  1. Being from the Rockford area, I have a hint of the same sentimental attitude towards Boylan, but I think it's safe to say that the Show of Shows outgrew its home years ago. When was the last time there was a show in DeKalb? Whitewater would also be a good choice. If it absolutely has to be in the Rockford area there's always Hononegah. I think SoS was once held there 10-12 years ago. I will say though - for the sake of transparency - that is my alma mater, but at least spectators wouldn't have to deal with the sun in their faces for the first 3 corps.
  2. As a former marching member, former BoD member, and parent, I have to say I admire Teal Sound's decision to pack up and go home. They did what was in the best interest of the marching members. Plain and simple. You hate to see this happen but things could be far worse. Several of the parents plastering the Teal Sound facebook wall with their witch hunt should be ashamed. What is happening to their children, while unfortunate, is the best thing that could happen when you consider their safety and well being. These parents complain about getting fleeced out of their money, but so did the corps it looks like (based on facebook and tumblr posts). The reasonable/sensible thing to do is for the corps and the parents to collectively go after the first bus company. Real shame.
  3. . . . But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
  4. I disrespectfully disagree. Barney is wholesome, friendly, and an all around nice-dino. I take offense to your comment and I call for you immediate removal from DCP, DCI, and any other organization starting with the letter D.
  5. Sue K. is definitely the contact person for most DCI things. She is one of the most helpful when it comes to anything. In regards to a DeKalb show, I talked with a gentleman in Rockford who identified himself as the Vice President of DCM (I aplogize for forgetting your name--and yes, there is still a DCM for those wondering). I asked him if it would at all be possible for them just to sponsor a show in DeKalb. They wouldn't even have to call it the Drum Corps Midwest Championship. I imagine if you turn your paperwork in early enough you could get a nice draw from the DCI scheduling dept. However, I am not an expert by any means when it comes to who DCI does it schedules and such. I just know I too miss drum corps in DeKalb.
  6. What you're seeing there is something that isn't slated to be completed for another 3-4 years. There are also several stages that will take place between now and the picture you see. Add on top of that the finances needed and you have something that is just a dream right now. No need to worry though about DCI-Central Illinois. It will continue to take place at ISU for many years to come.
  7. I think Hooters tends to be the meeting spot. I'll be selling souvie's at the Capital Sound tent. Stop by and say hi.
  8. Who's going? Who's taking pictures? Who can't wait to FINALLY see/hear this show? Regardless of the rumors, opinions, and/or scores, I think this year will be a good one for the Men of Madison. RIP MY FACE OFF! ^OO^
  9. It is painfully obvious Tom that you were (and still aspire to some degree to be) a wedding DJ. "Don't Stop Believin"--Journey "Give a little bit"--Supertramp Anything by the Doobie Brothers "September"--Earth, Wind, and Fire "The Chain"--Fleetwood Mac And to follow in the same vain as Tom's wedding ideology= "Return of the Mac"--Mark Morrison
  10. Being a Rockford native I feel I must chime in on this important matter. Beef-A-Roo, in my opinion, is overpriced and bland. Arby's gives you better food and more of it to boot. Tom and Jerry's? Please, everyone knows Uncle Nick's is where its at. A Rockford institution that's been around way longer than Tom and Jerry's. Oscar's has good beer and nice scenary. It gets my vote.
  11. I'm waiting for the "DCI-is-evil" part of this thread to start.
  12. I believe it was 1995. I'm almost positive he was working with the Regiment that year as well helping with design. Anyone want to check my facts on this?
  13. I've been listening to '93 and '94 for a few days now and I can't seem to figure out if they were on 2 valves or 3. Can anyone help me out here? Also, just wanted to note that these are two of the COOLEST shows ever. I can't decide which one I like better.
  14. I always aimed for just slightly ahead of the middle. Not too close to the driver's radio, and too far back where you felt every bump in the road. How bout you?
  15. Chickenhawk is still around? SWEET! Is he going to be driving at all this year?
  16. Don't forget to mention Capital Sound. I wish I could have gone up there but grad school is more important, for the next few weeks anyways.
  17. How about open source CMS? Anyone familiar with this term and what hosting companies allow for this?
  18. I'm looking for around 20 GBs (at most) and some decent tech support. I also want to be able to transfer my html files rather easily to their server. Network Solutions makes you jump through hoops and even then they want you to use their software to design your site. Their response to my questions are, "Some designers do use Dreamweaver and Frontpage, but our software offers the most versatility and range for building your own site, plus its only $1.99 more a month. How could you pass up a deal like that?" So, I just want a relatively small space where I can upgrade to an SSL Certificate if need be, and have decent customer service. Does that narrow it down?
