  1. Good for them. Once that is done and the brass drill is clean, there should be no stopping them. Madison had big tech problems.
  2. I do love the ballad. But I will have to say that percussion is their strength right now. From what I saw in rehearsal camp, and what I am seeing now, the brass feet are holding the battery feet and hands, back from shooting up to the top. I don't think it is lack fo talent from the kids. I think some serious, but quick design changes need to be made. #1, make some allowance, somehow, so that the entire ballad, horns and singing can be heard, #2 have the ring announcer deepen his voice and quit screeching. (maybe the best thing about BC's narration is you can't hear it!)
  3. Paul Cain sounds awesome! Yeah BC may have to step it u a notch, but according to DCIGUY (next post) Phantom may have their hands full too! LOL Nothing like being with your home team. Kudos to Boston. I like their show.
  4. Well here is what bothers me at a show. Paying top dollar, and I do mean the most expensive tickets available, merely to go to my seat and find some "adult parents", sitting in my seats, and to simply reply, oh well no one has been sitting in the seats two rows down, you can just sit down there. I just couldn't believe the nerve. These peole may very well have paid the same price as I did for seats they were supposed to be sitting in, just as I paid the same price as people 2 or 3 rows above me paid. However if you have ever ordered tickets online, then you know that you have about 5 to 7 minutes to purchase your tickets, before they are released to someone else, who will probably be sitting a few rows up, down, or a few yards closer to the 50. The point being, it really annoyed me that someone woould suggest that it was ok for them to sit in the seat numbers that were on my ticket and I sit somewhere else. My tickets weren't that high up, so a row or two did make a difference. I understand your point about the other groups warming up, and do wonder about that when I am walking into the stadium. Not so much aboout my hearing them inside, but wondering how the kids pay attention to what they are doing. I too especially noticed this in high school competitions, as well as at high school venues in drum corps. I found Camp Randall, my first time there, to be hidden back in the trees, and secure from outside distraction. I guess that it kind of reminded me of a fort, thus explaining the name from what I read. But yeah, it is kid of a double edged sword. We walked down to the buses, and I couldn't help but worry about some of the young girls that were out walking alone, and how tired all of the kids must have been. So warming up a long distance could for sure have it's pros and cons. I thought all the groups I saw in Madison were very good. I liked a coule of shows that I had seen the night before much better in Madison than the night before. It is soo early, and every corps will make changes. I love whatever group my kids are in, I love the event, and I personally have (other than Pasedena), I will agree on that one, but I have never heard, and outright booing or yelling. I have heard people (adults), say how they disliked this show or that show. I try to whisper to my husband if I want to make a negative comment, you never know whose parent may be sitting next to you. It reminds me of my own mother watching her grandkids at various events, and talking very loudly about how her little darlings were so much better than someone elses little darlings etc.. "Mother, that is Susie's mom sitting right next to you"! Have you ever had that happen?? We should be respectful no matter what ou opinion is. Every parent there is paying, at least these parents, are paying &&&&, not to mention time volunteering, donating, traveling, and we all love watching our kids weather they are 13 and on the field for the first time with a Jr. Corps, or if they are a 5 or 6 year vet with the Cavies, or the Blue Devils. And most of us who have been doing this drump corps and band thing for a while can recognize the difference, but it doesn't matter when it is your kid. That's is why you are there. I am not a particular fan of narration, but when my oldest started marching band 12 years ago, I thought color guard was the weirdest thing I had ever seen. We had drill teams, combination pom, cheer and guard. Much more..oh like marching Rocketts. So things change, times change, and we all adapt until it goes full circle back to what it was before. My son's group has narration, I honestly don't pay much attention to it. I am there for the music, and I am a big fan of drill. Sorry you have to listen to people be rude, but I don't think you need to fear for your child's safety. I think drum corps people as a whole are a huge family, and some of the groupies and old dogs, just like how it was when they did it. I certainly like the music I listened to when I was in high school and college, but I do listen to some of theirs that they want me to hear, and I do like some of it.
  5. I think you are right about that. I saw them for the first time, and it was a very nice show, with some very nice visuals.
  6. I stand corrected. I must have been sleeping. It was Glassmen with the circus show. I thought that was a little too animated for Spirit. I saw both shows again tonight, and liked them both. I thought GM had a much better show tonight, some nights you hit and some you don't. GM was just a little too busy, but entertaining. I still like Colts show best of the 3, and it will be neck and neck for all of them again this year.
  7. I like the uniforms too (Scouts), I just think a bold color contrast is very out standing. White on dark, black on light etc...
  8. Don't know me, but you were the 2nd person I heard mention the NightHawks yesterday, and I met a mom, just standing around waiting for kids talking about Northgate. I also want to take back my comment about Spirit and the circus show from last night. I was the one sleeping I guess, I saw them again tonight and like their show. I have always like their drum line, and liked the fact they they used to have 6 bass drums. My son is a bass drummer. In fact tonight in Madison, my husband and I saw amom that we met in Normal last year who was watching her son for the first time. He is a horn player. So keep the Spirit movin' on up!
