As much as I HATE J.Bieber music or Miley S. . If the show is for the paying audiance why can't the retreat be about the members ( Fun / Party ) after all it is about them, at least at that point. I remember hating those long boreing, award for everything possible ( Kinda like DCA ). retreats. Just a thought.

I don't think it necessarily matters as long as the effect is achieved -

Minneapolis Corps Directors Meeting
GUARDLING replied to BRASSO's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I hear ya!!!! I bet we talk about it here more than they do in meetings.....lol...either way I would almost bet that big change will happen if not in 2011 withing the next 3 years. I think Drum Corps as we know it will change , maybe not to the G7 vision but certainly different then we are used to. -
Slight difference I think if any.....I think the only time you would see a switch is in a case that on any given night it could have switched any way ( In other words corps close to begin with.)
-
I do think there is a clear diffference from top 5 to whoever is 10-12...HArd to hide when you are good or not quite as good
-
You may not but people being judged do care But I get ya .....I agree there can be some bias but also you have to look at show dynamics. that can play into it alot....who you are up against or not
-
also Im sure they dont want to win merely because the best or I should say the others are gone

Can your World Class Show win Open Class
GUARDLING replied to Tom Brace's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Hi Ed You are right in many things you said and don't say you're sorry for how you feel. I would hope that no matter what an opinion is that everyones opinion is vailid . I know it doesn't seem like that at times. I wasn't disagreeing with you at all. If it weren't for those corps there would be no Cadets, Cavies, BD and so on. Somtimes I wish kids would stay in those corps and make them the NEW big guys. Anyway it was only the word majority I kind of smerked at ( Sorry ) only because when people talk sometimes they validate themselves with support of others by saying the majority...ok theres my soap box hehehehehe sorry. It really wasn't important at all just a tiny observation heheheh sorry . -

I agree with everything you say but I wonder why ( and it happens alot ) why do people speak for " The majority" or even know what that is....lol...sorry I do agree but just wondered -
Props and the scoring advantage...
GUARDLING replied to Phantombari1's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Props are nothing new DCI or DCA. WOW remember cadets the western year in the 90s sometime they were like a dozen sky scrapers..lol I think drill will move more to staging in the future and some will still chose to have a traditional drill which all of it is cool...variety -
Phantom Regiment and Boston
GUARDLING replied to Abbevillekid26's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
gezzzzz all the person said was that he thought Boston "MAY" jump over to the G7 if it was offered. I don't think they said for sure but at any rate, given the chance I bet there would have been others interested that are just not saying. I don't think its going to fly but I never did and I think the initial power point that was leaked was just an extreme vision that was going to be used as a bargining tool. THAT"S IT -

Drum corps ties do seem to go deeper than outside the activity jobs. If we stay with a corps or end up in may places the ties still seem to be there and in many cases inside information. Thats the difference in the Drum Corps World. I know for me I still know inside information on a corps I marched with over 30 years ago. I think that's whats so unique about this activity. -

When you have an activity that is competition driven you will , and have always had " EGO DRIVEN " situations and people. The good and bad of it. All you have to do is read it on most of the DCP threads , including the present and the historical threads to see that. There, and in all aspects of life, business as well as past time activities lines that get crossed between what drives people. EGO leading to success, the need for recogintion which drives people to be the best at all costs, or the group activity that as a mass of people are led by dynamic personalities to reach a place of success or recognition never dreamed of by the individual. Ok youre problbly saying "what the hell did they just say"....haha sorry it's the Psychologist in me. Can you tell maybe I work in the Psych. field exactly on this subject. SORRY. Bottom line, admit or not we are in an activity that people crave many things, friendship, brotherhood, the lime light, that standing O, the spot light, recognition, MANY things, some good some you have to be careful of. SO, WHEW , sorry, change whatever, go back to whatever, and you see people are just people. People are fairly predictable......................................Ok Im done. Now how many out there said good?.....lol Thanks for letting me ramble a bit. -

Only to have to next set of toxic personalities ,as you call it, take over probably within 20 seconds. Kind of like Hockey Dad said. It doesn't take long -

and even if Bucs were doing something from DCI so what? DCI copies alot of band programs and winter guard shows. At least bucs arent rehashing alot of the same ole same ole that others do. How many corps in DCA have rehashed the same ole tired music, how many times can we rehash a patriotic show, how many shows still try to fit in a signature piece of music. To each his own. BUT DONT apologize for being good. Funny how people are for you 1st win out everyones for you 2nd time WOW what a run, after that people start to hate just because you can maintain a degree of excellence. Corps may have stepped up their game this year and may be better in some peoples opinion BUT that doesnt mean Bucs havent. Wanting someone else to win just because is crazy and a true winner wantes to beat Bucs at their best not just because its someone elses turn. Same argument as Blue Devils. And NO im not a member if Bucs and never have been...lol Full Edit Quick Edit -
