  1. Sounds interesting.... http://www.jerseysurf.org/articles/195/1/T...ream/Page1.html
  2. Sorry I have no interest in engaging you in a rhetorical debate on this forum. On a more positive note, it appears Bob Jacobs just announced the Surf show. If notthing else, he reacts promptly!
  3. And with the above statement Mr Jacobs has essentially ended the game of midlessly criticizing the "man". Part of the solution and not just amplifying (pun intended) the problem? Let's hope the curmudgeons of the Planet put the actions where their mouths have been. Well done. Now just when will you announce the 2010 Jersey Surf program Bob?
  4. Quasar? The guard that was an offshoot of St. Anthony's Band in 1977???
  5. So you have been ablke to eradicate all the outstanding bills that were Memphis Sound and come up with enough to buy all new stuff with a combination of dues, fundraising, grants, and donations? Impressive, if true. I am fairly certain all corps that are financially stable have some sort of outside source of income - bingo, a large Div 1 show they host, a band circuit, etc.
  6. Sounds great. Where is the money coming from to finance all of these purchases?
  7. Wow - looking at the Rome recap it looks like Teal Sound lost to 7th Regiment in GE Visual & Ensemble music. Although impressive for 7th in this their first year finishing in Open Class Finals, it does point to some major issues with Teal Sound. How does a corps who has twice as many members and a substantial move in period lose 40% of the captions to a corps that winds up 11th overall??? Of course Teal also beat Citations in Beverly by 4 points, spent the bulk of the Summer on the road, and then wound up losing the Bronze medal to them in August. Simple answer - staff did not prepare the members appropriately and the initial show design was a mess. I really hope for their sake they have made major staff changes for their inaugural season ion World Class. They could wind up losing to Seattle & Pioneer by 5 points or more, especially early on. They are going to have to do what Blue Stars did after they moved to WC and dump the staff that prevented them from doing well. Or, they could light the field on fire with pyrotechnics. quote name='TonyDanza007' date='Feb 19 2010, 10:37 PM' post='2745678'] Teal Sound had a 9 point jump from these consecutive shows early on in the season: 6/30/09 Drums Along the Mohawk - Rome, NY - 66.800 7/2/09 The Beanpot Invitational - Beverly, MA - 75.100
  8. What's your rational for combining the World & Open Class divisions? If it is soley to see an OC class corps pass WC corps then I think you are forgetting the rest of the OC and how ridiculous it is to compare the Blue Saints to the Blue Devils. Would it make you happy to see the bottom of the Open Class score in the 20's? ate='Feb 9 2010, 09:15 AM' post='2739117'] Instead of participating in this . . .because I already see the argument coming as to "you're a crusty dino and don't like progress besides what you did on the field", I'll make a counter-offer to the "other side": What if we could establish two divisions in DCI, and then had Saturday night as a direct competition between the two? First, no more World Class/ Open Class. Everyone can compete against each other in their "division". . . . so if BDB is better than Teal Sound and makes Finals, then that's just the way it goes. Regular shows during the season would be split, with groups in one division on first at a show, then the other, depending on show sponsors preference. Regionals could be alternating between what division performs first. Divisions as follows: 1. Anything goes. Woodwinds, light shows, step teams, rappers, whatever. You get to have your Finals Friday night in the Oil Can (since these shows will be designed for it), and compete against the other division directly on Saturday. 2. Brass only. Bb is fine, amps and synths can stay. This group gets to have their Finals on Friday night at wherever the Open Class Finals would be and meets the other group on Saturday at the Oil Can. Let say it falls like this: World Class "Open" Cadets Blue Devils Cascades Bluecoats Vanguard Spirit SCV Cadets Blue Devils B Cavaliers Teal Sound (etc) World Class Phantom Regiment Madison Scouts Citations Carolina Crown Colts Pioneer Boston Crusaders (etc) Both groups go head to head Saturday night in direct competition and a "World Champion" is still crowned.
  9. If they announced their board of directors, sponsors and booster club, then I would be impressed.
  10. Hopefully the staff has learned from their mistakes in 09 and will design a program that engages the audience as well as panders to the judging community. There is plenty of talent in that corps - just no thought whatsoever to being exciting or, god forbid, fun. Please do not saddle those kids with another show that spends 8.5 minutes on the contemplation of lint in the navel or the ops and downs of life on a see-saw! If you do I predict a medal, at least.

  12. Dear Cowtown, Seeing as you lob poorly intended grenades at the DCI rep and obliquely refer to yourself as an "industry expert", how about some transparency dude? We know who wrote the article you attmept to pick apart and from where he stands. Who the hell are you? What's the basis for your sniping? Come on bud, if you can't sell the bridge, you can always jump off it. (metaphorically speaking, of course)
  13. Surf is a full fledged voting member of the World Class and has been since the Fall of 2008. Teal Sound is not.
  14. No. Jersey Surf was granted full World Class status starting in 2009.... http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=4...4f-b8e6657c955c Teal Sound was granted access to the schedule. Big difference.
  15. I am fairly certain they plan on having instructional staff.

  17. Due to the generous contribution of a wealthy former Vice-Presidential candidate, the Alaskan Heat are thrilled to make a very special offer to their members for the upcoming January Camp.... The corps will send a dog sled to bring and provide free transportation to you and all of your friends to the next camp. Let us know what weekend works for you, we are very flexible. For every potential member you bring with you the corps will portion out extra rations of whale blubber and sour fish jello to you during the dinner break on Saturday. We will be learning the new corps song "Russian Christmas Music" (SCV did do this once, right?) for the show & tell on Sunday. Join us as we "Bring the Heat" from the North in 2010. North, North, North Happy Holidays from the Alaskan Heat.
