  1. Being Scottish I wear a kilt too. And marched Kilties '75. Do you all know how tough you have to be to wear a kilt? They don't hand them out to wooses. If you haven't worn a kilt, I'd say you weren't tough enough. Now excuse me, I have to go take my rollers out.
  2. Holy cow--does calamity Jane come with air bags?? Anything else happen to her? I'm going to Indy and don't want to get in her way! But really--bully for her!!!
  3. Seems to me after viewing the 4 billion posts to this topic that the big picture here is that both sides have redeeming and concrete arguments for using and not using synths. So how to handle? Whelp, we can vote on it, yes/no cut and dried, or we have both. Having both would or MIGHT mean an outlet separate from current channels. Somewhere between WGI and DCI.....maybe ECI? American and National league? DH rule? Too much hassle? Probably. But big questions need big answers and need go to people that can show foresight and make the big decision. I know this is painfully obvious to all but sometimes the situation requires a hard reset. I love synths, and I love Drum Corp. Now what do I do??
  4. Hi Guys, Yep that's Nisei, 1972, State St parade, Chicago, IL--I believe it was the Cinco de Mayo celebration. (check the war of the world street lights, gone now) Technically, we were the Ambassadors but really it is the B corp in A corp dress--The Nisei Envoys, which Puppet touched on by accident! The Ambassadors had folded as we knew them but really everyone just left (many joined the DP Vanguard, 7th at DCI in '72, great show) and we mutants became the A corp by default. Welcome to hell, here's your accordion. About three months after this photo, we marched a parade in the rain, got soaked, and put the unis on the truck and they promptly expired of mildew. Those were quality unis from the day, can't get that any more. They then took us for new unis at either Sears or K-Mart and we ended up with purple polyester pants and white short sleeved shirts. Purple berets. It was then that I decided to follow suit and join the DP Vanguard for the '73 season. That's me on the right stinking the place up playing snare. I didn't like snare. One drum, kinda' boring. Played trips the following three years. They say the beginning is most important--this was mine. T
  5. I bet they do!! I fully understand your thought. Is it not amazing how certain events and activities that we choose in our youth follow and shape us as the years skip by? I still have my complete set of tenor sticks from '75, they will probably end up in some museum in Indiana.......T
  6. R, Yes they can be, nothing etched in stone--the dot would be a 16th note and diddles 32nd so no second diddle after the 16th. I suppose you could diddle your 7 and 3/8's but that's an entirely different industry. Swiss ratamacues and flam-taps no worries, they are the same. I can play only left handed Santa's though...........T
  7. Ya' know I tried that once and broke an ankle, what was I doing wrong?
  8. Hi Ray, Naa, you can start with an accent--and end with one too. When you listen to a snare line, they may say DuzzzzzzzzoTT, or simply zzzzzzzzzzzz Did I just get taken? T
  9. Well, I'm just back from sushi--loved the Dragon Roll--anyone figure out who these lady-killers are? (California Roll, isn't that a roll that begins with a diddle and not a tap?) T
  10. Tarted up mall slut---that's some funny s*** hahaa!! Sorry....
  11. I can't see what's going on but the Phantom main gal in the red dress is the daughter of a friend of mine--does the show look cool or is that violin a bit too big??
  12. Point is: The next evolution in this activity will be the development of musical repertoire, solely for drum corps. This will be when drum corps is accepted into the fray along with jazz bands, chamber groups, wind ensembles, and orchestras. This is key to the longevity. If drum corps is to survive it must be accepted as an artform in the musical culture. Jazz bands, orchestras, etc. have a trait in common--from there inceptions they have remained relatively the same in appearance and instrumentation--the music changes and music groups expand and contract with genres and different composers but after 300 years an orchestra is still an orchestra. Drum Corp, however does not stay the same--good or bad, some would say it's still evolving and others would believe it's a manipulation ala Animal Farm changing rules every year to accommodate someone's particular interest. For Drum Corp to survive as an art form, should it be more consistent? Have I just gone off topic?
  13. Ok, I've stopped laughing long enough to type--you're right Duke, I do stink!!! I just can't figure out how you found out!! I'm going to send another photo, this time to Nancy to fulfill my noblesse oblige and it will have some more hints. So, I guess you guys stink too??
  14. I blew it again, didn't I? And yes Duke, I are a drummer...
  15. Hi All, I swear I sent the url!! Honest!! It's a pleasure to meet you all--I was a rookie in drum corp 4 times (lots of initiation) and it turns out I am a rookie 38 years later, here. I am beat. HAHA!!! Thanks for the mulligan---I will do better in the future. Mean time here's me in '74 (gee guess what corp) you can print and put up on the dart board but try not to hit gal next to me Cathy O'Connell--she was and is a major figure from the Des Plaines Vanguard and also marched Royal-Airs alum... Ok did that work? I will get this right if it takes all year.......
  16. Ok, guess what corps, where, and (about) when, clues are in the photo. Notice spectators looking at shiny red firetruck behind the corps........all that practice and lost to a siren....
  17. See the guy wearing polka dots in that last Cavalier post? I went to HS (Lane Tech, TD) with him AND we both went to HS with Rod Blagojevich (same school, same time) back in the '70's............also marched that stadium in Lynn and have recordings from there....what a fantastic memory...........
  18. DCI '74 right after finals, parking lot with Cathy from the DP Vanguard. Check out cool bus in background...
  19. I was at the last show Blue Stars beat Phantom, it was my final show as well. Congratulations Blue Stars.
  20. It would be interesting to add a little more (electric) bottom end, for balance and strength, could move some instrument ranges around to add/shift color more evenly along the frequency spectrum. I'd like to hear that on the field before I decided against it. Don't hurt me bass people....
  21. Tam is cool, but the kilt was cooler, especially on a windy day....
