  1. When was this? Scouts played one of his songs in '07. As well as Cascades in '05. As did the Raiders in '00, who also played Metallica in '99 and and did a whole show on Queen in '94. I'm sure Led Zeppelin's expensive and difficult to arrange, but they're certainly not banned! QUICK NOTE: I just wanted to add that creating this multi-quote was a very tedious process, and someone on the tech team should fool around with the board settings and develop an easier way to do it. Just a suggestion from the common user.
  2. As wrong as this may sound, it's never a bad thing for a corps to take a year off if it means they will come back stronger. Take your time.
  3. I didn't get any e-mail and my card hasn't been charged. Should I call DCI and see what's up?
  4. Well in this case, it's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean think about it. Sure it would be nice to have Americanos back, but these ideas should be saved for areas that have no corps at all. I mean it's Wisconsin, you've got about six World Class corps and two other Open Class ones in or near your area, and it's not like Cap Soud doesn't have any spots left over! Fill out the corps that have holes and get them up to 150, and if there are still kids that want to march THEN start a new corps or bring back an old one. I'm not against DCI growing in fact I'm actually for it, but I don't want to see another 30- member corps out there that's just going to fall apart or plain suck (the lowest score at Bloomington this year was just short of 70, so no corps that currently exist fall into that category).
  5. For me, it's always been about the show. I don't want to do a boring or overused show (like selections from a Broadway musical), I want something fresh and original. I know that because of all the changes that happen it's almost impossible to choose a corps solely based on this, but it would be nice if more corps would at least release the names of the shows they're currently planning a month in advance. Doesn't seem to hurt the corps that actually do that, so why not?
  6. I didn't get an e-mail like the OP did. Is that a bad sign or should I be patient?
  7. Narration - No more than 2 minutes of speech per show altogether, and DCI has to proofread all "scripts" beforehand. Also, nobody in the corps can do just talking, they also have to play an instrument and can't be in the color guard. (using the actors in Cadets 08 as an example of how to do it wrong, even though they weren't the ones speaking it just ###### me off) Synthesizers - No solos, that's it. (I work with a marching band that uses one and it doesn't take anything away from the rest of the group as long as that rule's in place) How's that?
  8. The keyword is almost. Obviously no one can come close to SCV, but they were better than a few of the World Class corps I saw.
  9. I just saw a video of the Raiders from this past season (not going to say where, but it's legal) and happened to notice the cymbal line. Not only are they big for the size of the corps (about 60 total members to 5 cymbals), but they totally kick ###! I know for a fact that this was the first year the Raiders ever had a plate line, and that just makes it more amazing! First year out and they're almost as musical and eye-catching as SCV's plates! I really hope these guys stick around and bring us just as much excitement next year, GO RAIDERS!!!!!
  10. I hate synthesizers as much as anyone else on DCP (apparently more after reading some of this thread), but it's irreversible now, just like amplification. Instead, what we should do is make a new organization for the corps that feel this way, stopping the drum corps "evolution" at amplification and not allowing any new changes. After all, didn't DCI start only because they didn't like what was being done before? History repeats itself, people.
  11. Not necessary, the synths have a built-in blinking metronome. Done! (read my sig and spread the word)
  12. When they win the Spirit of Disney Award, I get to say I called it.
  13. Well, nothing bad about that I guess. But I was really looking forward to Clue... Hopefully now that the idea's out there another corps will use it. Or better yet, Vanguard Cadets 2010! (On that note, I think SCVC's program will win them another championship or at least Spirit of Disney)
  14. Sounds like Impulse is putting out a sports drumline! (though it's weird that they would play at a non-Lakers game)
  15. I just wanted to say that their uniform colors are really cool, unlike anything else in DCI. And like Legends, they'll be successful because they've already been at it already for quite a while and most likely have all the resources they need to keep growing. Well, the more the merrier! Can't wait to see them duke it out with Magic of Mobile!!!
  16. So everyone's excited about Alaskan Heat, but do you think they can win? Maybe they can at least give Brand X a run for their money...
  17. That seems more like a BD-type of show to me, but I'm VERY eager to see how SCV's gonna do this!
  18. I'm glad the South's getting some more corps with Gasparilla, Magic of Mobile, and now these guys, but it loos like Mempho's gonna have to do some more competitive recruiting! (Teal might too if they stay Open Class for too long)
  19. I'm surprised no one said this: A POWER STRIP!!!!! You're kid's gonna have an iPod and a phone on tour (I also brought a Nintendo DS), and with everyone bringing their own electronics it's necessary to make new plugs.
  20. Phantom Regiment - drum majors keep the capes, the rest of the corps keep switching out the baldrics and gauntlets every year like you've been doing but never go back to the original black ones. Blue Devils - fit for this show, but I'm curious as to how the drop-sashes would look on the 07 uniform (they're awkward, but unique and I like that). SCV - essentially the same concept as last year made more modern. no comment because the changes are that insignificant to me. Blue Stars - losing the helmets was a questionable move at first (especially considering the show theme), but the shako grew on me very quick. Blue Knights - not a fan of the new design, but I like the fact that they don't look like the Raiders anymore (btw the Raiders had that uniform first). Glassmen - why can't the triangle ever be gold like on their logo? Madison Scouts - I agree that the uneven bottom is awkward, but I love this uniform anyway. this would be a good time for them to finally settle on a design for more than one year. Crossmen - fit for the show, but absolutely hate it. Pacific Crest - okay they didn't change their uniforms this year, but that's exactly the problem. At least go back to white pants! How are you supposed to represent SoCal, much less the Pacific, in all black!?! SCVC - not bothered by the fact that there's no red, more that there's no contrast at all. Then again, that's what makes this uniform better than that of the big corps. Citations - absolutely love this uniform, but the logo on the front looks like it was made in MS Paint. Spokane Thunder - similar to BD: works great with the show, wouldn't make sense to keep it any longer. Revolution - get rid of the broach, it was fine before! Memphis Sound - make the diamond smaller, it was fine before! Spartans - like it as much as the old uniforms. The change was necessary to reflect the the fact that this wasn't the same corps that won in 2007. Legends - VK - one of my favorites of the year! This is the only show-specific uniform I would make permanent (at least the top hat and converses).
  21. I forgot to say this, so sorry to all the people who hate double-posting. I'm all for arena drum corps in fact I'm very enthusiastic about it, but doesn't this idea already kind of exist as WGI? And I don't really like the idea of SDCA having an larger outdoor division, it just seems obsolete and like the start of something unoriginal that's going to fail. Besides, if it has 30+ brass it's not really a "small" drum corps. In fact, with only 30 it's already bigger than about 1/3 of the corps that compete in DCI. I also just noticed on the website that it says SDCA will not interfere with DCI or DCA, although they are scheduled to have shows on DCI's finals week. Doesn't that seem really weird? Again, I absolutely adore the idea of arena drum corps. But it should stay exclusively indoors, should only consist of corps "too small for the football field", and should not run through the summer. That's all.
  22. It's quite magical that they're getting such good staff for a corps that was just announced to exist only a couple of months ago.
  23. Despite what's going on, the Raiders are cutting their fees in HALF this year. I don't know how it will work, but we can be sure that they have thought about this much more than we have and that somehow it will work.
  24. I've been paying attention to this for quite a while myself. However, it's only in the midwest right now. I sent an e-mail to Mr. Ferrara a while back and he told me it would take a few years to spread it over to the east. I'm looking forward to that day, but until then I'm focused on the outdoor scene.
