  3. my marching band is doing a lady gaga show in the fall........ but for those of you who love Gaga, join the International Church Of GaGa on Facebook. WWLGD?
  4. I go for the show. I may be young compared to a lot of you guys and girls, but I too think that drum corps (or band, or whatever it's becoming) is about the experience you get out of marching, and not the scores. I go to listen to the face melters and ballads, the clean/hotbeats, and watch people my age and a little bit older sprint around a field. I couldn't care less about the scores. I go to watch Pioneer as much as I go to watch The Cavaliers. If you care about the scores, go watch the World Cup or something
  5. i'll be sure to take some lot videos this summer.
  6. very true. Forte, which has already been brought up, has some front ensemble and cymbal openings. If it doesn't work out this year, do march DCA though.
  7. if worst comes to worst and you can't find a spot this year (and i hope you will) there are great DCA corps for later years. DCA is very underrated
  8. i'm against it, but i'm not going to boycott any corps. and if it passes (unlikely) i'll probably still watch everybody, because they're all better than me at this point.
  9. this will rock. i will enjoy it. they will learn a lot, and entertain people.
  10. Drums: BD Cavaliers Cadets Overall: Cavaliers Cadets BD
  11. the g7 refuses to perform at finals and The Blue Stars barely edge out BAC for the title
  12. (I think) James Logan did a Willy Wonka show at WGI this year. Whoever Roger Carter teaches, they did it. A girl fell down.
  13. it wouldn't work. but i wouldn't miss out on most of the corps i like
  14. plus somebody on their percussion staff (arranger? instructor? i forget which) is a full time undergrad
  15. I am under 30, and I don't like it. The way I see it, you could stop showing up and something might get done. Or, by not showing up, corps lose money and fold. Or, in order to keep the season going, they raise dues, and fewer people can afford to march. Corps fold. Or, only people who can pay the money will march, and quality of shows will deteriorate.
  16. as far as marching a top 5 corps your rookie year, it does happen a lot. There are some strong marching band programs at high schools. Our horn sergeant in HS last year is marching mello in SCV this year. its probably different for the drum line though. All the lines have such good players
  17. the way I would do it (and what do i know ) is the drum major watches the center snare or center tenor when they are moving and conducts with their feet. and when they aren't moving, all hell breaks loose
  18. Pio in semis. Blue Knights in Finals. A corps starting with C wins, but not drums.
  19. it's interesting that the White Sox are in the picture in the OP. The first time they used black was in 1951 I think, and before then it was mostly dark navy pinstripes. Black has been primary for them since 1991.
  20. if anybody cares, we were featured on WGI yesterday. if you search the main page a bit, it'll show up eventually. cheers, sorry for digging up this post
  21. I am very new to drum corps. I went to semis in 2005, didn't really catch on with me, until I joined a summer marching band last year, and at first started watching the 2008 DVD. Our director showed me some video of Velvet Knights 92 and early 70s Troopers (for the life of me I can't remember what year it was). These inspired me, and since then i've watched lots of shows from the 70's and 80s. The thread, to me, helps me understand the important history of this activity i've come to love, appreciate the "dinosaurs" that helped build the tradition, and aspire to participate in. Regardless of how the activity has changed. Chris in Madison
  22. Velvet Knights 1992 gets my vote. so I voted SCV '89 (and who says youngsters don't watch *somewhat* old shows. both of these were put on before I was born)