  9. Lesser known was a bit out there if you have been a part of the DCI world at all. My kid has been in 3 different corps, and world class open winter percussion, and knows someone in practically every top 17 groups. You meet people, and they age out, move on, and in winter groups tend to stay more in their area because of travel on weekends. When it is all said and done, they end up kind of criss crossing all over the place. I know each season he makes lifelong friends. Drum corps people are a very close family.
  10. That sounds fun. It is always great to surprise your kid on tour. I was just talking to another parent tonight, and they mentioned the NightHawks. Is your Northgate Winter guard out of Atlanta? I think I did some cooking with a mom from there, or maybe I just remember it from WGI. Is Northgate Scholastic?
  11. Wasn't there last night. I don't think there were 30. I don't think they had the most people in guard tonight, but they certainly had plenty. I think Madison is back on the upswing. I have read discussion about the style and color of their new unis. I think I like the contrast of the old ones better, but I think the green of the new ones, better reflects the color associated with "Scout", as does the design of the old school, more traditional jacket. I liked their show. Guard seemed to maybe have a few rookies, but also quite a few vets, who were comfortable and knew thier stuff. I would say 25 to answer your question, but when they are all dressed alike and moving so fast, it is hard to be sure. They had a respectable number, nothing to stand out in a negative way.
  12. Huumm. I was thinking the judges were out having a hotdog and using the restroom during Colts, Spirit, and Glassmen! I guess I wasn't interested in watching little girls at the circus, and Colts pulled out in front of Glassmen when it counted in Pasedena, and they (Glassmen)actually had a cool show last year. I must have been sleeping while they were on the field tonight. Nothing against either Glass, or Spirit, but wow, what a shocker! Colts should feel insulted! Colts will kick up their heels and jump the fences. And no I don't have a kid in Colts.
  13. They are so awesome. I honestly believe that they are the friendliest corps around. There si just something different about them.
  14. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I got to see my kido.
  15. The one wasn't in high school for 11 years! I have 3 sons, and had an extra "son" from high school band live with us for 3 years.
  16. I think I could say that about every corps my son has been with, in addition to the 11 years of high school marching band, and jazz band. Band people are the best.
  17. I haven't been to a show yet, so can't comment, and was a vocal music girl, so have no expertise on the subject. I do think Cavies always take the field with a profound statement. I really like thier hats, and they always seem disciplined. A good friend was on the dl last year, too bad it wasn't a good year for them, he was actually asked to come on after the season started. Tell me what you all think about the Bluedoats that is holding them back, brass, percussion, the content of the show, poor drill? I have just watched a bit here and there. I also just received and email from Cadets seeking a horn player, and I guess an actor. Does their show have a living room on the field? What is it about? Their show that is. How are Colts looking compared to last year? How is Glassmen looking compared to Colts? Phantom is coming to my hometown for a rehearsal day, I however will be at two shows this weekend. Last but not least, tell this computer illiterate mom how to post those cute little happy face guys.
  18. Thanks for the info. I just could not come up with anything for the a. Had not taken the time to go to their site and read the history of the group. I do like to do that for all groups during the off season. Better check and make sure I haven't double booked us for any of the numerous hotels for the summer. TaTa for now.
  19. I was just wondering the same thing! I read the lineup that someone posted over and over thinking I had missed something. But sure enough they are not!
  20. Oh I am all for my kid's corps as well. Things often are misunderstood. I just felt like it might be something you would want to post on your private corps website. That's all I'm saying. I know no one in the Boston corps, I loved their show last year, especially their color guard. I wish them them best. I am curious though, what does the A stand for in the Bac? With that said, I am going to get off of this subject. I was just stating my opinion like everyone else, and really only read DCP for fun. It is great that so many people are interested in the sport of the arts, and I think it is a hoot that there are so many groupies young and old chatting about it. I have been reading it for 4 years and never posted a thing until the last couple of days. I hope every kid has their dream come true. Mine happens to want his section to finish first at championship time, so I guess we could say he hopes to pass every other corps by the end of the season. All the more sweet if his entire corps finished in the top 3. Sorry I offended Boston fans. It had nothing to do with that particular group
  21. Wow too much math for me. But I'll take your word for it. You have such a cute picture, and I hope your rankings will flipflop a bit. Thanks for the info.
  22. That is for sure. We should be asleep getting rested up for when we climb the bleachers once again to watch our lil' darlings. I just thought it was poorly worded from a parent standpoint. Last night I read several pages about parents, and others, adopting kids and or corps, and making care packages and goodie bags for those that weren't so fortunate as to have their parents reading DCP every night, and maybe not get as many little goodies as some do. I think that is the spirit of drum corps. I sometimes feel like crying when my child moves from one group to another (kind of like leaving the best teacher ever), until next year's teacher is the best ever. I always like something about every show, some part of the drill, some part of the music, one section, whatever. That's all I am saying. I try to think of it in terms of "for the love of the game".
