  1. It's december, did you go to the Cavi's audition camp? are you planning on going out to Santa Clara for their 18th to 20th camp? If not, then I suggest you take the 40 dollar shuttle from Denver airport to Troopers 18th to 20th camp in Laramie... because their show concept is awesome this year ("Wanted"). Of course, there are also many other options available to you still, both world and open class.
  2. SCV has a large amount of returning members this year, so it really doesn't matter how high they set the age bar. oh and this "never let anyone tell you that some corps isn't letting anyone under 18 in this year..." statement is silly. If you don't believe me go to http://www.scvanguard.org/2010/ and in the middle of the second paragraph it says "To be eligible to participate in the summer of 2010, World Class Vanguard corps members must have reached the age of 18 by June 1, 2010 OR should be completing their senior year of high school by the end of May or beginning of June. High school sophomore and junior students are welcome to attend the audition process..."
  3. SCV isn't allowing anybody under 18 or isn't a senior to be accepted into the corps this year, though I do believe you are allowed to audition for the experience (which you should, SCV auditions are in December 18-20). Because auditions are in December for SCV and you aren't able to make the line due to age, you should audition for Cavis during their November auditions. If you get called back, then don't go to SCV auditions. In the case that you don't get called back, go to the SCV auditions for the experience, and then either go on to march in the Cadet corps (which is an outstanding place to march, even if it is an open class corps) or try and get into a solid world class corps that is a cheap plane ticket, or short drive, away (e.g. Troopers, BK, Academy, Crossmen). Oh, and just to warn you SCV brass audition material has been posted, and you are going to want to start working on it, even with the fact that you are to young. I would also advice you to get comfortable with the idea that you may be spending your rookie year on euphonium, so you need to be working out daily right now.
  4. ...sounds like Motto Perpetuo with different songs...
  5. It is way to early for this, but why not: 1 Crown 2 Cadets 3 SCV 4 BD 5 Cavis 6 Blue Stars and PR 8 Bluecoats 9 Boston 10 Madison 11 Glassmen 12 Troopers 13 Blue Knights 14 Academy 15 Colts 16 Crossmen 17 Spirit 18 Mandarians 19 Pacific Crest 20 Jersey Surf 21 Teal Sound* 22 Pioneer 23 Cascades *depends obviously on whether or not they are world class next season
  6. i like it... a lot... hopefully they'll keep the same formula as last year...
  7. ...a good portions of last years shows were already designed for LOS...SCV, BD, Crown, Blue Stars, etc... And those corps will have an added advantages of knowing what did and didn't work. And what is wrong with designing your show for finals? A show can still be entertaining and performance worthy, even when it is designed for a stadium that has some reverb...a stadium that DCI is working to make more acoustic friendly.
  8. Raiders is a good up and coming open class corps... I'd audition for Cadets (based in Allentown, camps in NJ often) if I was in your feet...both are like 3 hours away from you, which is actually a lot better of then most people I know who march.
  9. Fan Network renders the statement wrong, nearly every college freshmen and high school seniors I know are huge Star fans. That being said not many of them are interested in Madison because they know that Star and Madison are two highly different corps, even with some of the Star staff at Madison. I often hear Star of Indiana referred to "caviar" because of their high level of musicality, while Madison is commonly referred to as "grilled chesse" (delicious and a fan favorite, but known for just playing loud and not really known for being modern musicians). Most people I know (if you haven't figured out I primarily hang out with Brass and Guard people) that are big Star of Indiana fans are leaning more towards Blue Stars (mid-west choice) Crown (East Coast friends) and SCV (West Coast). These corps have over the last few years proven that they play, march, and dance shows that are similar in design and quality to those done by Star. I am actually pretty certain I am the only person except for one of friends (a woman) that would want to march Scouts. As for the idea Cavis is going to lose people, that is also funny. Cavis are probably gonna have more drummers at auditions with Mac. The Cavis guard pull will continue being heavy because it is Cavis. As for hornline, I know a lot of outstanding marchers that have wanted to march Cavis, but haven't cause they thought the horn book is typically boring and soft. The new Cavis brass staff probably isn't going to be advocating this anymore, so if Cavis releases a show concept before auditions that has a good brass book potential, I could forsee an even bigger amount of people showing up for auditions. Sorry for the length, and I do not mean to insult the Scouts at all in my statements, in fact I slightly hope my statements will prove false cause I would love to see the Scouts back in the top 9.
  10. That is a good point, it does indicate not a significant change. Crown, SCV, BD, Cadets, Bluecoats, and Boston have yet to release any real staff declarations yet (not 100% sure, but fairly certain). However, I can guarantee that none of these corps are going to have problems getting talent in for auditions. IMHO the reason Madison has been releasing all this info on their new "dream" team is because they have something to actually be worried about one it comes to people not auditioning (no offense to Madison at all in that statement, I luv SCOUTS!). As for Blue Stars, with some of their staff heading over into the Scouts, they needed to release this information so that people wouldn't think Stars didn't have anyone to replace such individuals. It's also a good way to show that they aren't going to be fixed into 8th. The other corps making announcements on staff right now are Cavi's (thanks to recent direction changes to Cavi's legend Adolph), PR (Myron announcement shows stability in show concept, meaning future members don't have to worry about an 09 part dos) and Glassmen (Pete Weber= better drill). Looking at this, it appears the only corps that needs to announce staffs are those that have to prove something or explain the loss of their staff to another corps. It is very true that people make their decisions on were to audition ASAP, but the corps that haven't been making these announcements are usually one of the top sought after corps to audition for (Crown and BD could have their whole staffs take the season off and audition numbers would still be high).
  11. Your points are valid, i'd just like to clarify that it was BD and SCV that tied in 1999. PR tied with BD in 1996. and lets get back to the point here, Blue Stars have picked up a good set of staff this year and with there current membership they could be a contender with whoever it is that is in the 6th and 7th spots... not going to guess who that'll because it is ridiculously early to do so... we still have no idea about all the staffs, show concepts, and quality of membership that corps have. The only info we have is staff and DMs from corps that like sharing info, all the corps that are more conservative in their press releases haven't given us any info, which doesn't mean that they don't have good staffs lined up, only means they don't see the need to release that information till right before auditions.
  12. Oh wow, I didn't even realize how well Glassmen has done at consistently making finals. Has even out done the Madison Scouts. And as for all you Weber haters, it is true that in the past he has had trouble with staging...but he has since gotten over that problem, as seen with his drill from 2009.
  13. Weber's corps history in writing drill is: '02 Colts '05 Madison '06-'09 Santa Clara Vanguard '09 Vanguard Cadets Look forward to seeing his endeavors with Glassmen, though I hope he continues working with the Vanguard Organization.
  14. Im sorry, I was wrong. I didn't realize that those guys were going to be working else where, though it is notable that all those staff members could retain the same positions they held with SCV, sense those positions were largely conceptual/design orientated which allow for them to work with multiple corps.
