  1. Woooo Hoooo first picture I have seen all season with my daughter playing. Thank You So Much
  2. 127 users in this forum and none of them at the show...... sigh
  3. So I have a question. With Cascades being the only lower scoring corps tonight how will this effect their score. Will it raise it or lower it? I have noticed this year so far most of there shows have been with BK and Cadets. I keep hearing how much better their show is this year and how they have stepped it up. But theirs scores are much lower this year than they were last year.First show over 3 points lower, and last nights show 4 points lower than this time last year. Is this because of them not going head to head with corps in there scoring range yet? Is it them changing the tour schedule this year? Or is it how clean the show is at this point. Just interested is some feed back on this.
  4. I was thinking kinda along the same lines today but add in all WC and give them a show title. I think it would be interesting to see how the different corps would interpret the show. No use of props, no special uniforms/guard outfits, mics, synth....etc. would you get 23 completely different shows? Would corps be recognized by there choice of music and drill only?
  5. This happened to cascades last year in Mesa AZ
  6. Not really bigger, but they do have more vets than last year.
  7. Wish I was watching it on FN. Or even better wish I was there
  8. Any one at the show tonight keeping us posted?
  9. Did the say anything about any of the other corps?
  10. I disagree, most of the band/ corps geeks I know also are involved in sports. Including football, baseball, track, cross country, wrestling just to list a few.
  11. That is great news! now if we just had someone in the stands
  12. I just hope there energy is higher than it was in SLC. My daughter said they were struggling with energy that night.
  13. I would have to go with it is more than a sport. You could say that learning drill is the same as learning plays, but I would challenge any athlete to play a horn while making their plays and still get to their goal. Drum Corps, Marching Band, etc has an educational level higher than any sport. This has been an argument in our school district this last year. One of our assistant football coaches said "If our football team worked as hard as our marching band we would make it to state." The kids on the field preforming make it look easy at times, when the reality of it is, it is far from easy to have a good clean show. There is no sport where all 75-100 people on the field have to work as 1 in unison. Most people (who have never marched) have no concept of what it takes to field a show. But they could more than likely tell you how to play most any sport. MO on why it is more than a sport. And as far as the steroid comment Isn't using a mic on a horn just a steroid for music? (just saying)
  14. I have been on edge all day, tonight was my daughters first night back with her corps. We didn't think she was going to get to tour this year. Really glad they are starting to show how hard they have been working.
  15. Was at the Seattle show tonight and really enjoyed the show. Will only comment on world class corps that were there. My daughter is a Cascades vet that last mim this year could not march cause of medical reasons, with that said still not sure how I am feeling about their show. Not that I thought it was bad just would like to see them stepping it up a little. They are family and I love them so won't pass judgment yet(is only there 2nd show of the season will see where they take it). On a side note like the new uniforms other than the lime green plumes. Was told that was not what was ordered They were supposed to be a few shades darker. BK, Thank You Thank You, Have to say I was not a big fan of last years show, This year you got my attention! Loved it and can't wait to see how it grows. Cadets, Was really excited to see them and wow they did not let me down. They had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't take my eyes off the field. Was really glad to see there score go back up tonight. I will add that I am musically challenged, but my daughter nails it on the head when she calls me a Drum Corps Junkie. The best words ever spoken are "Drum majors (insert name here) is your corps ready?" P.S. Pulp mill has been gone for a few years....No more Tacoma Aroma!
  16. This is just a parents perception, and there are lots of factors that play into choosing a corps. I would recommend talking to some of the members and staff of the different corps you are interested in and see how there experiences fit in with what you are looking for. As long as you give your personal best to the corps you choose you will be fine. My daughter just finished her first year on tour and one of the statements she made was that she learned it isn't always about the destination, it is the voyage to the destination that matters.
  17. 1. At Quarter finals Cascades summons a thunderstorm. The lightening strikes hit BD's mirrors sitting in the lot and shatters them to pieces. BD goes on with out them and there GE score drops by 10 points. How ever Cascades GE score goes up by 10 because they can summon a thunderstorm.
  18. I saw OC at the beginning of the season in Portland and loved there show. Way to go OC!
  19. She is with Cascades. And now that it is towards the end of the season I would still have to say this is one of the best experience of her life. Yes she has called frustrated, sick and in pain but every time i get one of those calls i ask the same 2 questions. 1 You going to do this again next year? 2 You still want to age out? The answers are always "Of course why wouldn't I want to." To which I secretly do the happy dance on the other end of the phone. JMO Every time a kid steps on that field they get a little more out of the experience than they did the time before.
  20. Our school district is the same way Our last day of school was the 18th of June and my daughter had to get permission to show up for all days a day late because she was required to play at graduation. It ended up not being a problem. As far as band camp this year, we do 2 weeks the first week is just percussion and guard, the 2nd week is full band. She is missing both of these as we started on Monday. Our band director's daughter (also our drill instructor) marched 4 years with Cascades, our drum instructor aged out with Cascades, and our color guard coach did 1 year with Cascades so they are all very supportive of her doing this. I got a good laugh today when a freshman asked " I heard my section leader is going to miss all of camp, why is it ok for her to not show up?" ( Policy being you miss band camp you don't march) The response from our band director was "She is doing her own version of of band camp and since she spent her summer with a world class drum corps the directors expiation for the rest of band was to learn as much as they could from my daughter when she got back."
  21. Thank you for sharing about what you were able to hear.
  22. Really not tiring to sound pissy but out of the 8 corps at tonights show you only mention 7.....
