Well someone initially mentioned the Bluecoats. Sorry that I am not very computer savvy. I looked under several things, someone mentioned looking under finals retreat. I didn't realize that their were other corps under fire. I just kept searching drunk, vomiting Bluecoats. Never found a thing. Don't remember what happened in baseball 6 years ago as I was raising 3 kids, all boys, so I do care about baseball, and will certainly look it up. I also have or had a child, a drummer, who marched DCI 4 years, each year he has mentioned something that has happened at retreat, sounded like friendly heckling between corps standing next to each other. It does so happen that he was an ageout with the aformentioned corp this year. He was with our family, stone-cold sober, eating pizza shortly after retreat. In the time frame prior to that he was saying good bye to his girlfriend from another corp. We as a family left as soon as the scores were announced, as we personally find all of that standing around time very boring. I agree with someone back in the August threads that I read tonight, about several things. The most important being, forget the horn players, and I have two sons who play horns, get the drums going, people dancing in the stands and it wouldn't be boring and time for "stuff" going on during retreat. Another, do the drum really play higher and lower "notes" in America the beautiful? And if someone can fire a jolly rancher hard enough to dent a drum corps horn, the maybe "they" should be playing baseball instead of the drums! We found out about the one kid right off the bat, my child wasn't drunk, throwing up, or passing out, so why would you assume that any 21 year old, or group of them has control over what any other 21 year old does. I just read Dave's apology tonight as well, and after spending two full weeks with them at their training camp, I can assure you that the BC director and director of operations, attemp to run a very tight ship. However if someone needs a babysitter, perhaps they should stay home with their mommy.

I sure never saw a link to the BC's "incident". Would you mind pointing it out to those of us who missed it. I searched DCP keyword as well. Not out to get the Bluecoats, just curious what you are referring to.

Can someone tell exactly what the Bluecoats did and when? We have been able to read about the UW band, and the New Mexico football players, now that was really disgusting. but since this is Drum Corps Planet, what about the Bluecoats? Is is a secret?

I guess it depends on whose mother you are. Are you a Crown mom or a BC mom? Ha Ha just kidding!

Colts got ripped on this deal. Crossmen had no business being in finals, and Scouts while a cool show was very dirty, I won't comment about what we thought about Scouts' guard. Seems like there was just such a big push to get Scouts back in finals, that that was how it was going to happen, just like BD had to get some caption awards even though Phantom was way ahead in every sense of the way. The judges just can't seem to not recognize the favorites in some way. Go Colts!!!

Regardless of the strength of BC guard, why would any judge of any caption, who was quietly asked to leave WGI, be asked to judge anything in any DCI class. Obviously there is a bigger problem there than her problem with BC. Don't know anything about judging, but doesn't sound like good business sense.

I thought Crown was perfect for it last year, and I saw their show for the first time tonight, like the music, I could see them maybe getting it again, but my vote goes for Glassmen. The story about locking the little girl in the box was pretty funny. Makes me like the show better. It is a show I would expect to see at Disney World not DC.

Not usually a fan of theirs because of the darkness, but thought this year seemed pretty soft and mellow. Don't know the title of their show, so maybe I am missing something in just watching.

How about Capitol Regiment? Have heard their name a lot this year, and some in the past, but can't find out anything about them.

No I was talking about Glassmen. Can't imagine boxing being Disney. I was speaking of Crown and their ponies last year. I think they won it last year.

Well when you have met head to head 4 times, and won 3 of 4 and tied 1, seems like your are gettting screwed. I am not speaking of a "penalty" literally, I am speaking of scores.

So if you had one off night but were still marginally ahead of someone else, you get penalized for a show 3 weeks ago?

I believe Crown received something like that with their creative pony show. This year no doubt it will go to Glassmen with their balloons, and Dorothy running around in her cutsie pigtails. I believe it to be a bit predictable and high schoolish, but the crowd seems to think releasing balloons form your hand or a box is very much like any major fineworks display finale. Just my opinion which accounts for nothing. The crowd loves it, just a bit cutsie for me. But it would fit right in at Disney World Magic Kindom.

Wonder if the new vis staff wasn't what they thought, in addition to many guard just coming out of hs, the same as the new guard person, and rookie brass. Too bad for the battery. I think they will see what they had to miss out on. They were sick!

I feel, and have always felt even through my kids high school days, that design staff is a huge factor. Obviously there will be different pools of talent at different levels. However, my husband and I have often talked about having every corp in a specific division (before we went to the two catagories), play the exact same music, the exact same drill, and perhaps even the exact same all around staff, all in matching uniforms, no corp names, would the top 5 always be the top 5? Just how would that play out? There are absolutely some shows that the judges and fans just don't find as appealing. How often has it been said, after listenng to a critique tape, "well they just didn't like the show"? I know of a show this very year that rehearsed a horrible design for weeks, obvious enough for a blind man to see, but the design staff just couldn't figure it out until it was on the field in front of thousands of people. Were all those weeks a waste of time? Not completely, but it certainly set the corp back from where they want to be right now. The kids obviously aren't perfect, even with fundamentals, the design staff are human as well, but they are supossed to be professionals, and I have no doubt get paid a lot of money, you would think they would pick up on a flop a little bit earlier. I can't think of anything more discouraging than these kids in corps or still in hs, working their butts off, and figure out the judges don't like the show the kids had put in front of them. But if everybody did the same thing it would be boring. We love all the corps and love the competition.

Bluecoats 1st would be awesome. Bluecoats percussion first would be totally awesome. Bluecoats 1 and Colts 12, would cover my little darlings this year.

My family loves Phantom or PHO RHO as my younger kids call them. I am just an old drum mom, I don't get it about Colts are finished. We are personally involved wth Bluecoats and Colts. Honestly we haven't seen many of the open corps. My child and his friends have been involved in so many corps, that we have a personal interest in almost all world class. It's all drum corps, so it's all good.
