  1. Not to be overly harsh, but I think the change up in their guard staff will be a positive thing
  2. In good fun... 1. Cavaliers 2. Cadets 3. Blue Devils 4. Phantom Regiment 5. SCV 6. Bluecoats 7. Crown 8. Blue Knights 9. Boston Crusaders 10. Colts 11. Academy 12. Blue Stars
  3. I have to say, I've enjoyed listening to and watching Stampede the few times I've seen them. Then again, BK usually does produce stellar lines, especially outside of DCI.
  4. It goes both ways, really. From what I've seen, people tend to mix "negative" together with "personal." Each "side" (if you want to call it that) tends to be overly defensive about their opinions, which is simply just that, their opinion.
  5. Same here! Well, I hope it's still in one of those boxes sitting out in the garage
  6. Completely agree! The way drum books should be written, imo. Personally, this was my favorite show of '03.
  7. I was stationed at NASNI once upon a time, heh... anyway, back on topic, some of my beloved corps already do entertaining shows with great drill, so...
  8. Electronics in some way, shape or form have been used in the marching arena since the mid 90s (possibly earlier), so it's hardly cutting edge, nor necessary for the activity to "evolve." Look at how far it has come without it. However, I'll reserve judgement until I've actually seen a corps field a show with all these new "toys." Although, given what I've seen with voice amplification I'm a bit skeptical to say the least.
  9. Given that Zuccala is not new to the corps, and has been assistant director for the last 12 years, I don't think it will have a huge affect on the corps as some seem to think. If anything, I think it'll be a great summer for them - large number of vets, being their 60th anniversary and Fiedler still providing counsel. That said, I'd say Academy will move up if they seriously do some work with their guard.
  10. You're right, it is Sunday (27th). Edit: For those who want to actually follow the meeting recaps (day-by-day plays), they're posting them on DCI's site.
  11. Which all boils down to "taste." You may not like the musical selections and arrangements; however, others may love them. It's entirely subjective -- one (wo)man's opinion over another's. There is no right or wrong.
  12. Indeed. I remember talks, and reading about how Star contributed to Phantom Regiment, 27th Lancers, Crossmen, Velvet Knights, Colts, Troopers, Magic of Orlando and many other corps in times of need. They still contributed $2 million to DCI and other corps after they left, and even sponsored the championships for 5 years. It definitely makes me proud to say I was a part of such a classy organization.
  13. Gender: Male What age were you when you marched: 17 What age are you now: 36 Which instrument did you march/play: Snare/Percussion Which corps is you favorite (besides your own): Santa Clara Vanguard What is your (intended) college major/degree in: N/A Which corps did you march with: Star of Indiana What years: 1990-1993 Why did you join drum corps: A friend of mine had took me to a practice in 1989, and I like what I saw and hearsd. So, I auditioned for the following year, and the rest is history! What was your best experience: If I had to choose just one, I'd say the feeling after completing our show finals night in '91. Do you intend to continue to support DCI after you retire from competition: I do to the extent I can afford to.
  14. Indeed. I've only listened to the show twice since finals, still haven't quite taken to it. But I love the opener!
  15. Who are we to sit here and say what is a "right" or "wrong" reason to change corps? Everyone marches for different reasons, and with different goals in mind. If junior wants to experience what it is like to perform at finals, then so what? It may be self-serving, but that's his choice.
  16. I believe that puts him at 20. Edit: And, even if you don't count the years beyond 2002 .. that still puts him at 18.
  17. Still involved in music as a percussion instructor, but never went the career route.
  18. We used duts in '93, but not through every passage like most lines do today. We also strived not to be heard, which is something else lines of today don't really seem to place much emphasis on. I think the fact it can be heard from the stands is what most have a problem with, not the actual dutting itself.
  19. Personally, I don't think they're needed to the extent lines are using them today. Then again, I've never marched in a line where we extensively used them throughout the entire program. However, I don't mind them, so long as it's not that loud to where it's easily heard.
  20. And to think that was pretty much written "on-the-fly" :) For me, musically: Phantom '96, '03 SCV '99 BD '85, '88 Drill: Cavies '00-04 SCV '80, '99, '07
  21. '88 BD was what first came to mind when I saw the thread, as well. As for Star 92, we placed first most of the season (undefeated the last two weeks), placed 1st at quarters, but dropped be one placement each of the following two nights.
  22. Indeed, and one snare line in particular popped to mind when I read this... SCV '07. The majority of them were 17 years of age. I'm sure lines from corps further up on this year's ladder, so to speak, have members of relatively similar ages.
  23. There are only three collection points for MPSA (APO and FPO addresses), which are located in NYC (AE), Miami (AA) and San Francisco (AP). UPS does not accept APO/FPO addresses. The only way to get packages to an APO/FPO address is via USPS. There are services though, like ShipitAPO, that provide a forwarding service for APO/FPO addresses (e.g. the package is delivered to one of their facilities, and they then ship it USPS to the APO/FPO address).
