  1. et al, Once again it is time to invite any and all people, who are interested, to march in the 2009 San Francisco Chinese New Years Parade. WHEN: February 7, 2009 WHERE: San Francisco, CA WHO: Anybody WHAT: Bridgemens "In the Stone" from the original Larry K. arrangement. More info: http://www.renegades.org/chinesenewyear/ See you helping us beat St. Marys Drum and Bell Corps
  2. Tried to go through a gate with a couple of friends of mine, who are instructors. I was in uniform, and was told that I could not go through this gate to get OUT, but had to go through a different gate half way across the stadium. My friends on the other hand were allowed to go through the gate that I was stopped at. Where they waited while I walked around to the other gate. the stupidest thing I have ever experienced. What was the difference between me and my friends? A uniform?!?!?! Almost took my uniform off and put my horn down so I could go through the gate that my friends had no problem with.
  3. Hey Gary, Definately fun hanging with you in the Bar. Glad you were able to catch us at Prelims. Next year?
  4. Wow, some people just dont know how to have fun. Though I do like the "Fox News" method of communication: Make a statement but provide no facts or logic to back it up. for example: "Getting up and acting foolishly at the I&E mini-corps venue is purely disrespectful to the others that work hard to put out a serious quality product. .... Not to mention the people that work hard behind the scenes to make I&E happen." (underline mine) Exactly how is that so? How do you connect "acting foolishly" with "purely disrespectful to the others that work hard"? And how exactly does/did CF insult/disrespect "the people that work hard behind the scenes to make I&E happen"? I&E happened. People performed. Awards were given. Bragging rights defined. A sense of accomplishment all around. Seems to me that all that hard work behind the scenes paid off and was rewarding to those who volunteered. (I would like to hear from anybody who actually did work behind the scenes) As far as CF, etc. being kid friendly. CF had kids in it ("CF is in the house!"). Cant get more friendly then that. I will admit AR (last year) may have crossed a line (slightly), but on the other hand, I dont know how many people I saw getting their kids picture taken with Dino the dinosaur (an SCV champion btw). BTW - I am a no-ringer, yet I am EXTREMELY PROUD of my years in SCV and Renegades. Does that make me arrogant? As far as Renegades being your hot dog corps, I can understand why. No waiting in line, because everybody is in the stands watching the Renegades. Smart choice. I would like to thank Lee for inserting some fun and fire into what is usually a boring and banal forum. Keep it up. DC is all about having fun, achieving a goal, connecting and communing with other DC addicts. If you cant handle that maybe you need to take up needlepoint. LOUD IS GOOD
  5. Hurley Ambassadors (Hurley, WI) - about 4 hours in 1973 Santa Clara Vanguard - 1976, 77, 79 SJ Raiders (San Jose, CA) - 1981 Marching Instructor SCV Alumni Corps - 97, 98, 99, 01, 02 SF Renegades - 00 - ??
  6. I did Miss Amana support for SCV in 93 and 94 after leaving the activity for 10 yrs. I personally thought that 93 was a great show. The lush music. the classy guard "uniforms". Beautiful show. 94 was truly amazing. I am not a fan of prop shows and could have easily done with out the Poppies On Wheels. But from the opening Red October to the Great Gates... Totally floored me. The best of the Lenny years IMO. Esp. the Hearshey show, I was in tears. And yes, Lenny would not let the hornline play Clowns and replaced it with this POS "Vanguard Anthem", that sounded alot like the theme from Battlestar Galactica (the original series) or something like that. Luckily the horn staff, horn members and a few alums made sure that Clowns was heard. One of my best memories of 93, was after setting up in Jackson, the horn staff came by one nite and asked all of support people to follow them. They lead us to the horn arc, and played "Clowns" for us. (Lenny was at a DCI meeting at the time ) I went up to a couple of the horn players and said "the secret to that song is the release after the push. It has to be so sharp, so clean that the audience falls into the silence." Let me tell you the next nite I walked over to the horn arc and experienced one of the most amazing performances of "Clowns" in my life. A release, so razor sharp, it cut right though the humidity of Mississippi in August, like warm butter. Its those moments that make this sport so amazing.
  7. FORMER family member ?!?!?! Sorry my dear, once a Renegade, ALWAYS a Renegade.
  8. Started writting FORTRAN for NASA in 81. left coding to pursue Electronics (repair and calibration). Discovered this World Wide Web thing, hired as webmaster for Concentric Network in 96. Was a dotcom millionaire, well half-millionaire. ("Was" being the operative word. But boy what a roller-coaster) Now working for a small graphic design shop, in Aptos CA, doing Web/Internet/IT stuff. Linux/Unix, PHP, mySQL, AJAX, blah blah blah.
