  1. There were 3 of us @ Betsy's bungalow in Concord during the 02 season. Rich Skare, me and Hollywood Mineer I think. Not much space in the "living room" to breathe let alone sleep three of us............... I know it doesn't sound like much but #### that place was tiny...........
  2. I graduated in 84. Our band director was into drum corps, just not as much as he was at his previous hs (Princess Anne HS, Va. Beach, VA. They wore SCV style tunics and all that in the late 70's) where he sent a few kids to 27th Lancers. From chatting with a few of the old timers around here, they (27) apparently sent staff to a few camps and all that. His hs marching bands were some of the top rated in the state of Virginia at the time due to the corps style he loved. Heck, my hs had one of the first pits in the beach, we used trombone cases as stands for the marching xylo and bells, lol! And we had heavy kelly green jackets w/unadorned pith helmets (GO SCRUBBING BUBBLES!!!!!!!!) Something happened to the kids he sent (what, I'm not sure) and he just wasn't the same about it. He neither encouraged nor discouraged us. But we wore out his copies of DCI Finals vhs tapes from 76 - 84 for sure................ A couple of my friends went on to Crossmen and marched alongside Lee Rudnicki (Renegades President or something). Me, I never took my chance, but am grateful just the same to have participated with Renegades........
  3. I was going to respond, but I'll let this thread run its course............
  4. it's not going to happen anytime soon........ i'd like to think that DCA fans (not fans of any particular corps) could pressure those corps that vote for such a rule to explain the purpose of said rule................. what do i know? signed, a former east coaster not holding his breath
  5. awesome! I live three blocks from the Caltrain and that's about a 15 minute ride to the stop practically in front of the stadium.................. I am sooooo looking forward to this show!!!!!!!!!
  6. Amy. Sent her a post card and thanked her for putting up with three corps in the same hotel....... Don't think she would've gone too crazy just dealing with us alone, but you never know..............

  8. SWEET. So they're finally going for the Amish look that I suggested three years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P
  9. I was shocked to read the news yesterday and wish you all well and a speedy return to the field competition. I parked our truck behind y'alls truck at prelims in the downpour and had a chance to speak to a few members of your battery. I noticed that a majority of them were from my hometown and area in general (Va. Beach, VA) and that a few of them knew of my cousin who is the band director at Salem High School in the beach................ They're a great nucleus of percussionists and I look forward to seeing and talking to any members that will be at Rochester next year..........
  10. I remember standing in retreat block right behind the hornline when Brigs played that great great Roberta Flack tune...... am looking forward to hearing it again. GO BRIGS!!!!!!!
  11. Frank told that story to a few of us at a party a few months ago, like around the end of July.................. makes ya think..............................

  13. $2.59 10 minutes north of me. $2.70 in my neighborhood...........
  14. I used to, but I stopped this past March. So I drove the equipment truck for the corps this year and at the I&E venue I parked before the bridge to the convention center. I was asked to check and see how far behind the performers were where the keyboard ensembles were being judged. I huffed it up that bridge and back down quite a few times and I could feel the difference as I wasn't breathing hard or breaking a sweat at all................. I'm jus' sayin'..........
  15. I'm just sorry I missed it due to helping unload, reading script for and then helping load the pit back up. I bailed early..................... Sorry Lee..................
  16. a few renegades have been "coming down" with something too............
  17. I was the truck driver that got out and caught your parking lot jam. You guys were great and have a great sound. Yes, a few of your members looked young. So what. You've got a great core to start from and I am looking forward to seeing you down the road through the years.............
  18. thank you. i missed out on the original post, but the above quote applies to EVERYTHING we do in real life and in drum corps....... see you roaming the hotel seeking chaos, christine!
  19. I'm hoping Stanford and their newly refurbished stadium and field............. there's plenty of warm up space around the whole campus and it's just a flat out beautiful area............. plus I live three blocks from the train station that runs and stops almost directly in front of Stanford Stadium...............

  21. as soon as I get home from loading the semitrailer @ SCV hall tonight, I guess I can break out the garment bag and start thinking about packing........... the best part of this week is that I only work Tuesday, and that's a half day before we (my department) head off to an "off-site" team build (ie. drink beer and talk)................ than I catch the flight after midnight.........
