  1. There’s a long list of examples. Anyway the only audience that matters is the judges ( and they’re quick to tell you so).
  2. Careful. You’re close to speaking for the audience.( a DCP mortal sin!). Anyway the audience response to Crown so far seems to have been very positive. So your premise may be flawed.
  3. There’s a good chance this is not what they’ve been hearing from adjudicators.
  4. Crown is usually well-prepared for JB Crum. Looking forward to your analysis 😀
  5. Since none of the DCP design experts have actually heard the tapes Crown is getting, its all a bunch of silly guesses based on recap “analysis”. In fact many commenters never even see the show live. So I take it all with a grain of sea salt. Go Crown!
  6. Oops you're right. It was named Raub but X and I were clearly talking about the same place. Is Trexler the school with the pedestrian bridge to the fields?
  7. BTW I'm sure Crown will be at Nazareth HS again.
  8. Lol favorite is not exactly the right word to describe it. But it certainly became part of the Crown Tour Experience. Getting a few hundred fans watching rehearsal was pretty cool. CrownBrass in the amphitheater was amazing. The showers:
  9. I called Cavies over Boston in the 2019 Prediction thread and was mocked for it. It was easy to see they had all the pieces but brass for a couple years in a row and also easy to see they fixed that when they brought in Kevin. (ok I also predicted Crown 1st but I ALWAYS predict them to win 🙂 )
  10. 100% think Erin is the right person in the right job. But my impression was that Chris wrote the weapons , Erin the dance , and Rick the flags. Maybe I'm mistaken.
  11. I don't care who's work it is really. The flag impacts all need rewritten. The weapon and dance impacts are fine.
  12. OK after watching this run on high... They need to rewrite all of Rick's flag work. He's writing to counterpoint and more subtle musical lines. That is fine (and even better) in indoor where the stage is small. When you're writing for outdoor, you need to be bloody obvious at the impact moments because the stage is HUGE. Watch the flags at every musical impact completion. They are DONE before it hits and the work leading up to it is NOT following the melodic line. THIS is killing effect -- not the design (because although it's really intellectual, I read on the interwebs that judges are actually GETTING IT ). But the disconnect between the color on the field (flags) and the musical impact is just murdering visual effect. UGH. So 1. Put some contrast in the guard uniform 2. Rewrite all the flag impacts. If Rick wrote them, let Chris rewrite them all. GE will soar. Trust me 🙂
  13. One of the unique things about the ensemble (vs the other military ensembles): these guys have all been through basic AND advanced weapons. They are bad ### Marines -- not just professional musicians in uniform! There are actually quite a few Crown guys in the unit.
  14. Crown always is dramatically different live. Mics don't capture half of it.
  15. As usual I made a typo every other word. No mics from the front sideline to the back of the performance area. Keep brass acoustic please. If you need to mic a soloist, put them in front of the front sideline. Nothing is accomplished with wireless mics except bad sound and Where's Waldo for soloists (and lot of other worse things).
  16. 2020 rule proposal: No mics past the front sideline. Would dramatically improve the activity.
  17. I’m pretty sure the split up was made at the start of the season for housing and logistics purposes. . Not sure how they determine the split though.
  18. Just curious...how many live DCI shows have you actually been to? I don't think I've ever been to a show where the drum judge wasn't a constant distraction (before this year of course).
