  1. Nice score BD! Welcome Jubal and our good freind Hans Kloppert.
  2. BDB into Pennsylvania this tour. I'm thinking this is the furthest east they've ever been.
  3. I love the Blue Devils because they blew away a shy 13 year old kid with that amazing brass sound in 1978 and hooked him for life. I love the Blue Devils because the organization offered younger corps to train and surround him with greatness to allow him to rise to heights never dreamed of. I love the Blue Devils because they taught him to be brave, positive, creative with uncounted skills that have effected his entire live. I love the Blue Devils because he met and married the most wonderful woman in the world, and she's a Blue Devil! I love the Blue Devils because they allowed his son to also grow up as a Blue Devil and is out there as we speak delivering the joy and history of this organization at maximum volume! Drum corps is a great activity for all the youth involved. Love your drum corps. Know that this dazzling flash of Blue and Silver out there every summer has a huge foundation of caring families, staff, alumni and volunteers that provide these wonderful members with the most fantastic and life enriching experiences of their lives. Please check out this book from one of my mentors for a peek behind the curtain. Jack is a major contributors to the BD philosophy of treating its members with respect and the responsibility to maximize their personal potential. You would be amazed at what you can actually achieve. I was. Space Music by Jack Meehan http://www.amazon.com/dp/0615492401/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
  4. I think they are going to be OK, they added a roof at the Walnut show.
  5. I had to Google Ty but I see what you've done here. You're not too far off base.
  6. It's a formula that works for them. People think BD is being arrogant or secretive about announcing the show design late when in fact they are sitting back and assessing the talent and skills of their member ship and letting the show concept grow organically. The veteran staff knows what they are doing and the membership is extremely talented as BD’s recent record is a draw. The BD style of instruction is designed to bring out the individual talent and responsibility with the expectation that they will become more than what you teach them. This year’s rush to Texas required them to short cut the process in design and get something on the field quickly as it did with all the corps. I think we are seeing them all catch their stride and fine tune their show. With scores as tight as they are it’s anyone’s game. Was Texas worth it? I don’t know but it was sure nice having Phantom and Cadets come visit us on the west coast. They are awesome!
  7. Go Blue! Lot's of great competition this year. BD is only going to get better and better. The early season took them off their formula but the members learn fast and are very talented. I see nothing but improvement to the end as they know what to do to maximize in Indi. Cavies and Cadets are also old vets at this so I see the same for them. It's going to be a very interesting year!
  8. What a horrible idea to put DCI on the west coast.....once. "I believe in hash marks....this I believe"
  9. Wow, scores nationally are very unstable. Can't wait to see them all get together again. Texas was too early and the weather was misserable for all involved.
  10. It was pretty tasty but a slow part of the drill. I understand they cut is down to make room for other changes in the show. I wouldn't mind hearing it again in the pre-show.
  11. I heard he also had a mirror and lived in a house, but it was not a home.
  12. This is starting to remind me of early 80's recordings where they would place the mike's for the recordings in front of the pit. Sounded like a ice cream truck parked on the 50. Live was a different experience. Perhaps the microphone placement has to be re-thought again.
  13. Sadly this is DCP. Apparently it is acceptable to be rude when BD is the topic.
  14. No way I can fill in the blanks here other than the BD, SCV and Cadets classics at the end. Either way thank you for the "flight" of drumcorps this evening. State of the Art is one of the greatest drum corps albums and lives in my cars CD player as we speak. Thanks Frank!
  15. Being that this is DCP I guess it would have to be Blue Devils any show any year. ;)
  16. Well said. I am a huge fan of the Blue Devils shows. I'm also a fan of the Cadets corps although not so much on the show "augmentations". Isn't it great that we have diversity and can have fun comparing and contrasting and enjoying the rivalry? But more importantly if you love drum corps should you not be voting for all of the drum corps programs? Short of another favorite charity on the list I'm am surprised that SCV, Glassmen and BD do not match the votes of DCI. Kudo's to Cadets for taking it to a higher level. Remember it's not winner take all, give all these corps a vote if you have any left.
  17. Please note that this contest is not winner take all. There are awards all the way down to 25th place and a few special awards as well. Every vote counts. I have given my 5 votes to drum corps because I know from personal experience what a positive impact this activity has had on mine and my family’s lives. We know all the drum corps listed provide life changing experiences and deserve your vote. A certain drum corps is a lifetime rival of mine and yes I proudly voted for them too. J By virtue of what is provided to youth by all these drum corps you can be assured that these awards will be well spent. If I may, I would like to encourage a vote for the Blue Devils if you have not already done so. In this case the funding will be designated for the One Music One World program to provide outreach and mentorship and is outside the general funding of the corps. If you have not seen the wonderful work that is going on with the Field Band Foundation I encourage you to seek them out and other organizations like them. It is organizations like this that may share in the benefits that we have all received through our participation in this great activity called drum corps. Together your five votes can make a huge difference!
  18. Sorry folks. Using existing wifi and cell phone network back up. Worked fine ahead of time but when the crowds came out with all their smart phones it killed the bandwidth.
  19. Be sure to tune in at 12:30 Pacific for BD horns and drums preview, Live!
  20. I was in 82 BD. I think it was very cool that they pulled it out in the end, very risky and exciting even if it was after the gun. Tear or not they got the GE credit and the crowd reward that they were looking for. Much love to our rivals SCV and a spectacular effort. Just not quite enough ;) In my opinoin the contest was won in prelims that were held in an open air stadium. The accoustics were so bad in that place I'm not sure how anything other than GE and visiual could possibly be judged. It was a long time ago but I believe the accuostics to have been far worse there than in Lucas Oil.
