issue. Those are easy to get and are fair priced. It's the mechanical (recording) rights that are expensive. The Beatles, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, among others, charge in the thousands for those rights.

I suppose... but the Newman is a little TOO CLOSE to be called original. Walking on thin ice, methinks.
-
You can also hear Thomas Newman's "That Next Place, from Meet Joe Black" as the ballad. He is also on the do not arrange list. And I actually hear "Colors of the Wind, from Pocahontas" at the beginning! :-) Probably a show with music "Original based on..."

I always thought it was "On the Dominant Divide," because of it's heavy emphasis on the tonic and dominant? -

Not really. Yoko still controls his music. She takes a LONG time to approve. And more often than not, denies use. Just ask Jenison HS in 2007. -

RR never did a Planets show. But I think Spring HS and/or Lousiville Male did. -
I believe it is Andy Ebert.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with the OP (haven't seen/heard it yet), but maybe some people actually listened to their parents: "If you don't have anything nice to say..." -

Was the "O Magnum Mysterium" the one by Lauridsen? That piece is on the do not arrange list. How'd they get around that? I want to know so I can arrange it!! :-) -

Have you tried all the big dealers? RBS, Shattinger, Boosey, Pepper, etc.? I know that's how I get all my scores to arrange. Or are you looking for a FREE online score? Cuz if so.... -

You made the point I was thinking about. Lots of Texas band kids are good enough to make top 5 corps. So if they have the money, they'd rather spend the money to make finals then to spend it and not. I remember pushing someone to audition for Cavaliers over another corps because I felt he was better than the alternative. He ended up making it and won 2 rings. -
The bands and kids are strong. They just go to the top 6-12 corps first... and usually make it.
