  1. Over the next few weeks, we will be getting the new mellos into their drill spots :) Don't you worry, they will be rockin soon enough. Thank you for the very positive and REAL review. Appreciate it.
  2. Some of us 20 somethings are happliy employed - it's just anything worth living in is out of our means. That or we are waiting to close on a condo :)
  3. Have to fill out insurance paperwork, providing your SSN and birthday. No real way to get around that....
  4. Best bet would contact BD on their website for audition information.
  5. Saw them on the field this week at Bristol. The unis look great! I wish there was a bit more red, but the accents are tastefully done. -Proud Alumnus
  6. THIS^^ in all my responses - I think I failed to mention it's not just myself, but three of us who are constantly calling/texting/brainstorming/throwing ideas at eachother. We've known eachother for years and have worked closely together. We can be extremely upfront with our feelings and know we aren't going to hurt eachother if we disagree, we figure it out. I'm very young, and our program (HS) is very new, but I feel like we are going in the right direction :)
  7. I know with the marching band I teach, I get the drill early and I can change and edit the guard dots (the marching band only does football games.) And for the winterguard, I write the drill, so I make the full picture as I'm writing the work/drill :)
  8. While I can't say for the drum corps side of things: with the winter guard I teach - the creative side is always going. School just got out, and we already have spent hours talking and figuring out our show concept for the winter. It's an evolution process. For example we started thinking of re-telling some well known fairy tale - but have a dark twist to it, and eventually landed on just "childhood nightmares" It's really cool to see how things evolve when you get people with creative minds together.... this usually happens over some dinner and or beer :)
  9. They (or atleast I do) take the music, and set it to motion. You need to be able to have a big picture, and work down from there. We usually start off with a count sheet, (winter guard shows) figure out the impact points, what equipment we want where, and the general effect we want to come across. From there we write specific work, if it doesn't fit or doesn't do what we thought it would, we re-write it. I usually start with the hardest parts first (when teaching to HS kids) and then slowly add the other parts to it. I've spent hours and hours just listening to music, or repping one 20 second chunk of work until I get what I want, and even then it's not always what I want. I'm sure other people have different ways of doing it.
  10. I'm going to post this here as well: Hello all, I'm a visual tech for Bushwackers, as we finish filling the holes in the brass line, we are in need of one more mellophone. Through the generous donation from an anyonmous source, there is a great tuition break. We are just looking for one committed person who wants to either get back into marching, or experience corps for the first time. The show is really coming together. If this seriously interests you or someone you know please send me a message here. Thanks all! -Mike
  11. On my Holton Merker Matic that now has a Lawson leadpipe and nickel bronze bell flair I use a Stork Philip Myers M8. I have used a Schilke 31C2 and my Lawson custom made, but the M8 is my favorite. A lot of people can't even get a sound out of it because there is no actual cup - it's just a big funnel...

  13. As someone who wanted to march since 2005, but didn't get to until 2010 because my parents said "You have to work" I did it anyway, and it was the best decision I've ever made.
  14. Biggest reasons (excuses) for kids not marching today? 1) Money - they'd rather work. 2) Band Director does not want them in a program that is not theirs. Doesn't matter what key instruments are in if kids aren't marching.
  15. Klesch and Hannum. I REALLY wish they were doing their normal tour. So sad I probably won't see them live this year :-/
  16. and why electronic systems in drum corps is a bad idea outside :-P
  17. Appreciate the kind words. The weird transition is where the percussion feature is going to go. To clear up the theme behind the show, it's on our website: http://bushwackers.org/2013-program/ :)
  18. slide dents. oh my god. slide dents....
  19. Most lacquered horns don't leave soaking for too long, as you never quite know what type of lacquer is on the horn - and even just water can eventually strip it. Diluted simple green 6:1 is what we used at repair school to degrease and sterilize the horns. 3-5 minutes should be long enough. Then snake the brush through and rinse. I use an air compressor to dry the horns.
  20. Already did Tuba Christmas in Boston this past weekend. I'm a F horn player, who likes to dabble in Euph. It was fun :)
