  1. It's not rude. He just doesn't think Madison is Top 6 material. Neither do I. It's not the end of the world.
  2. It would be nice if we could have a "discussion forum" for drum corps. That'll be the day... ( ...kinda)
  3. So, I finally got to watch this show on one o' them fancy movin' picture Internet websites...my thoughts are as follows: I'll start with what I don't like about it. Like some people have said, there are times where it feels like the show is moving along at kind of a sluggish pace, and I felt that at certain points throughout...and that about covers it for what I didn't like. Not even that big of a deal. As for what I do like, well...where to start? I spend almost every day completely immersing myself in classical music, and so this show is right up my alley! It certainly helps that Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, and Prokofiev are among my all-time favorite composers. I particularly enjoyed the arrangement of Mozart's "Dies Irae." "Elsa's" sounds like it's changed since the last time I heard it (another one of those moving-picture thingies from back in May), and I think it's changed for the better - it feels less awkward now. Anyway, I feel like if I said any more about the show, I'd just be getting redundant. All-in-all, I love the show this year. You've made this classical music nerd very happy, and I can't wait to see how you guys finish out the season.
  4. If you're looking for good places to eat, I'd recommend Max Lager's. I've been there a few times and I love it. It's probably about a 15-minute walk from where you're staying, but it's closer to the World of Coke (so, closer to a 10-minute walk). It's a little pricey, but most places downtown aren't cheap, anyway. It's a good thing you'd be walking there, too, because the parking situation for that place (just like most of downtown) is less than ideal.
  5. I never had any issues with the videos last year (I mean, there were some issues, but I just didn't care). The only reason I'm not a subscriber right now is because I need to save money.
  6. *sigh* This topic was going so well...everybody sharing stories of all their loud hornline experiences. It was all really fun to read...until Mr. Scrooge here walked right on in. Can you kindly take your complaining about electronics to a thread that's actually about electronics? Thanks. Also, just to be on topic - one of my all-time favorite "loud" moments comes from SCV '89. No, it's not the company front. It's actually about five minutes into the show. I can't remember the song names, but it was a moment where, after a couple bars of decrescendo, the hornline comes out of nowhere with these four incredibly loud notes, and it's just them - no percussion. I probably didn't describe that well at all, but hopefully somebody will know what I'm talking about.
  7. It's not even limited to just drum corps. Almost any marching band competition/high school band festival or whatever, there's always that group of people (usually band parents) that only show even the slightest hint of emotion when their baby boy/girl is out there. It's such a shame. Speaking of which, I feel bad for all the people who are missing out on SCV's show. IMO, it's not a show worth missing.
  8. Johnny Carson. Look him up. (...I mean, come on man - I was 3 years old when he retired and I still know who he is! )
  9. This is my favorite post that's ever been made on DCP. Bravo.
  10. Why not go for your dream corps the first year? Work your ### off and show them how bad you want to be there. Don't give them a reason to cut you.
  11. I know many, MANY people who disagree with you, myself included. It is what it is.

  13. Completely agree...and to think, I was actually expecting something original when I clicked on the topic link...
  14. Never thought I'd see anybody cheering for the judges!
  15. I've watched the show a few times in a place that may or may not be on the internet, and while it's clear that Crown has a very talented corps this year, I just feel like the show isn't all that exciting. I don't know if it's the cheese-factor or the arrangements (more on that in a minute), but there's just something keeping this show from connecting with me in the same way that their past shows have. In regards to the arrangements, I will say that I do really like the "Eruption" section. The ballad is nice, too. However, the closer feels like it's just technical for the sake of being technical...though, I suppose when you have a talent pool like they do, why not show off a little? I mean, yes, a lot of this is just personal taste and I'm sure many people will disagree, but I just feel like Crown needs to do something different with the design so that the potential for exciting moments that I know is there will really be able to shine...but it's probably too late for anything like that to change. I've been a big fan of Crown's shows since '07 (I liked '05, too), but this one just kinda falls flat for me. Now, where's my flame retardant suit?
  16. Back in 2007, somebody made a thread complaining about things he overheard some members of Spirit saying at a show. It blew up into this huge thing, but the one thing that almost everybody was saying was this: "Why did you post it here when you could just contact the corps without making a HUGE deal out of it?" Please just go do that. There is absolutely no need for stuff like this to be public.
  17. Glad to see I'm not the only one on here who watches South Park!
