2011 Prediction Thread!
NashvillePat replied to BOSMarcher's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Really,,, what show were you watching??? I have seen them all season... that is one difficult show! -
It all has to do with the sheets... design, demand, and execution become so much more important on WC sheets

Sure that wasn't Radiohead 5 Step? It's based on Brubeck's Take 5

Murfreesboro is central

You are in the worst shape of all if that bumper sticker says Tennessee Volunteers... which mine does!
-
Nah... you'll be fine... my grandmother grew up 30 miles north of Gadsden... it's country and red... but not backwoods redneck
-
I just don't see the Glass-Team doing that this year... maybe just my view of the shows this year.
-
B'ham is only 50 miles from Gadsden
-
Birmingham is fab!!!! 24 hour bars and discos!!! It's where Atlanta goes to party after hours these days, since they killed the fun in Atlanta!
-
Gadsden is a factory town... that has lost a lot of factories. It's not fab, but they do have a gay bar...LOL
-
yea... you don't have to do that anymore... Thank God!

Spirit of Atlanta 2011
NashvillePat replied to DrinkinOuttaCups's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
all I am going to say is that Spirit of Atlanta finally has the alumni behind them, now that they are Spirit of Atlanta again... I love the show and hate that they keep drawing the wrong spot in the groupings at big shows... Trooper's show doesn't even compare IMHO, especially in the visual categories. Unfortunately the team has drawn some bad spots so far at the big shows... Trooper's still have not beat Spirit when they are back to back... they have only beaten SOA when there are a couple of corps in between. Don't lose hope people... they have the show, the brass, and the best colorguard we have seen in years!!! I have full faith in our men and women this year to bring the corps back to where it is supposed to be!!!! GO SOA!!! -

while at the DCI Minnesota show a friend of mine said, "What is that dude on the stilts with the magic wand... is it the cockroach king?" we all had a good laugh! -

They gave us wristbands and told us to hold on to the ticket stub at DCI Minnesota if we need to go in and out... and this was a huge show, so I find it hard to believe that this policy has anything to do with DCI. -

I have this feeling you are in the minority on this issue. -

Can't speak about tonite... but SCV is already clean, clean, clean. The kids are doing what has been asked of them.... HOWEVER, we all agreed in our suite at DCI Minnesota that the show just isn't going to go anywhere. It's not the kids fault, they are performing what the design team gave them. The design just isn't there for them to make a run for the top. -
Crusaders and Music City?
NashvillePat replied to Calistar's topic in DCI Open Class Corps Discussions
Please nobody take this the wrong way.... I was at the preview and realize this was the first run in uniforms, etc.etc.etc. However, this is July 14th and there is not that much time left in the season to begin with. The horns sounded pretty good at first, and then they started marching.... You can hear the feet coming out of the bells of the horns big time and that's throughout the entire show. Many of the performers - horns, percussion, and colorguard looked like they were scared to death and the corps as a whole was very hesitant, which also probably had something to do with my read of the show. And I emphasize it was their first run in uniforms. I think I understand where they are trying to take this show.... I am just not sure it's going to make it to that place though. They are big and can be loud, but that will only get you so far. The colorguard book appears to still be missing at least 1/4 of the show. If it isn't, there needs to be some serious rethinking of the work. I don't get the whole hoola hoop looking section. It doesn't read at all. The best part of the entire show was the Tennessee Waltz section and while they gave me a nice ahhhhh moment. I think the work needs to be bigger, much. much, much bigger and maybe larger flags as well. I could be wrong, but that's my read. I want to emphasize that this was not in a stadium and was their first performance of the entire show, so I am sure I missed bunches with what was going on backfield and missed tons of the drill. My hope is that I didn't catch a lot and just kinda missed it all together, because I really do want them to do well this year. To me it seems like they have put way too many songs from way too many genres into this show and it was just very disconnected on this first read... emphasis first read... I have always been one who likes the KISS method for open class corps shows... Keep it simple stupid... It's what we did when I was still teaching and it usually paid off for the corps I was with. Like I said... I am hoping for big things from Music City and this was their first performance in uniform and in front of a crowd. I wish them nothing but the best! -

Music City is having their fan preview tomorrow in Franklin, TN at Freedom Middle School... I believe they leave Friday for the St. Louis area... don't rely on that though go check their site. -
New Concepts for Visual Effect
NashvillePat replied to danielray's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
i will chime in here... in winterguard you have a standard. Often that standard is broken by a unit and the judges do not have a clue how to score it... for example what constitutes a flag?... this question led to the use of backdrops, because a pole with fabric is a flag...thusly a backdrop could be made of two poles and a piece of fabric. What is a rifle? Thank God everybody agreed that an air blade is not a rifle, simply due to the fact it has so many holes and is very easy to catch no matter what kind of toss you do. The point is that there is always a standard in drum corps and winterguard because you need that uniformity to judge it. While new kinds of equipment may help with GE, you cannot score it when you are judging a guard's repertoire and their ability to handle their equipment.
