Seems like Jupiter got a "break" with PRs visual being so bad. If the visual was up in the top 4 with their percussion and the brass was still 7th, then those horns would be gone next year or sooner depending on the contract requirements. Justified or not.

I agree that it is not set but there is a good seperation after the Coats currently. We can't have everyone because we KNOW the corps who don't make semis have weaker designs, THEY know they have weaker designs. This seems like the right size group to compare.

This thread seems like a lot of concern about a theme. That seems like primarily a visual issue which has already been their challenge even with their rise to the top. I would be more concerned that their brass is not scoring at the elite level that it has in recent years. They have gotten away with questionable visuals but they could always count on that brass score bumping them up. I'm sure the brass staff is not questioning how they are going to get the Image theme across better at the next show.

It seems to me if wci exists it has recently done a great disservice to the #4 West Coast corps (excluding special one-year guests and including Troop and BK). We all know what ballpark BD, SCV and BK are in each year but look at the last two years for #4. The Academy was ranked as high as 10th before all of the corps competed together in 2007. They finished 13th and then a big drop in 2008. PC was 12th early in 2008, finished 17th and looks like a drop in 2009. Right now Troopers are 12th. "If" that is inflated and they finish 3 or more spots lower, does that have a negative effect on their future? This is not scientific and I’m too lazy to look back further than two years. My point, if I have one, is: Why would East and Midwest people be mad about wci? It seems like more of a problem for the West Coast 12th place hopefuls that it affects than those who feel slighted by it EARLY season from afar. So, rise up left-coaster, embrace and complain about wci!!!

Are you talking about the On Demand or just the Spotlight videos? I don't even have the Fairfield and Michigan City options on the On Demand tab anymore.

WOW, that may be the most childish response I have ever seen (and there have been some whoopers on here) to a thoughtful, detailed but critical response. You are probably too emotional about your corps to post arguements on a forum.

Not a honk of either corps but I voted Colts by more than a point. It's not a very earth shattering reason. There's lots of hype for both corps but BOTH corps look about the same as last year to me. I didn't think Troopers were ever within 2 points of Colts (checked: 1.5 in one of 10 shows, all the rest more than 2) last year so I am not expecting them to be within 1 this year. I am limited in my opinion by only seeing them on video, maybe my opinion will change of one or both in person.

Zero from the guard judge. Your highest possible score would be 90 and that's not even accounting for the hit you would take from visual judges.

It's very good but sandwiched between two of my favorite PR shows, it didn't have a chance with me.

I think there is more involved than just respect; there is also recognition. We probably all respect both the third trumpet of the Dallas Symphony and the principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic. They probably work equally hard and entertain audiences of equal size. BUT, Philip Smith is given much more accolades and is recognized worldwide. There is a different level of competition and success with the top corps just as there is with the top symphonies or championship sports teams. We can respect all who work hard but there is always going to be more recognition for those who achieve at the highest levels.

Carolina Crown is not my favorite corps but I REALLY like their show this year. At this point in the season, they probably are my “hope they win” corps. Their fans in past years have been labeled as some of the biggest HONKS but I have just seen them as enthusiastic about their own achievement and always respectful of their competition. This week that has changed. You are now embarrassing your staff and the kids in your corps. I have seen numerous attempts to tear down their competition in order to legitimize their own success. Brag on your corps, tell us all of the outstanding moments in your show, discuss your growth in captions that are scoring high but leave the criticism of the top marching groups in the world to the judging panels. Crown is now in rarified air, all of their competition is VERY good and the differences at this level are almost impossible to detect except by “highly skilled professionals.” I love what is happening on the field, please don’t push me away with forum opinions.

The fans of BOTH Crown and Cadets have certainly not lived up to the high standards that their corps have produced on the field tonight and off the field for years. If there are any poor little marching members reading this, I’m sure they are not as pained by insults from competitor’s fans as they are by their own fans damage to the image they work and sweat so hard for.

Yay for capes! We were all told the they would count against them visually when we loved them in the 2007 pre-show and wanted them for part of the show BUT the Blue Devils had those "pants capes" last year and they didn't seem to suffer with the judges. When I saw pictures this week of the Scouts long sashes waving around, I wondered if BD (or XMENs pre-show) started a new trend. Maybe judges don't think the same anymore. After all, we don't see flags made out of stiff fabric and that is visual beautiful.
