  1. I thought that was Dwayne Johnson? Anyway, sounds awesome, this might be something I'll have to check out.
  2. I typed this up in my own thread that died a horrible, silent death, but I'll repost it here. The title would be either Fantasy Fantasie, or something similar to Fantasy in Time. It would feature the music of Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy, and the overall style seems to fit Phantom in my mind, but any of you may have another idea as to that! The show would open with a short exerpt from The Prelude, and then move into the main opener, The Dream that Time Dreams from Chrono Cross. The bright and energetic opener would fade out with darker and more somber chords, leading up to the second movement, one out of One Winged Angel (Final Fantasy VII), Liberi Fatale (Final Fantasy VIII), or Dancing Mad (Final Fantasy VI). After a couple moments of silence from the massive finish of whichever of these three, To Zanarkand slowly builds into what I think would make a hauntingly beautiful ballad. Finally, after the last chords of To Zanarkand fade away, the corps finishes with Time's Scars (or the Scars of Time, depending on who you talk to) from Chrono Cross. All in all, I think that in the right hands this could make an amazing show.
  3. Well, the only thing he said was wrong was when people say that BD doesn't move much, which is, well, just wrong. Everything else, though, was opinion.
  4. I'm no engineer, but I do know that when it comes to agents of amplification, a small change in what initiates the sound makes a large change in the final projection. And 1" is a significant percentage of a drumstick, right? So maybe, when combined with the other reasoning, the amplification of that small change by the drum makes it a larger change? Just the ramblings of a brass player.
  5. I guess it's not really my argument, but I don't remember any naysaying, and he never stated anything as fact. Because he said it "worries" him, it shows that he actually wants to corps to do well, and he hopes that they don't get a big head. All just sounds like harmless pondering to me. But that's just my take, I'm bored and apparently taking up people's arguments for them because of it!
  6. Hey man, don't feel like you can't have an opinion or anything, I just thought that I'd give you some impressions to show you that the Devils aren't going to be falling out this year. I'm sure a lot of lines will be in the running. My bet is on the Devils, but then again, my bet's usually on the Devils.
  7. I believe he added a disclaimer saying that "if that is indeed true," making his entire post dependent on that modifier. He's acknowledging that it might not be true as it is word of mouth.
  8. I feel like this post got lost and our b_c friend missed it. Anywho, again, I'm not trying to pester, I just want to enlighten you on some of the impression of BD this year. I'm not sure where you're getting that, everyone I've heard talk about anything they've heard from the Devils have said that if anything, the drums are the standout unit in the corps at the moment. Here are some quotes from people who've heard the preseason recording: cmathis: Man... that percussion is NICE. Dominath: Yeah, Percussion is looking/sounding sexy. pags: The percussion is incredible from beginning to end. Based on this recording, I view this year's corps like the 1996 corps..i.e. the brass is good, but the percussion is going to be the strength. Every portion of the show that is good involved the percussion giving a driving beat to it. i_play_percussion: Although I'm not a big fan of their overall sound (too high), I'm really loving that music. The percussion... luvs me some mello!: Drum line is smoking.... Eddie: percussion is rocking, and I'm loving the chords coming out of the hornline. MJN: I watched the clip last night. I'm curious how those really shallow drums will project out on the field when there aren't mics and cameras so close. The drumline sounds pretty impressive. I hope it sounds as good when they are moving. BigSnareline: Oh, I have a feeling their drumline will be smoking the competetion again this year. Design Hound: I agree, BD's drum line definitely stands out as a major strength, as far as music goes. crfrey71: The crowd is just going to really eat up that percussion. No doubt! And that's all just from one thread. I haven't heard them myself since I don't have the fan network, but that sounds to me like the drumline is anything but lacking. And yeah, big old drummer man's two posts are two posts to put down BD, so I wouldn't pay much attention. He's entitled to his opinion, but like he admits, it's obviously biased.
  9. Hey, no worries there. I'm 20, have a job, and still can't afford the fan network. At least not if I actually want to make it to San Antonio this summer.
  10. I don't want you to feel like I'm picking on you for discounting the Devils, but I'm pretty sure history has shown that BD is at the top to stay. 37 years of being in the top 5, never placing out of the top 5 in brass since 76 (I could be wrong there, but I don't think I am), and coming off of a championship year where they took all musical captions? I don't see the fall.

  12. I know that the Cavaliers' website has a section where you can buy "section C, between the 45 yard lines" tickets, but if possible I'd like to get a bit more specific as to how high up in the stands I'd be. I can't seem to find a phone number to call for that. Also, same question for the San Antonio show, though I think you can call the Alamodome for that.
  13. 3 hours, 45 views, and no comments? :( I expected at least an "old" or something.
