  1. Or maybe a "C" for that cheesy show concept.
  2. My experience is not really on topic as I never marched in the DCI era. But, when I did march, our last event was a parade the day following the California State Open championships. And yes, it was weird then too.
  3. Best of luck to all DCA corps. But what I fear (respect?) is not that they're in the game but that they will become THE game.
  4. Your reply is right on point and as can only be told by one that was actually there. Just one minor exception though...1972 with the advent of DCI was the first year that prelims performances where the full show. Thanks for a great post!
  5. Given the age range it also might have the opposite effect!
  6. Surprised that the South Koreans would give up copyrights on their music.
  7. You want real change...there was talk of having the girl come back out in the pre-dci green satin blouse and black skirt uni.
  8. Didn't march that year but it was definitely large green garbage cans (see my earlier post re: view from the endzone). As for getting the correct pants back, all pieces were probably numbered on the inside.
  9. Yep, definitely 1991 Freelancers so I stand corrected on my reply page 1. Specifically, for anyone else wanting to confirm it is at 3:46 on the legacy collection DVD or Fan Network.
  10. On the original PBS broadcast (that was the year with announcer voiceovers) Rondo said something like "Oh, my...Oh, my my" as the guard was positioning for the Bottle Dance and the musical transition was underway.
  11. none, aged out 1971 (unless you count 2002 SCV Alumni Corps in Madison).
  12. It has always been difficult for a corps to finish in the #2 spot and so on down the line. Over the years there have been more corps than I can count on one hand that I felt deserved the #1 position. I won't go into detail but it is always only one opinion (or set of opinions) that matter in the end. My heartfelt congratulations go out to every corps that hits the field every year.

Fan Network subscribers can view on FN.
  14. If I read the OP correctly this girl had traveled to march in a lower placing corps. If that is true my assumption would be that she either hadn't made the cut with her hometown corps or felt that she could not early in her marching days. Forgive me if I read the OP wrong.
  15. Prelims then were shortened versions of the shows. I believe time limits were 7 to 8:30 minutes or something like that. Still it must have been long days. I was only there for about 15 minute on the field and then in the back stands with the other non-finalists for the finals competition.
  16. You know, there's always one Hopkinsism ever year that creates tumult and that later is moot. Perhaps this one is this year's.
