  1. The one thing I don't like about this solo is... it was too difficult to hear from my TERRIBLE seat at finals... next year, no cheap seats... so I can better hear the awesomeness. Also, Bob, please run for President of The United States in 2012.
  2. Thanks for keeping things in perspective, Bob. Please... put your spreadsheets away! ...or just show them to someone else, I've already seen them (or at least heard them from you) Also, wouldn't that 4th valve possibly put the low B and E more in tune... (2+4 rather than 1+2+3) (not that those notes are used)
  3. I plan to take all my mouthpieces with me to midwest... I'll give the horns a whirl.
  4. I have the same opinion... Yamaha > the rest They're workin on the 4th valve thing Jason... On the PR to Jupiter issue... Has anyone else noticed that The Jupiter horns and King horns look (and possibly sound) a lot alike? (I noticed this mainly in the baritones/euhoniums as that is what I specialize in) ...I just wonder if the Jupiter horns have all the intonation difficulties built into them like the Kings... hmm... However, I agree that the approach to the instrument will prevail above all.
  5. Mine was $80 or $85... but I still haven't received it... someone was hired to do work of that nature... halfway through tour she quit... she had never ordered my jacket (which I had ordered before the season) oh well...
  6. Just research Chris Martin... that's all...
  7. If your primary goal is making it into a corps of a certain level... then baritone/euphonium... seems like less auditionees per available spots, and these people are the most likely to flake leaving spots to fill late in the preseason.
  8. Well... they don't have him any more... but fortunately the Ball State Wind Ensemble and Fortress of Brass tuba/euphonium quartet still do.
  9. Agreed... Love the Coats Bari/Euph line... but to say I'm not worthy...? That would be a lie.
  10. Don't worry about that... I'm pretty sure a new horn is in the works. (I witnessed a design meeting just a few days ago.)
  11. I started in 5th grade as a trumpet player, switched to euphonium my freshman year of high school, and to tuba my sophomore year. (all the while still playing trumpet in jazz bands/pep bands) I also learned trombone and horn and have played all of these instruments in college bands. This summer I will be marching euphonium with a World Class corps.
  12. My prediction: 2008 will be an EXCELLENT year for the Pioneer hornline.
  13. I just can't wait to hear that awesome Bluecoats hornline.
  14. I'm just disappointed that I won't be in the first event held at Lucas Oil Stadium. I've marched at Memorial Stadium before... it's just not the same.
  15. My prediction: all about letters: A drum corps from a city in Illinois that starts with the letter R, performing a show starting with the letter S, and whose title begins with a letter rhyming with D will win.
  16. From my experience King brass instruments (particularly marching brass) tend to be less durable and consistent than horns from other manufacturers. They also seem to be more difficult to play in tune than other horns.
  17. Jupiter has been turning out quality products lately. I would not suggest passing just based upon the name.
  18. I'm not a fan of Hopkins... however, I am a HUGE fan of Schoenberg.
  19. I did play the new Jupiter marching euphonium. I (being silly) did not play it side-by-side with any of the other horns, but it looks (and if memory serves plays) very much like the king. Overall... not bad, but not up to the level of Yamaha. But then again I despise King marching brass for many reasons. (intonation, being made of pudding, etc.)
  20. Thanks. Try not to hit the euphonium section with your babies please.
  21. Ibelieve that Kings have a darker sound than Yamahas. However, ergonomics, intonation, and durability are all better on yamaha horns from my observations. I much prefer Yamahas to Kings. A colleague recently asked me what marching baritones he should get for his school's band and immediately said Yamaha. Later in the week he had me test a Dynasty sousaphone for his group. I found that the dynasty sousaphone was well built, played pretty well in tune, and has 4 valves. (all for much less $ than one would spend on a Yamaha, King, or Conn 3 valve sousaphone) However, I also played the Dynasty contra on display as well as the marching euphonium and much prefer Yamaha for those items.
