  1. 7 G-bugle corps and 7 marchingbands PLUS The Yokohama Inspires Alumni Corps. On November 23 @ Nissan Stadium in Yokohama.
  2. Jerry Noonan, my idol, my hero!! Ole by North Star is an icon for drum corps itself.
  3. http://www.dcjpn.org/score/ajc.html The only G-bugle competiion left on this planet (maybe). Check out the judging panels WOW. Thanks to them, we had another meaningful gigs 3 weeks before JMA national championships.
  4. Scouts, Inspires, Jokers and Indigoes. They all seems to have had fine gigs @ the all Japan championships. Good for you, G bugle corps.
  5. Wow!! Nice taps and accents. Saw this video for the first time. But, this song has been a Heavy Rotation tune at a local FM station in my area. Good for you, the guys from Shu-mais!!
  6. I have heard that several numbers of original players owned the Bridgemen-like coats. Anyway, our unis in yellow (plus black pants) have come from the color of the banana-coat. The original foundation of the Jokers was around 85 or 86. Having watched the situation of the Bayonne corps, Some guys around Kyoto made a drum corps under the motto "During a short absence of the B-men, we will hold their way of show creation ". Naturally, Comical and Theatrical have been the basics of our shows. Our latest gig was "The Field Art NEXT 2010" in Maibara city on last Sunday. It was the last performance of 2009-10 season. Now we are planning the show for coming season. Ken, Brass Arranger for the Jokers
  7. I guess this should have been linked first. http://www.middlehornleader.com/Maroney%20Interview.htm If it has, sorry.
  8. I've just come back from the trip. First of all. I believe DCJ is one of the best competition for players. Guys may have worried about holding gigs outside in January, it was even hot in the sun. Scores and reviews will be showed soon by someone. Personally, it was nice talking to Eddie, Dave and Bob. Thanks. Ken
  9. As a staff member of a competing drum corps, I am happy to be there again. And I AM happy to be among the guys who want to keep drum corps as it was. We use G bugles. We never use amps. We welcome a corps even if they have less than 30 guys. Please don't take that as I am complaining to the recent changes. We are happy and it's our honor to maintain a treasure that you, U.S. people, brought to us. I hope to see you there, guys. Ken, composer/arranger for the Jokers P.S. Eddie, you come by bus? Don't catch a cold on the way.
  10. http://gov.ca.gov/press-release/10703/ Oh, no.
  11. According to their homepage, bridgemen.com, 1975 must have been a tough season for them. And 76 was the first year of those yellow coats. 1975 The exodus of talent continued into the next season. Changes in staff were continuous to the point that at the end of the season the corps was basically self-taught. The last place finish at the 1975 Dream Contest was the nadir of the corps existence. The Bridgemen elected not to travel to Philadelphia to compete at the DCI preliminaries. Summoning the very last vestiges of pride, the corps conducted a work weekend prior to the September NJ American Legion competition so as to break a score of 70. That was the only goal accomplished in 1975. The winter of 1975-76 was one of intense soul searching for the organization. The demographics in the drum corps activity were changing. No longer was St. Andrew's Parish the lifeline for new members, although the Kidets were doing their best to promote their members into the ranks. Increasingly, the corps membership roster was becoming more reliant on new members from not only “out of town,” but out of state. Our affiliation with St. Andrew Church was waning, as financial hard times across the country was taking its toll on arts programs in many forms. The Bridgemen had to scramble to find new avenues of fundraising. Ed Holmes and Fr. Donovan, along with the support of the Bridgemen Booster organization, decided to roll the dice and give it one more go to secure a competitive corps for 1976. It was decided that the corps would advertise in local newspapers and drum corps publications and hold an Open House for prospective members. Knowing that publicity alone would not be enough to retain those willing enough to join the effort, a change in direction, show design, uniform and attitude was required. Behind the scenes negotiations were under way to hire a Program Director that would not only change the direction and fortunes of the Bridgemen, but that of the activity itself.
