  1. I marched with the marching band at NC State (Back in the day!) WOW! What a blast. No music majors at NCSU back then , so everybody in the marching band was there because they WANTED to be there. The full band went to EVERY game-- including going to Maryland, Michigan State, and to the Peach Bowl. They paid for our hotel rooms (4 to a room, of course) and gave us a per deim for food. While not totally funded by the Wolfpack Club, I think they contributed a lot because they wanted the band at the games. What great times! Wouldn't have traded it for anything! These days you don't much see full bands at away football games. Looks to me like the home schools don't want to give up that many tickets....
  2. Not drum corps, but college marching band--attendance around 55,000 at this particular football game. The visiting band was performing (first) and we, the home band, were kneeling on the sidelines, to go on after they finished. I'm right on the 50 yard line, and their featured twirler is performing right in front of me. She was a really pretty girl and very accomplished twirler--had won the national title. This was in the day of halter-style costumes--no shoulders--meaning nothing to pin bra straps to. Well she must have pinned some kind of stiff bra inside her uniform, because just as they start to march off the field, she all of a sudden has TWO sets of boobs!!! One small set in the normal place, and a larger set just below them.
  3. I'm wondering exactly what you mean..... DCI set the limit on numbers, not Crown. Are you implying they had an UNFAIR advantage? Do you mean could they play as LOUD with less horns? What do you MEAN??????
  4. If you go on the fan network, go to the dropdown menu at the top and select madison scouts, then find Madisonic #3, it has pictures and an added treat--the Scouts singing You'll Never Walk Alone. It's very moving.
  5. Your wife is right about today's elite level baton twirlers being athletes. Anybody having any doubts go to the web video site (which shall remain nameless) and type in "team usa world twirling champions" for a very first rate demonstration. Then follow the trail from there. They're AMAZING!! This new age baton twirling is every bit as much a sport as rhythmic gymnastics. The twirling world has been working on trying to get twirling in the olympics since at least the seventies. I think somebody told me the sport has to be practiced in at least 40 countries to be considered for the olympics. I'm not sure where they are in the process, but having all the multiple organizations unite in one World Championship event will probably help them get there.
  6. Anybody got any good close-ups of the Cavaliers cutting up at retreat? Maybe it was very disrespectful, but for me, LMAO!!!!!
  7. If killing is out, and if Crown's show isn't creative enough, then I think the Blue Stars will win it.
  8. I think they look great. (and DIFFERENT!) There's no way they could hide dirt. And do you know what they call them?? A-- capes!!!!!
  9. Since I'm getting ready to leave for the airport to fly to Allentown ( ) I thought I'd open up the discussion. (Sorry I won't be able to participate, but won't have internet access) Lets go Carolina Crown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. I just went to the DCI fan network and pulled up that performance, but DRAT! it's not on there. Bones showing up at performances is one of my favorite things in drumcorps.
  11. Speaking of "Bones" has Bones himself shown up at any shows this year?
  12. I think (leaving Crown completely out of the discussion) that this year is going to fall out in a similar fashion to 2006, when the Blue Devils were undefeated for most all of the summer, then in the end, PR and the Cavies passed them at finals. I saw the Blue Devils and the Cavaliers both last night in Charlotte, and the Cavaliers show is amazing. I'm not sure why the Blue Devils shows don't appeal to me quite as much. Isn't it an amazing summer of drum corps!!!
  13. The separation in today's drumcorps world, for most kids, isn't quite as complete--there are cell phones. My son talks to his girlfriend back home every day.
  14. In a lot of places they'd be considered a whole meal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. Maybe it has something to do with institutions of higher learning!! I became much too familiar with them living in a high rise dorm at NC State in the seventies. The maintenance people wouldn't exterminate the whole dorm at one time. They would do your room if you complained, which just chased them from room to room and seemed to make them get bigger. It's funny what you said about hearing them at night scratching around. I would be sound asleep, and all of a sudden would wake up in the dark and just KNOW one was on the wall beside me. I'd reach up very quietly and turn on the light and THERE HE'D BE, on the wall RIGHT BESIDE ME!!!!!! GROSS!!!! It STILL grosses me out- thirty some years later!!!
  16. Cute, real cute!!! Took me a minute to get it!
  17. We are talking about just big ole ROACHES aren't we? How did they get the polite name "Palmetto bugs" anyway? I've seen them as big as a cigar. YUCK!!!!!!
