  1. I read that book a couple years ago! I want to read it again now and also the other book the author wrote. This is a fascinating topic, oldbaritone...
  2. LisaLisaMoMeesa - you crack me up! Guizeppe - awesome review and photos! Question: Renegades pit is not on the sideline... Has this ever been done before?
  3. Rats. If only I was of age ... I would join VK! Looking forward to seeing your show!
  4. Awesome! Thanks for the link--I would have missed the article otherwise. I can't wait to see/hear her!
  5. So, here's another question... With the long distances mentioned in this thread, do any of you bypass other corps' sites to get to your own?
  6. You bring up some good points... Though I must say that I'm totally cool with my kids watching over my shoulder when I'm on DCP than when I'm on, say, MySpace... DCP is tame compared to what kids get exposed to these days, IMHO. How do we strike a balance between protecting our kids and sheltering them from the world? A rhetorical question--no need to reply. Just sayin...
  7. This thread goes to show how amazingly dedicated drum corps people are! What other activity is out there that goes the distance? Maybe some sports? (Not talking pro sports, but more along the lines of a hobby.) I suppose living in the East Coast and Midwest, if you're crossing state lines and making your way through another state or two, you could feel like you're going somewhere. If you're in Texas and California, you could drive the same distances and still be in the same state and feel like you're not getting anywhere! As an example, I would be amazed at friends who live in Indianapolis and who would regularly make a driving trip to Washington D.C. just for the weekend! It didn't seem like it was a big deal to them, except maybe for now that the gas prices have been inflated so much…
  8. Aww... Doncha hate it when stuff like that happens? It sure doesn't sound intentional at all. It's not the first time this kind of thing happens, and it probably won't be the last... Why do suppose that is? Wind conditions, or something? (Just curious.) A reminder to everyone to drive safely and all that good stuff... Wow! Kudos to Bridgemen!
  9. Hear, hear! Back in January, summer seemed so far away… Now it's here! Yippee! Best wishes to everyone!!!!
  10. Really? I don't know him personally, but it seems to me that he does what he does to promote the activity and get people involved and excited to participate. I don't mean to argue with you but simply provide another point of view... There are many ways to look at things.
  11. Bummer.......... Wait, I know! What if you took the bones out so that it's no longer crunchy?
  12. What Peggly had to say was food for thought… And, I do agree with what drumlaw80 has to say as well… Perhaps going slightly off topic here…but kinda/sorta to illustrate a point… My husband and I have disagreements over what our children can watch on TV. I'm okay with most cartoons, some of which my husband gets furious at me for allowing our kids to see. Yet he is oblivious to the fact that when he watches sports and encourages our boys to watch alongside him, there are commercials for alcoholic drinks (often with scantily-clad women) and other things like, for example, Cialis. I just about died from laughter when I overheard my oldest son asking my husband, "Dad, what's erec---- dysfunction?"
  13. Well, you can thank "TenorsForWorldDomination" for getting me to reply at all to this post! Actually, I can appreciate what he has to say just simply because I'm okay with differences in opinions. TFWD: If this is your hot dog corps, then by all means, visit the hot dog stand. It will give those behind the counter something to do. Is it possible to say, "We can agree to disagree"? Do we all have to like the same thing? It's a matter of taste, isn't it? Some people like Crunchy Frog; some don't. No biggie. And, no disrespect. Debating is cool. However, I don't think it's okay to slam each other based on one's opinion. Just like it would not be okay with me if DCA were to squelch an effort like Crunchy Frog. To me, that would be akin to censorship. As I said before, I'm for supporting all creative musical expression. Now I'm truly looking forward to Crunchy Frog '08!
  14. Erich Fromm: "Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties." A.A. Milne: "One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries." Carl Sagan: "It is the tension between creativity and skepticism that has produced the stunning and unexpected findings of science." Edward de Bono: "It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all." George Bernard Shaw: "Some look at things and ask 'Why?' I dream things that never were and ask, 'Why not?'" Einstein: "Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else has thought."
  15. With a screen name like yours, you do sound like you have a great sense of humor! Do you think, though, that everyone would want to be dominated by tenors? My point being is that Crunchy Frog may not be everyone's cup of tea, that's true. I have not seen Crunchy Frog myself. I did see Anthrax Ripple last year which I imagine was a form of reincarnation of Crunchy Frog, yes? I enjoyed every I&E performance I was able to catch, but Anthrax Ripple left me with a huge smile and a feel-good feeling. I felt the performance was creative, outlandish, crazy, full of energy, and displayed a lot of out-of-the-box thinking. And, it was memorable, too! It's this kind of avant-garde creation that can be inspiring and spawn other projects, not necessarily similar either. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, of course, being that art appreciation is subjective. I hope DCA continues to support all forms of creative musical expression.
  16. I hear she's nice, so long as you're nice to her. You taint her honor, prepare to die.
  17. To be truly in the active voice, the statement should simply say, "If I told you, my pretties, I would have to destroy you!" Two things to support wsssb's grammatical claim: 1) Any verb preceded by "be" and ending with "-ed" becomes passive and not active (i.e., "… be destroyed …"). I think wsssb made a joke with his own sentence because he, too, used the passive voice: "… be used …" 2) The moment the supposed subject is placed at the end with "… by _____," it becomes passive. Once again, wsssb repeats the passive voice with "… by someone." However, in all fairness to Elphaba, when I read Elphaba's statement, I believe it is appropriately done with dramatic flair, with particular emphasis on the "you" and "by me" and ending with a diabolical laugh. (Can you just hear it?!) End of my own claim for grammatical correctness. Anyone's support of this would be appreciated by me. LOL Huge digression ... Now back to the original, scheduled program …
  18. Ahem... Come to sunny SoCal. We have beautiful weather forecast for this weekend. For Saturday, 71°; for Sunday, 76°. Remember to bring your sunscreen.
  19. Ah, totally makes sense. At first glance, marching cymbals looks so easy, but it's much more physical than one would suspect. It looks like fun, so best wishes to you. Maybe wearing chain mail can protect you in the meantime!
  20. Dang! What are those bruises from?! And, are those your arms or legs? (Forgive me if I don't recognize the body parts...) I listened to the recording, and boy, you guys are coming out strong. For January. And pit parts, too. Wow. Geezus.
  21. Pssst! HEY! What about the pit?! We had music for the ballad, too. Plus, we sorted through the stick bags and found... . . . T R I B B L E S ! ! ! ! (They wanna be in the show, too!)
  22. Free animal balloons to the first one hundred people to walk through the door!
