  1. They for sure have the talent. They just need to do something with their programming.
  2. At least the Blue Knights aren't doing all of that willy-nilly silly skipping, hopping, twitching, and corps proper degrading body movement they were doing back in '06. The Glassmen used to do that meaningless crap from the early '90s-'97 before they wised up and realized that only goes so far before it becomes laughable. I'm all for body movement for effect and such; just be smart about it.
  3. Yes, I'm saying that I prefer the Boston Crusaders of the past over what they are doing currently. It's awesome they are in the top 12; but I just liked what they were doing back then a lot more. I'll take Boston's '88 version of Les Miserables over what they did this past summer, most definitely. However, thier 2006 show-"Cathedrals Of The Mind"- was awesome. And for this, I stand partially corrected.
  4. The Blue Knights ventured that path back in '01 and we all know how well that turned out.
  5. Has anyone else ever noticed how the intro to Trittico sounded a lot like the music that DCI used to use for its PBS telecast?
  6. That link totally made my day! I played it twice through. I f*****g love it!
  7. The masses have spoken and agreed, it's Trittico time again!
  8. I was on staff with a corps that was waiting for thier rehearsal time in the stadium when the NIU football team plowed through Capital Regiment. I saw the entire thing, and it was pretty surreal and quite sad. However, seeing NIU players and the coach that was responsible in handcuffs being led away by the campus police was hilarious. If I recall, some of those players were suspended and/or kicked off the team and the coach was fired.
  9. '87 Crossmen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3JQQvzpjRo&feature=related Also interesting to see how Camp Randall looked back in the day.
  10. The Cadets = Jeremiah Symphony The Blue Devils = A selection of hits from the late '70s - the '80s The Cavaliers = Canzona along with some other tunes or a part II to thier '06 android show Phantom Regiment = Symphonie Fantastique (I actually enjoyed thier '85 show!) Boston Crusaders = Thier 1990 show (my favorite Crusaders show of all time) Spirit of Atlanta = Brothers of Bop and Blues In the Night Bluecoats = give me some high octane Autumn Leaves Crossmen = Summertime, Wind Machine, and Caravan Santa Clara Vanguard = Thier 1985 show (Festive Overture, SCV style, is drum corps happiness!) Madison Scouts = Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters, Strawberry Soup Glassmen = something similar to '98, '99, and '01 1990 Boston, back when they were BAC (and still marching those d**n heavy ol' Luds)! I would love for Boston to go back to being feisty, aggressive, and powerful as they were back then.
  11. I'll agree with the '88 version of Summertime; it was a more polished arrangement. That jam n' groove in Rumble was sa'weeeet!
  12. I've gotta add 1987 next to 1990 for favorites. The Crossmen were almost left for dead after '86 and they came back big and strong in '87 with a sweet show and some awesome uniforms! I remember seeing them in the DCI parade, in '87, and thier drumline blew me away. From '87 and thereafter, it was up, up, and away towards the top 12! The 1990 Crossmen had the best arrangement of Caravan, ever!
  13. Might as well take a stab at the top 12, too: 1. The Cadets (if they keep this fresh yet retro thing going on, they will enjoy another nice ride to the top) 2. The Blue Devils 3. The Cavaliers 4. Santa Clara Vanguard (this will only be attained with programming. The talent is there) 5. Phantom Regiment/Carolina Crown 6. Phantom Regiment/Carolina Crown 7. Madison Scouts (bold move; but will crash the party) 8. Bluecoats (lost too much this past season to hang onto a top 7 finish) 9. Boston Crusaders/Blue Stars 10. Boston Crusaders/Blue Stars 11. Blue Knights 12. Spirit of Atlanta (one of my favorite shows last summer; but I just can't see them getting any higher than 12).
  14. I'll take a stab at those outside the top 12 and/or gunning for that finalist spot: 13. The Academy (I disliked thier show and really disliked thier new uniforms; but I didn't dislike thier talent) 14. Crossmen (lots of cool things happening down in San Antonio. Pretty impressed with them last year. If they continue on bringing back Crossmen style jazz, they will be movin' on back up) 15. Glassmen (Yawn; but good enough for a solid spot in the Friday show) 16. Colts (Another talented corps that's a definite for a top 17 position) 17. The Troopers (Talented corps; but last year's show was a huge snooze) 18. Pacific Crest (As usual, so close; but just can't punch into the Friday show) 19. The Mandarins/ Jersey Surf (The Mandarins proved to be quite a feisty lot last year) 20. The Mandarins/ Jersey Surf (Jersey Surf seems poised to make a move) 21. Teal Sound (I'm just not sold on thier programming; all of the b******t that's been surrounding them might take a toll on thier talent and size) 22. Seattle Cascades (Smaller Division 1 corps, as seen this past summer, and just bad programming. Way over the top themes that don't work) 23. Pioneer (Smallest of the Division 1 corps, lack of talent, and same old programming will, sadly, keep Pioneer in thier annual position) **Note! Possible advancing Div II and III corps not included in ranking.**
  15. 1. The Cadets going back to being The Cadets that a lot of drum corps fans missed. 2. The Cadets winning. 3. The Cavaliers stilt walkers.
  16. One of the reasons why people get so down on Pioneer and use them as a source of humor on DCP, every year, is the fact that they always come out with this hype about thier corps, program, and how great they are going to be; then, as winter progresses into spring, they don't get the membership that they desire, the music has become this and that, and the annual excuses arrive: "that's what we were planning to do" or "this is what we decided to do." The reality is, how can Pioneer expect everyone else to take them seriously when they don't take themselves seriously. I'm glad they are still around and, yes, I've done more than my fair share of cracking jokes about them; but something really, really needs to change with that organization.
  17. Sooo, this show could also be titled "Irish In Your Face part (insert appropriate number)"
  18. I don't recall stating anything in regards to the support of the Blue Devil's use of props. Moreover, the last time I enjoyed a Blue Devil's show was back in 2007. Since then, they've been boring and a great excuse to go use the toilet. At the beginning of this past season I was hyping on the Blue Stars, as I saw a program that had potential; but, ultimately, failed. For the most part, I've always disliked the Blue Stars' use of props; might as well include the use of electronics and voice, as well. If that makes me fair weather, so be it. I call things like I see and hear them. If I like something, I'll say it; if I dislike something, I'll say it.
  19. Corpssaavy, until you've been around the activity as long as some of us have, your commentary will be nothing more than a humorous read. Now, back to the Blue Stars brass staff discussion...
  20. This. The Cadets learned their lesson with props, voice, and electronics overload and look where they ended up.
