  1. Hello All, This is John Dunnam, Executive Director of Magic of Mobile. There has ben some activity from the Board of Directors and myself. I would now like this chance to explain alot. There was alot of things that went into the folding of Magic of Mobile. We did have 501©3 Status. We were an umbrealla organization from another 501©3. Money was an issue, and we had issues within the administration and within the regular staff. I know there are alot of rumors floating around also. But let me be the first to say that, in my actions as Executive Director, I regretably did not make the right choices; there fore Magic of Mobile folded. I did hire a world class staff, and to the people that was on the staff, it was damaging to their professional circles, and I do apologize for that. In that, Magic is a tarnished name no matter what you try to do to fix it. Magic of Mobile will not come back out. We are reevaluating the situation and we are seeing what will come of it. If we do decide to field, we will come out under a new name and will be waiting for DCI to announce us. This has been bad enough for everyone involved and personally, I am upset at the personal attacks that have been made. I know what I said about Mr. Golding was really unprofessional. I do apologize for any wrong doing I may have caused. I just want to put this all behind and move on. There is no use in beating a dead horse into the ground further than it already is. Yes, a Drum Corps did extend an invitation to learn under their Administrative Staff and I am very, very thankul for the opportunity. In the camp that I have already attended, I have learned alot of very valuable information. I was very impressed that the staff showed open arms and welcomed me in and are helping me in trying to possibly get a corps in Mobile. If anyone feels that they want more of an explanation, please contact me first. magicdrumcorps@yahoo.com Keep it off the boards. Sincerely, John Dunnam Executive Director Mobile's Drum Corps
  2. Another Kick Butt concept would be the following: Sins to Sainthood. March of the Dragonmasters - Robert Jager On an American Spiritual - David Holsinger Where The Blackhawk Soars - Robert W. Smith Burnin' up - Featuring the Music from "Backdraft"
  3. Ummm lets see... Music From Batman Begins and The Dark Knight - Awesome Music - Spirit Played Corynorhinus and Myotis in 2008, but with an expanded version written the right way i think it could be very moving and beautiful music. Dark music. New Day Rising - Symphony No. 1 - Steven Reineke - AWESOME MUSIC - just watch the ragtime sections as to not get a dated feel to the music. Music from August Rush. Boston Crusaders didnt do the music justice IMO. No offense but this could be done very very good. 30 Seconds To Mars - The Kill - AWESOME Katy Perry - Hot N Cold - Encore Tune - AWESOME!!!
  4. Bluecoats look like they are coming in prepared with their game faces on. looks intense and challenging. Cant wait to see this show in Lucas Oil Stadium!!!!
  5. I went to High School at McAdory, which is in Jefferson County, Alabama. Jefferson Co. Is the biggest school system in the state of Alabama with 66 public schools alone. Majority of them are high schools with football teams. If i am not mistaken all of the High Schools in Jefferson County all had Band Programs. We had the same uniforms ever since I started middle school. the year after I graduated - 2001, The Senator help the band purchase new uniforms. As for instrument repair, We had a marching baritone, that had more tape on it than the drummer's sticks. it didn't get replaced till after I graduated. I would have loved to be able to be in a school that did BOA/MFA. Anything we played in Marching band was 60's / 70's rock. We went out on a limb my junior year and played an all jazz show. it was well received by the audience. but we weren't in an area that had ANY BOA Bands. Our Director didn't like to challenge us during Marching Band cause it was soley for the purpose of entertainment for the football crowds. Alabama is all about some football. Now our concert programs were always very challenging. I enjoyed concert season. We did alot of Holsinger, R. W. Smith, King, Padillia, Holst, Dvorak, and a few others. We always did really well and went on a Spring trip. We never marched at a competition outside of the tri county area. BOA - if it stays financially sound, would be a great thing to bring into Alabama. Alot of the bands would become better and would make bands alot more important in this state due to the fact that budgets are always being cut due to proration and the music/arts depts. are always the first thing to go. I now live in Mobile Co. which is the State's 2nd largets school system. It is alot different down here seeing as Mobile has Mardi Gras. Bands get Paid by the societies to march in their parades. booster programs are strong but with one of the weakest economys in Alabama right now due to a lack of landing deals that the government screwed up. Bands would be better if BOA was in Alabama, Mobile has some of the LARGEST Bands in Alabama. MGM Marches around 125 musical instruments, with a guard and dance line. Baker HS, Also has a huge program topping over the 100+ mark. Murphy High School has a huge band program and are internationally known. They just went to Austrailia. All in all. If BOA/DCI/WGI merge. i see it as a positive. it could help the Corps out by being able to recruit more and grow membership and alumni. it could help the HS Band programs out by giving them a chance to excell in something that obiviously is a big draw to students here, being in marching programs. Gives them the chance to grow as students but as individuals, and gives them the chance to be prepared for a Drum Corps Audition.

  19. From the Executive Corps Director of Magic of Mobile Monday, November 3, 2008 It is with great regret that I inform you that, Magic of Mobile will not be fielding a corps for the 2009 season. Magic of Mobile will continue to proceed with starting up the drum corps, But regretfully will not be touring in 2009. There were alot of factors that went into this decision and will not be made public. Magic of Mobile will continue to build and gain stability within the organization. We will be reorganizing the organization and making sure that everything will be carried out to the best of the abilities of the Board of Directors. Magic of Mobile still has all intents on fielding a Corps when it is the right time within the Organization to field a corps. Thank you to all of the people that have been supportive of Magic of Mobile over the past months.
