  1. You guys keep arguing... I'm staying... I'm finishing my coffee
  2. I think I'm gonna flip flop my position. Phantom's OBVIOUSLY going to win because 1996 and 2008 are both even numbers divisible by 4. And the number 4 is the placement they were JUST LAST WEEK. And the number 4 is what the FIRST PLACE CORPS from M.Boro was in music while still winning by a significant amount. And the number 4 the also the number of times that Phantom HAVE NOT beaten the Cavaliers or Blue Devils this year. Science > Show design and execution
  3. What's this about a sword? Does it have 13 blades and Spartacus' name on it? Or am I missing something?
  4. Really...? I mean... Are we REALLY having this conversation again? Phantom hasn't gotten higher than 3rd against full competition this year, but of course it seems to DCP that they're going to be the favorites going into Indy. And are Phantom fans really naive enough to forget that just a few days ago, they were behind Crown? I'm pretty sure that Carolina Crown is all kinds of fired up now, and Phantom should look in their rearview. Another thing... Are we HONESTLY having conversations about Phantom winning when the Blue Devils are getting 4th in overall music, and still beating them by nearly a point and a half. I'm sorry though, I guess I can't understand logic with all the honking in my ears
  5. Why should it be the fault of Bd, Cadets, or the Cavs if nobody else puts the type of excellence they put on the field. Every corps has the same chance as another to win, shame on those 3 for working their butts off to perform at another level.
  6. Why is it that ANY year the Cavaliers, Phantom, or Vanguard are the front runner, everybody is frolicking around this forum like it's Christmas morning... But when all of a sudden, we get 2 years in a row where the Blue Devils are really good, everybody feels the need to show their fangs. The Blue Devils put a stunning show on the field last year, and have gone even further this year, and all that seems to happen is people get hot and bothered about it. They do nothing but put quality shows on the field every year, and with the exception of 1 year, they do so without feeling the need to chatter throughout the whole thing like 90% of this forum detests so much. But it seems the Devils never get any respect let alone love from more than just a small handful of people. So, I'm sorry that they don't wear green and do summersaults on the field I'm sorry that they don't jazz run for 75% of their show and play lots of classical music And I'm really sorry they don't write a spot into the show where the crowd screams "BLUE DEVILS" But I'm not sorry that they're put an amazing show on the field this year, and people can't be ok with it.
  7. No. Not because I don't love their show, because I do. But because another corps has 13 VERY good reasons to not be taken lightly in August.
  8. I'm gonna just come out and say that if Phantom would figure out that they don't need to march 4-5's for their entire show, they'd have scored at least an entire point higher tonight...
  9. OH NOES!!! IT'S TIME FOR THE GREEN TO PANIC!!!!! No it's not, it's just time for the Cavs to bite this year's impending bullet and start next year by thinking about making their shows musically interesting and entertaining. Methinks they can sacrifice a tiny bit of their visual excellence to field better music. Oh yeah, btw... The "impending bullet" is BLUE
  10. I noticed the change too. I guess it's cool that they can blast the other side of the field and share the love.
  11. Don't really know for sure, I doubt they are putting it into shows yet, my sister (in the guard) said it's essentially a massive overhaul which it seems they needed badly. I'll post more when I know it, apparently in response to the huge changes, the staff also enforced a more strict cellphone policy among members, so my inside source is cut off
  12. /Agree. 2 horse race. And I'm sorry, I'd like to be cheery and optimistic for the other guys too, but to think that Crown, Coats, or Phantom will pass the Cavs this year is foolish wishful thinking. While I would rather have a dental procedure than partake in the Cavaliers nap time, otherwise known as Samurai, there has to be something said for excellence, and the Cavs still have it in spades over PR, CC, and BC. For the record, I think visually Samurai is great, but I agree with other people who are tired of the Cavaliers rolling around on the ground for the 2nd time in 4 years.
  13. I move to have this thread closed, and furthermore... I recommend that any post, positive or negative, about alcohol, be linked to this post and forgotten. Thank you Seanedwin, you're a saint
  14. Well it looks like Phantom learned an important lesson tonight. If you're gonna shoot a bear, you need to kill it... Great job Devils, only 13 points away
  15. I guess I'll give my review too since it seems not many people have yet. I honestly only saw OC, BD, and PR. I missed Spokane and VK because I was watching OC's drumline. OC - Trying to be more positive because their center snare is a close friend of mine, but It didn't really grab me. I thought their line and guard were improved from last year, but they're still without 4-5 minutes of music on the field, so not too much to review honestly... BD - Hard not to be biased because it's by far my favorite show of the year, but It was outstanding. This is the first time in a while that BD has the type of show you need to see multiple times to fully appreciate as It's simply visual overload. So many cool things happening on the field, and the concept is great without bashing you over the head with it Cadets style. However, as agreed to be my friend in the mello line, the devils were a bit sloppy tonight. Visually and musically, their show is still performing them in certain areas, which in turn makes me excited because It shows how high the show's ceiling is. PR - I wanted so badly to enjoy the show, I really did. The hornline sounds great even while being a tad bright at times, and the drums are smoking as well as the drill... But by the end of the show, I felt underwhelmed and almost cheated. I love me some Phantom, but a choice they make in the end of their show killed the entire thing for me. The corps plays and marches with more energy than i've seen from them in a long time, and throughout the show, build a fantastic amount of power and intensity... And then, with some hokey pit writing and 3 simple words...the ship sinks. I understand wanting to relate to the movie, but the whole "I Am Spartacus" section at the end kills the energy and momentum of the show more brutally than the 3 killings in the show itself. If the corps is able to nix that section and finish the way they start, I think they could have a great year. Overall, a good night, and I can't wait to go to Denver this weekend!
  16. LOL!!! I'm sorry, but BD's not even done with their show yet and parts of it are very dirty, and they're around 2 points up on Phantom every show. Besides, the 70's called, they want Phantom's hornline back.
  17. 2008 Only -This year's Blue Devils closer... The whole freakin thing. -Crown's closer when they layer Simple Gifts over the 1812 theme -Bluecoats "Boxer" section right before the singing
  18. I agree with your point, but I also don't think that this years Cavs show can compete for GE as easily as usual. Their show doesn't go anywhere musically and that's going to hurt them in GE imo.
  19. I finally downloaded the full BD APD and the ending put me into almost a trancelike state. I wont try to explain it
  20. Of course they're "good" but honestly I think this is one of their weaker shows of the decade so far. Obviously they're going to perform the show to a high standard because it's their nature, but although the visual program is outstanding, the music leaves TONS to be desired. I don't know what they can do to fix the musical problems and general repetition the show has, but with BD having what I believe to be a special seeming year, they may need to figure things out in a hurry. Hell, even Crown has the potential to shock people if they clean things up.
  21. I know It's very early, but I'm being quite serious about this... Am I the only one who's getting Frameworks/Zone Pt.1 vibes from this year's Blue Devils show? I remember how both of those shows felt during the season, and something in the pit of my stomach gets that feeling with BD this year. It seems like they're playing by themselves this year, and although we won't know until the weekend, it just feels right. Am I completely out of line for thinking about it? Of course some of you will think so, but other people have to agree to some extent.
