  1. As many former marchers as we have on DCP I find it ironic that people are complaining about the heat while WATCHING the performances. If we can stick out through several days of rehearsal in Texas I am fully confident that you'll survive a few hours on your rear ends.
  2. Not as experienced as the psychologist and the behavior analyst, but as a psychology undergrad I'd like to chip in here. I don't find that drum corps kids operate on a level as rudimentary as operant conditioning in their learning process. For most of the kids I march with as well as myself, the motivation is internal rather than reliant on the staff. In my experience the staff neither heavily reinforced or punished us; they merely gave us the information and we processed it with the drive to be a better corps. I may be wrong but this seems like the more mature approach to instruction, especially at the DC level.
  3. It seems like the only way you could assume Madison would overtake Troop this year would be because of the big names they've hired. I think the Troopers are a great example of an amazing team coming together to build a great corps, but they still had to build it. It didn't happen in one year, or even two. If I had to bet, I would put my money with a corps that has had a team working together for the 4th year in a row over one that's revamping a majority of the staff. Regardless, fighting for finals spots is much more interesting to watch than having a lock for a month.
  4. More than likely the audition book you get after registration is a collection of basic brass technique exercises: lip slurs, articulations and the like. When I auditioned you selected your own etudes to play for them.
  5. I believe you pay a one time registration fee then you pay for each camp after that.
  6. Usually the corps busses the members from Denver International to avoid having to pay to fly into Wyoming. Tickets to DIA can run as low as $99 if you order far enough in advance
  7. It's true, I talked to a Cadet age-out about this switch. Scissor leg can cause some harsh injuries if you don't pull off every direction change perfectly. Let's be honest, not even the Cadets can be perfect at 500 bpm or whatever tempos they reach these days.
  8. Quite a bit of Troop's staff from last year, let's see what it'll do for them.
  9. I would definitely recommend a higher SPF if you're targeting the drum corps activity. I eventually gave it up for DCT's higher SPF to protect my lips on sunny days.
  10. Sir I assure you I've scanned the list of corps and there isn't one that rhymes wih...oh I see what you're saying.
  11. Well I would assume these people would be signed up with the Cadets email list, which this was sent out to. So yes, I would say they have.
  12. Yep, gone in a few days here. I'll consider this my official goodbye to DCP, hope to see you on the road and whatnot.
  13. "Show design" seems a bit broad...what specifically is holding them back?
  14. Wait so...the schedule they have up is a lie?
  15. I noticed something a little different in the San Antonio schedule. Instead of the usual stack the popular corps towards the end schedule they seem to be going in reverse alphabetical order. I don't know if this is different from usual but I kind of liked the distribution. http://www.dci.org/schedule/detail.cfm?eve...5d-624b3c5f144a
  16. I believe the man said Victory, victory it shall be.
  17. Ah Guidry...almost got to meet you at the last Crossmen camp. =\ You have my vote as DCI finals announcer.
  18. Well when you have The Cadets and WSS you can't really go wrong. Personally I'd like to see some singing happening in this show, but regardless the Cadets won't disappoint.
  19. What exactly do you mean by improving social media footprint? I assume there's something more than just having a myspace page involved, could you explain a little more?
  20. I think this could be a good time to point out that the cases of Swine Flu in San Antonio weren't actually in San Antonio but in the Guadalupe county area north of the city closer to New Braunfels. As far as I've heard none of the schools in the metropolitan San Antonio area have closed. Also following Puppet's point, unless you've been afraid to go out in public every time you didn't have a normal flu vaccination I don't see why you would get freaked out now...it's a flu not the bubonic plague.
  21. It's actually spread through liquid contact which can technically travel through the air, but it's not an airborne virus.
  22. Well the topic was about the Cadets and voice...so I don't see what wrong with the discussion. But still I agree, I think Lenny will be an awesome show regardless.
  23. Well IMO the art of drum corps comes from how something is spoken through movement and music, not spoken by...speech? The Cadets program last year felt like they were reading a book to us with some background music coming from the corps. I was a fan of how they integrated the voice with the show in '07 but I didn't see any of that in '08. No integration, just a couch interview with some music and drill going on around it.
  24. You really don't get much sicker than a normal flu, as I've said the kids from my school who had it ran the normal one week or so course. Now people run away from me when I tell them what school I go to :(