  12. I used to work for the wholesaler of a musical instrument supplier back then. I'm posting from Japan. 87 was very first (and could be the only) year that DCI made the multi-cam video series of all the non-finalists. I mean there were the series of the multi-cam from the Class A and A-60 to semi-finalists. I'm sure that I saw an up-close shot for the crazy drum(set) solo of the Spartans' Buddy Rich show. Was the one that played TV program theme show the Emerald Knights? And, yes, the baritone-solo guy from the Wave (he must have won the I&E). He also got an up-close shot from the right side of him during the opener. These are some from my memory. Although I've forgotten for A/A60, but they made the top 21 or 25 semi finals video in multi-cam format also in 88 and 89. Ken, the brass arranger for the Jokers, Kyoto, Japan
  13. Thanks, Eddie for a quick upload. It was really a magical and emotional evening yesterday. As a staff member for the Jokers, I am proud of members, so as the organisation of DCJ. and audience. I saw many guys who seem that they are from U.S. Would like to hear from them. Live long, DCJ Ken
  14. Yo, buddy, One small mistake for Tokai result. ( Personally , I wish that could be the truth, but... ) Gold for the First Stars Silver for the Blue Topaz Thanks, and go on the topics. Ken 3rd class brass arranger for a tiny drum corps defeated in Kansai
  15. The 20th annual Marching in Okayama marked one of the biggest success in its history. 49 units including the selected ensemble from the Blue Devils performed in front of audience from all over Japan. the tunes that BD played were: One-Eyed Sailor, Since I Fell 4 U, Free, etc. PLUS some portions of the Winged Victory. The competition division gave some of the contestants the chance to have their first show for this competitive season. The Yokohama Scouts easily topped and took all captions. 1st The Yokohama Scouts 2nd Senshu Univ's Tamana HS 3rd Jokers 4th Toyota Illusion Magic 5th Tokushima Indigoes 6th Legend of Angels 7th Himeji Saints So, Eddie, add some more. And did you see any DCPers?
  16. Hmm.... 80 some for the first show there. Thanks for a fine job, Kids. The upcoming scores will show that you can get such scores with G bugles and the unamplified pit. Show them (and me) the way it was, Scouts!!
  17. Fran, My thoughts and prayers are with you and Barbara. I found this thread yesterday. And your name reminded me that "Hey, it's the guy who has written one of the most moving posts on r.a.m.d " It was about your leaving home in St. Michaels. Since I was made happy by reading your post so much, I introduced it on the BBS I lead. I believe many drum corps people from Japan have read it. What moved me much was that so many guys replied and I feel that I have loved drum corps more since then. You are always among my teachers for drum corps. Ken Nojiri The Jokers drum and bugle corps, Kyoto, Japan
  18. So it's time for Okayama. I am really excited. I won't be there because of my job, though. Ape, pls check out the Jokers , the corps which I write musics for. It's their first show of the season. Anyway I'll be happy if they do fine and you enjoy a good trip. Eddie, I (and the Jokers) miss the Sonic!! Ken "geritubo" Nojiri Arranger for the Jokers, Kyoto Have a good weekend, guys!
  19. http://www.dbi-j.com/wcc200601.htm BTW, on the day after the DCJ, the drumcorps and marchingband people joined together at Kyoto. The Western Corps Connections 2006 made a big success featuring various units from the western part of Japan with Mr. Adam Rapa (What a guy!!) from Blast! I was absent, though. You can check the pics and trailer video from the link above.

  22. Having seen the timetable for Kanto at the website of the JMBA-Kanto, it is one of the toughest competition in Japan with no doubt. BTW, the finals performance for the Phoenix Regiment will be on December 18 at the same place ( Saitama Super Arena ) . I mean the national championships for the HS class. The only regional that is left is the Tokai (mid-eastern region). Will be held on Nov 12-13 at the Rainbow Hall in Nagoya. enjoy
  23. From the Far East, I would like to tell ya all I Love the Knights '82 !!!!! I really often listen to the mini disc copied from the analog LP, which also includes the Suncoast playing "Rainmaker" or "Greatest Love of All". BTW, I think the horn books were penned by Larry Kershner, weren't they? His (published) )marchingband sheets included " In Like a Lion" and so on. (It's beenl ong time, though...) Many of my friends also like '85 (Jesus show) Ken "geritubo" Nojiri The Jokers, Kyoto, Japan
