  1. If you want to march in a horn line Pioneer is a good place to go. We always have a few woodwinds and percussionist in our brass line and they tend to pick up quick. Pioneer is world class and I've had an awesome time in my past 2 summers there. But if your heart is set on conducting, I know Phantom does rookie DM's or you can try open class. Bette Every Day
  2. Pioneer is a great corps if you want to start in world class. I've marched 2 years and I've loved it and the SOPYS help alot with fees. As for being deaf. Talk to your doctor about how Dr. Beat/overall noise of the corps would affect your listening. We actually had two people this year who were deaf in one ear (me and a cymbal player). It makes things a little difficualt but its all up to you on how comfortable you are with it. Better Every Day
  3. It's that point when your insanely tired but still keep going. Or those days when it's 100* plus weather and your sweating like a mad man, yet you still push through. Then when you get done with your final preformance and look back at the season, you realize al that you've overcome and it an awesome feeling. When you return to the normal world you realize physical challenges don't seem as hard and life just seems easier. You learn so much about life and yourself. You really have to march to understand.
  4. For camp updates Pioneer always has one on the website www.pioneer-corps.org In between the March and April camp, Pioneer did alot of recruiting at the WGI Finals in Dayton. For the next camp update I would check the website within the next couple days. Better Every Day
  5. I used New Balance last summer. Worked great.
  6. Lots of running and pushups. Also bring an ace bandage and a knee brace. You never know when or if your knee/ankle will give out.
  7. I think its like whats been said already, when you really become a part of the family. I think you should get a jacket until about 3/4ths the way through the season that way if you do go home injured you at least stuck it through the worst. But it depends from corps to corps. Once you recieve your necklace thats usually a big initiation process.
  8. Pioneer. I've heard the show music and I have a feeling Pioneer is going to get some new fans. I'm also excited to see SCV's show. With a new brass caption head (?) and a dark show, it's going to be interesting.
  9. 1. Preformers mentality 2. Staff Issues 3. Costs 1. So many of those eligable to march DCI have bad mentality. They either think they arn't good enough or believe that it's only cool to march in top 12 corps. If they would give Open Class or bottom of World Class a chance, they might realize DCI isn't all about winning. 2. Staff issues are hurting many corps. Whether staff can't agree or they get constant new staff every year so the corp becomes inconsistant. Also judging is getting kinda funky. Look at shows like Santa Clara Vanguard 2009. Very clean drill and music that gets the crowd going but they only got 5th. How can staff of corps decide on what to do if the judges give mixed signals? Clean, exciting shows arn't good enough? 3. Money is hurting everybody. We all know it. Better Every Day
  10. Pio's new drum major uniforms are quite nice. The white tops make the corps look taller.
  11. -Shows for the audience -less electronics -less props (theyre really distracting)
  12. It makes me sad seeing all these people criticizing Pioneer and Roman. Just let them be. Pioneer is going to have an awesome 50th year. Like I said just let Pioneer be. Go and ask anybody who's marched Pioneer and they'll tell you it's not all about the scores, the uniforms, lack of floor time or whatever. It's about becoming Better Every Day. And our corps prayer, its about "the togetherness and friendship we share." Also about the going to church part, last season we had a few people who were not religious and even a person who was jewish. Nobody really minded going to church every once in awhile. Pioneer is a good corps and just like the Troopers, they have a theme that makes them who they are. So stop criticizing Pioneer and look forward to watching us "Celebrate" our 50th anniversary. Better Every Day.
