  1. Drum corps is "whoos"...that's why I marched. Concert halls provide great "whoo-free" environments. It's a sport of the arts, my friend. Soak in the sound, give the corps the "whoo" if it's deserved. The members will love you for it. Go crazy.
  2. Considering who the Scouts have on staff, I think they'll be just fine.
  3. That and a solid percussion section. I think Madison will be just fine.
  4. That and Carolina Crown isn't at the Muscatine show. We all have our days.
  5. I'm just glad the Czapinskis didn't get a chance to judge this one...feel bad for all the paying fans though :/
  6. This just brought the biggest smile to my face. BEAUTIFULLY said!
  7. For 12 minutes of music, I feel I get a perfect balance of Pictures and traditional Scouts. Robert W. Smith did a wonderful job IMO. Park-and-bark, hold sets...whatever you want to call them ALL corps utilize them. There isn't a single corps that moves the entire time. Madison has some cleaning to do, but they're definitely moving and playing a lot more competitively this year. The members and staff have a very clear vision for the organization and you're beginning to see the fruits of all the hard work put in since 2010. I'd be a little hurt if they were stagnant...great to see them off to a strong start. I expect the same progress for Spirit in the future. Even before last year, oddly enough, I've always found myself extremely entertained by their productions. They had a fantastic season last year and they're building on that success. They are great this year and we can all agree that expectations are very high for them. We should enjoy the fact that these two corps are making statements against some of the "giants" which is awesome. Let's appreciate the success that both corps are having at the moment...it's a little mind-blowing IMO.
  8. Personally, I can't WAIT until they add the percussion and guard panels for the Scouts. Last I saw the guard needed some work, but that work is pretty insane and they have the perfect staff in place to make it clean. Can't wait. SO proud of the Scouts season thus far!!!
  9. And the Madison Scouts do it best. Welcome to the thread :)
  10. I hear a lot about the "crowd not being into the Scouts show". I'm not sure if this show is intended to have the crowd out of their seats the entire time. You can see and hear the moments when that's the intent, but when I watch this year's show (compared to the last few), I simply just sit back and enjoy all the music that's happening. There are instances where it feels almost inappropriate to clap because of the continuity of the program or soft endings of phrases. I'm HOPING that the crowd feels the same way. At the end, they give it all to you and there's no doubt that THAT moment in particular is designed to have you out of your seat. Maybe not the best year to have this approach to the program considering the changes in judging, but as an audience member, I LOVE all the nuance and small moments and find that a smile has been plastered to my face the entire show. Of course, this is my opinion, but though I'm not feeling the need to go completely crazy for most of the show, I'm loving every minute. Just trying to put the crowd response in a different perspective.
  11. At least a 2 point spread in the Scouts favor. 3rd show...looks like they're finding their stride. BYBO GENTLEMEN!!!!
  12. Though I wish it was...double check the Scouts score. That's the score they had from last night. They had a 68.2 the first show.
  13. It's June...this show will be EPIC at finals!!!!
  14. Awesome! I did notice how much stronger the battery was or, better yet, how much more musical the percussion writing was than in years past. Pit is IMPRESSIVE!!...but maybe a touch too loud. Guard has no choice but to be fierce with Jim Moore and Adam Sage running the show. I'm confident in that helping us out quite a bit.
  15. Those of you who attended last night's show, are there noticeable visual design/fundamental improvements this year? I know that's been a struggle the past couple years, and based on last night's scores that still seems to be the case this year. Rep. score was pretty low...not sure what to think about that. It's still June, I'm aware lol. I'm very confident with the brass book and the writing thus far. Love it. Robert W. Smith is the man.
  16. That wasn't to draw comparison to the Bluecoats but to Spirit. To be completely honest, I think the Scouts play with a MUCH more mature approach to shaping and phrasing than the past couple years. I think our ear inevitably makes slight comparisons to what came before. It's just crazy how things are going thus far. I'll be biting my nails the entire season!