  14. So I'm positive that people here have posted about the incredible untapped source that is video game music, and undoubtedly Final Fantasy and other Squaresoft/SquareEnix RPGs have been mentioned as well. But, I thought I'd post my own that I came up with anyway, just for S's and G's. 15. Yeah, I don't know what was going on last night, but I checked again today, and now the best seats available are in the upper deck around the 35-40 yard line (3rd row). I tried several times last night and only got the endzone, but for some reason a lot more seats are open today.
  16. I went to San Antonio last year, and loved it. I probably would've gone again this year, but I didn't think I was going to be free all summer, so I didn't look into tickets until today, resulting in a big nada (only endzone seats left). So now this brings to question Murfreesboro. It's roughly 700 miles or 10 hours straight down I-40 from Oklahoma City, making this a three-day event (two for travel, one for rockin'). Gas would be expensive, obviously (going to estimate around $150-$175 round trip), and the hotel will probably cost $50-$100/night. The tickets I would want are $50 each. All in all, I'm looking at $350 minimum, plus food. I can't remember from last year, is Murfreesboro traditionally a huge regional like San Antonio with nearly all Div-1 corps (dci.org hasn't listed the particpants yet)? If so, it will be an improvement on the San Antonio show in that it'll be the same quality with better acoustics. Do you guys think it would be worth it to put all that into the trip, or would I be better off sticking local (Oklahoma/Texas) for small shows? Like I said, I loved the large regional style of San Antonio, but I'm just looking for some opinions, especially of those of you who've been. Also for those who've been, do you have some recommendations/suggestions for hotels or food? Oh yeah, and how does the seating work there? The ticket sales offer upper, lower, and club, but the seating chart only shows upper and lower decks. I can get 50 yardline upper, but I'm curious about the club. If anyone has anything outside of my questions to throw in, your comments are always more than welcome!
  17. Bobert, I think you would be doing a great service to everyone, including us fervent BD fans, to "educate" the non-believers with this video, :D
  18. Whole-heartedly disagree. 2 Championship shows (well, if one was sans talking...), and five 2nd-4th place shows. This was an absolutely fantastic year.
  19. I believe I remember Truman posting recaps of how Cavies are marching/playing at a reasonable clip for around 2:00 in their show, BD around 5:00, and Phantom a little more than that. I don't believe he did Cadets, but it would be interesting. It'd be more interesting to see him do Playing/Marching/Talking for Cadets. Cadets had the harder visual program in my opinion, but that does not make BD's easy by any stretch of the imagination. They just make it look that easy. Watching them in rehearsal clothes lets you see just how hard they're marching.
  20. Did you guys crash it trying to get the scores?
  21. Man, I want to see a recording of this performance! I haven't seen anything on Devs since Pittsburgh, which I saw live. If it got four pages of praise on DCP (astounding, considering the BD hate that thrives here), then it must be phenomenal.
  22. It's the show that score is from. They correspond to the list of shows directly beneath the list of corps. Go Devils! :( Scouts...
  23. Rush - YYZ (The Sop Solo would be mind blowing!) Rush - Red Barchetta Rush - La Villa Strangiato (could be an entire show on its own).
  24. Sadly, Vanguard has been rained out in the mid-western travels, and yesterday word-of-mouth has it that they didn't even get to march (and possibly the same for two days ago). I'm pulling for them to finish in the top 3 this year, but as for this show... Cavies Coats Vanguard The main reason I say Coats for question 2 is because I think they'll be closer to it (because of the rainouts), and I love seeing them progress through the ranks. I say Vanguard has the best show I've heard from the three, but I haven't heard Coats.
  25. 1. Who do you root for? Blue Devils first and foremost. Coats, Vanguard, Phantom, Cavies after them. 2. Why do you root for them? I feel that year in and out, the Devils have some of the best shows put on the field. I love their style of music, and the whole organization is just a class act, top eschelon all the way. I saw them at my first show ever and was completely wowed (my first time hearing a Double C!), and then saw them again at the 2004 finals to be blown away again. After that I started listening to the older shows and just fell in love. Coats put out a fun and entertaining show every year, and are an awesome "underdog" to root for when it comes to the top six. Vanguard has a great history, and is always high quality stuff. What's not to respect about top 12 of every DCI Finals? Phantom has so much heart they could probably donate some to the other corps and still have more than enough to move the crowd. And who can forget their euphs! Then the Cavies, they put on a spectacularly entertaining show, even if the music hasn't been memorable recently ('04 and '07 notwithstanding). They were my favorite corps after my first show, only to be unseated after I started really listening to the Devils. I also march with Kevin Shannon (one of their soloists) in the Pride of Oklahoma. 3. Have you ever been the victim of drum corps "elitism"? Nope, but I have been made fun of for having shirts for four different corps and never marching in any of them! 4. Have you any professional musical experience of another sort? Well, I've played for an Easter service (trumpet), and I've been hired for weddings, but due to extenuating circumstances have never actually played in one.
