  1. From a BK alumni newsletter: We are playing the music of Igor Stravinsky... specifically the legendary ballet "The Firebird". Keeping with our intention of playing music that is memorable, we plan on having a POWERFUL presentation of the Firebird with a unique twist... we will feature a sci-fi take on the music featuring otherworldly beings and their ultimate quest for community. Interesting huh?? I'm certainly interested! Thoughts?
  2. Sorry...posted a pic of BK's from Facebook and then saw it was already posted. Ignore this post.
  3. I am really excited to see what BD does with this show. I think it could have classic BD written all over it. I'm not the most familiar with the source music, but it definitely has some passion to it. Regarding the props, I'm pretty sure they're using something white with 8 legs on the bottom. (see pic)
  4. I must say after reading Phantom's show synopsis and seeing the uniforms, I am even MORE excited for this year's show! I have a feeling it could be one those classics people will refer back to time and again (a la 1996, 2008, etc.).
  5. Haha.. that's funny. Always entertaining brining newbs to the show.
  6. Seriously! I was literally "wowing" out loud looking at them all during the pre-show chorale.
  7. Agreed. It is extremely difficult to watch. I almost got physically sick in the stands replaying what I saw in my head. I think it should ultimately be something the editors and Ryan decide. With the limited experience I have with editing, it wouldn't be extremely hard to replace the high cam with the semi's performance and any other necessary shots. As long as the tempos are very close and the cameras are calibrated the same way night to night, it shouldn't really be noticeable. Post production can do wonders.
  8. 2000 bar none. That show was incredible. Second place for me goes to 2005...way out there in many respects but still such a cool show to watch and listen to.
  9. We definitely "celebrated" our errors in my years marching, both corps. It was usually a mix of running to the fence, push ups, laps around the track, etc. Made you think twice before checking out again.
  10. I have to say this is definitely my favorite BK show ever. I was disappointed to not see them get scored higher but I REALLY enjoyed this show. I don't think BK has gotten that big of a crowd response in a long time. The changes and improvements to their approach to drum corps (Sully has a lot to do with that) certainly showed and are much appreciated by the fan base.
  11. Here are my top 3: Phantom: Wasn't too thrilled with this show at the beginning, but when I saw it live all I could do was smile and feel complete once the show was over. They are just sooooo good at expressing emotion in what they do. The music certainly helped. That soloist nailed it finals night. Probably my favorite show of the year. Madison: I started the season with low expectations but those kids SOLD that show come finals day. The confidence was there, the crowd ate it up, and they brought it home. Something so fulfilling about classic drum corps performed with sheer emotion and energy. Just purely entertaining. Cavies: I can't say that I still completely understand their show, but seeing it live at finals made me a believer. Their guard is INCREDIBLE. I spent more time watching them the second go around and the content of their show is ridiculous. Add to that their extremely high talent level and consistency and you get a seriously awesome spectacle. I thought the show was a bit cheesy the first time I saw it, but now I really respect its intricacies and intelligent design. Honorable mention: BD I wasn't sure how to feel about BD this year. The show had SO much going on I couldn't really grasp a whole lot. But all the recommendations to see it live and not just on the FN were legit. I saw it live and was BLOWN away. They were LOUD and the guard truly did their thing. I came to the conclusion that I like it (despite the cat on a piano part of the end of the show).
  12. Absolutely awesome. That kid is incredible. I almost broke down watching him try so hard to get off the field. He is the definition of what drum corps is all about. I hope he heals up fast.
