  1. Perhaps Gershwin's "An American in Paris"?
  2. People would have noticed what the front was doing. Not that what the tenors were doing wasn't cool, just too bad that the two happened at the same time.
  3. Unless it has changed, I'm fairly certain Roman Blenski doesn't allow guys in the guard at Pioneer.
  4. Roman has the hat tattooed on his wrist. Its all over the truck. Its not going away. Also, $
  5. I hate when people get all "if you haven't got anything nice to say". We have to acknowledge reality and approach the fact that Pioneer has been in the bottom year after year. If we keep ignoring this and shrugging it off, it will take until we have a handful of Open Class corps at quarterfinals this season to provide the reality check to Roman and the administration surrounding him. The fact of the matter is that this drum corps is part of a competitive organization. Part of being in this circuit is to actually be competitive. You can be competitive and still have the summer be about the experience. You want these young adults to perform at a world class level, you have to use a world class program, a world class staff, world class instruments, transportation etc.The philosophy can't be trying to make what worked in 1990s Division II work in 2011 World Class. It simply won't cut it. The staff has to be just as responsible as they expect the members to be, from the teaching staff up to the Roman, and they have to remember that they are there for the purpose of educating the members on the field and providing them with the tools to be a competitive member of DCI. If I make one small suggestion, don't have your banquet the night before quarterfinals, I get the whole wanting everyone to be there thing, but there are plenty of options to explore, so as to provide the best focus and energy for both the members and the staff. Sometimes you just have to call it like it is and address it. I would love to see this organization be competitive on the field and provide a complete World Class experience to their members. I haven't completely read the recent staff announcements for Pioneer this season, but I hope they address these things and have a successful season.
  6. Touching on a couple things... You publish your repertoire and you play no RECOGNISABLE songs from it Heaven forbid that someone decides to sample anything but the main portion of a piece. See: "Amen Break" The fans are in the stands complaining that they have to wait for an “exciting” corps……..And they are at the World Finals!!! It's because those 'fans' that are complaining are probably old codgers like you that #### and moan about how much they hate modern drum corps but still show up year after year.
  7. I think this is the most important post in this thread. There isn't a lick of official information, and we are ready to riot and picket things. For all we know the OP could have been making stuff up to troll this entire board.
  8. I find it odd that people wouldn't want to see where their money goes. Edit: Also, would you sponsor someone in a corps that used woodwinds, and never see them perform? That strikes me almost as rude.
  9. I love this message board. We're depriving corps of money they need to get down the road and make it more expensive for kids to do this activity, all because we dislike new things that some corps directors want to experiment with. Given the opportunity I think woodwinds could be tastefully done, but this thread isn't about if they should be allowed. Can't we just sit back and enjoy what everyone on the field is trying to show-- what they put all of their work into? That experience is not going to be tainted by another instrument being experimented with, and if you want to make it harder to for kids to afford that experience, congrats on putting an effort into killing this activity. I'm reading people excited at the thought of 7k less people watching finals. That is sickening. Support the kids that keep your precious activity alive. Without members, there aren't shows. This is about as sickening as when people Booed the Cadets because they didn't like their show. Shame on them...those guys worked incredibly hard and performed the crap out of their show, and they booed their efforts because you didn't like the show their staff design.
  10. I would just like to say one of the people listed on staff is someone I'm marching with this summer. As in, he hasn't aged out yet. I'll talk to him some. I know the kid who claims to be the director too. I don't buy this at all.
  11. http://www.thonline.com/article.cfm?id=273311 ....from the box. Article relevant to entire topic though.
  12. Yes, because everyone knows I have a problem with people saying nice things about Spirit. Lighten up. It was a joke. I didn't say there was anything wrong with it (like you assumed), consider it a compliment, my way of pointing out a temporary departure from DCP's usual cranky types (case in point your post). "Sheesh "
  13. Man...it sounds like we're all about to hold hands and sing Kum ba yah.
  14. Truth. I did a few years there, and it was a life changing experience indeed. The fact that they are willing to take players of so many different skill levels and bring them up to speed while still moving forward with everything else, shows how much focus this corps continues to have with actually making the summer about growth and learning and not just a score at the end of the season. The corps can prepare you for so many aspirations you might have in life as a young musician.
  15. That would mean I would have to get cut too right? Badum...tssssss!
  16. Bill Miller's is going to hate this. Edit: After further review, I didn't realize how many of them there were. My only experience seeing a Bill Miller BBQ was at the dome. Funny how that happens.
  17. Old man, Does a required work outfit (that provides say...a uniform look?) have to be made out of wool, and smell like death to be a uniform? About every marching member today has unmeasurable pride behind those uniforms. Way to insult every single one of them.
