  2. Was listening to Bluecoat's APD and the young man who says "Freeze" sounds like he is saying "Fweeze" like Elmer Fud. On the Cadet's APD, they seem to be breathing heavily into their mics...do they run off the field to talk into a mic on a stand? Also, it seems like there are basic annunciation problems throughout. Where is Samuel L. Jackson when you need him?
  3. I was wondering the same thing...however, at Coon Rapids...PR went last but Blue Stars did the encore. It would be nice to know in advance who is doing the encore's so one could plan. If you are a PR fan, fmm, or other... you really need to hear their encore this year.
  4. ves·per·tine(vspr-tn) also ves·per·ti·nal (vspr-tnl) adj. 1. Of, relating to, or occurring in the evening. 2. Botany Opening or blooming in the evening. 3. Zoology Becoming active in the evening, as bats and owls; crepuscular B)
  5. Ahhh, the smell of a cool evening and fresh mown hay! :D B)
  6. A victory for Pio colorguard being second tonight. They must be coming a long way since I saw them last. Keep up the good work!
  7. Imagine if you were a drum corps fan and went into acoma for about 3 years and came back to see the Blue Stars in Div. 1 and making a push for a finals spot, seeing Madison scratching their way into Semis, wondering who The Academy is, the Bluecoats in the thick of the "elite corps" and then seeing the closeness of the scores of the top 7 corps. It is also interesting how the Cadets can be world champs, and then 5th the next year. Parody debate anyone?
  8. Wow...just think of the energy/pressure the first regional will be like...Atlanta? What a ride this year will be! Speaking of rides, how about SCV (I have to interject, I am listening to my APD CD and the Napolean D. from the Cadets just came on, "some how...some way" imagining his fists clenched... ) Anyway, SCV has been making a pretty long journey across the country to get to the show, and then they have an 8 hour drive to Mankato tonight...they are warriors! Hopefully they can get some non-show days this week, get into a groove and continue to clean.
  9. When I was in LaCrosse, WI earlier this summer on business, I saw a news segment on the Blue Stars and they debuted about 30 seconds of their opener and new uniform. Also, when I used to live close to Rockford, the news channels would broadcast an advertisement of the Show of Shows which was always cool to see.
  10. Pretty much from the runs in the pit during Vespertine Formations, then the first hornline impact and the build up to the chord and turn around of the 1000 Airplanes on the Roof opener of PR at Coon Rapids. Then it was a mirade of chills throughout the rest of the show. I have not had chills at an opening show of the year after being to about 13 of them!
  11. Thank you for the original post. Very considerate description of a prominent point of view. I however am along the same mode of thought as Cowtown, but not so far to burn a uniform covered in blood though. I just direct my financial support in other areas...I select shows to travel distances to attend and spend money with, go to certain souvie booths, contribute to certain gas funds, and other things. I do not purchase DCI related materials, I support the corps specifically who I want to see succeed. If DCI is trying to turn into marching band activity, count me out. I think the last time I went to a marching band event was like, 1992...and have seen what they do at football games and just roll my eyes. I became a fan of DC because of its excellence factor, cheesy and poorly done narration is not what I want to pay for.
  12. I left at 3 pages about 30 minutes ago...and returned and it is up to here. I thought the Cavaliers go beat or something and the discussion was going rampid...
  13. I was thinking this might be another 2002 for rewrites for them after putting them into my stereo and realized, yep, they need to go back the drawing board on this... Good for them, looking forward to what they come up with! Happy 50th BD.
  14. Say, that was my first live show ever back in 1991! I remember it well, I lost my drum corps *****ity that night!
  15. I too agree that the APDs are of great quality this year! It is so early in the season, and BTW, who am I to rank these corps anyhow! These are just my opinions, as everyone has one of those "you know whats" along with their opinions! Just listening to SCV and wow do they have some potential for this show. There is some great moments arranged within the hornline and uniqueness in the percussion line, then just a few "stale" moments (for now I am sure). It is one of those challenging shows that once cleaned will be stellar. Cannot wait to see what they do with the drill to this book! This is classic Vanguard to me! BD is a doing some neat things, but the creativity of the arrangement is not as inspiring to me as the SCV book. They will surely perform the Devil out of (or into) it. Cavaliers are smooth in their approach...sort of an easy listening version of the Cavaliers. Somewhat disappointed with the percussion book as a whole (especially compared to SCV). I can only imagine that I will get a better sense of what they are doing once I see them on the field. I loved Machine live, but can count on one hand the times I have played the audio recording since I saw them at finals last year. Bluecoats have a very enjoyable, bluesy and edgy show, while maintaining that Bluecoats appeal. They do so well at maintaining an identity and moving forward with a fresh approach. When the hornline runs are with it, it will be sweet! The top side of that brass line has some additude now, as do the Contras! Great back field effect and I adore what the ballad "will be" in August...so I will be "watching you" in anticipation to see it grow. The percussion book seems to be somewhat redundant to recent years, but good nonetheless. Cadets, they have the power of a champion early on in the game. The phrasing is so well done around the narration even tho I dispise the abundance of talking. You know when you have rude people at a show talking all around you and you want to tell them to shut up so you can hear, that is my reaction. Does this show have staying power...we shall see? Phantom Regiment has provided classy arranging again this year and boy are they mature in their performance approach. This is a show which I believe has some real growth potential once the edges are rounded off. The effect in the pit is surreal, and the field percussion is so crisp. After seeing them live, the resemblance of the corps proper moving as a flock of birds in flight formation is accented so well by the music. The soloists and duet have great talent. Love the big hit and turn around at 3:10. This show will speak for itself throughout the year...I for one love this show and really appreciate what they are doing. (Is the guy in crowd or where ever as the recording winds down who yells "Go....Go...Awesome" on DCP? )
  16. Guess I have to go to the cook truck and fix myself a dang Quesa-Dilla!!!