  9. peppermint schnapps in a hip flask. Light thermal top under the red shirt. black gloves to keep the hands warm. Im ready. Now if I can think of a way to keep my pre-parade cigar from getting too wet... think sun.
  10. Due to a stupid person NOT loogin out when he was finished the orignal post is on his account. I claim all responsibility for the original post.
  11. So much for Freedom of Speech. At the request of a dear friend and comrade in arms, I have edited this post.
  12. An honor and a privilege, sir. PS - Listening to 74 Kingsmen, amongst others, is what got me to tryout for SCV in 76. Its ALL your fault B)
  13. Yea, even when I was staring you in the face I could not connect 79 with the now. Sorry. I am definately going to dig up the old 79 yearbook and find you. Unfortunately my budget doesnt allow for DCI and DCA, so Im going to enjoy my weekend off and then focus on kicking it in Rochester. I am definately at Stanford though. I was kinda bummed there wasnt more time to hang out. but you guys had a show to perform. Have a beer for me in Pasadena. (as I type this, the office stereo starts playing "My Immortal". Karma?)
  14. Its kind of a running joke with us West Coast AA corps. DCI-Pacific REQUIRES AA corps to go on first at any DCI sanctioned shows. (the ONLY DCI regional that does this btw. they also dont pay performance fees to AA corps) So basically, we (Renegades, Dream) will only be able to perform under the lights at DCA. Sour Grapes? YES !! B) PS - Can I be a Kingsmen Rifleline Groupie? Pretty please?
  15. PS: If youre not ready to give up the ghost yet - SoCal Dream and SF Renegades will be accepting applications sometime after Labor Day. B) We dont sleep on no sticking gym floors. WEST IS BEST !!!
  16. Originally posted on SCV Alumni List: To all the selfish alumni reliving their glory days at the expense of the current members ($1 to Jim Casella), CONGRATULATIONS !!! For all our alumni currently performing with the Anaheim Kingsmen: GREAT JOB Saturday nite, guys and gals. Mambo rocked. Artistry in Rhythm teased. FIREBIRD !!!!! A special gold star to the Rifle line: Get down with the OLD SCHOOL, ladies. Truly impressive. The snareline (100% pure kingsmen, btw) stick work brought back memories of a more visual time. They will definitely be throwing babies at DCI. (though how an exhibition corps got to go on last is beyond me. ;-)) To all our alumni currently involved with the SCV/BD Alumni Brass: Who would have thought; the two great powerhouses of West coast drum corps getting together to perform drum corps for the PURE FUN of it. Your performances at Stockton and Concord only alluded to the greatness we will experience at Stanford. Watching the SCV alums working through the fingerings for the jazz licks in Free. Watching the BD alums dealing with delicacy of Music of the Night. Priceless. A special hats off to the most amazing soprano/trumpet line ever created. #### you're good. and of course to all my friends and family in the Renegades: The view is much better from the field. The performance doesnt end at 22. Loud is Good. But we all know that. So keep it up boys and girls. Lets show those A-R nay-sayers that you can still perform Drum Corps with all your heart and soul, AND work bingos, sell soovies, sponsor performers, mix Gotts, cook Broccoli Chicken. See you kicking ### at a drum corps show near you.

  18. The best of the Dr. Len years for sure. Hershey was an especally good performance that year.
  19. Any word on Stockton Buccaneers being at Sunnyvale? PS - Being a MAJOR ELP fan, I am totally in love with BDBs show this year. PPS - My friend Kimela marched 85 BD (emersons 1st concerto) and has a daughter in BDB (playing emersons 1st). Too cool, Kimmy
  20. I can still recall standing on the sidelines at the Sunnyvalle show two(?) years ago and cheering the Jester "kids" as they paraded past. Even then I could sense an underlying strength eminating from the group. A hard horn book, that they played with emotion and guts. A toast to JESTER. Come back stronger then ever. And we WILL be there to cheer you on.
  21. What wrongs? do you have a list? thanks PS - 93 - 20 days Miss Amana support - SCV 94 - 10 days Miss Amana support - SCV 96, 97, 98, 99 - Cook support - SCV Cadets 97, 98, 99 - SCV Webmaster 3-times member of SCVAA Steering Committee Over 200 bingos worked - 92 - 99 SCV saved my life (twice), a debt I can never repay. But Im to a point where I dont believe I owe them anything. 2002 - Member Sponsor - Renegades 2006 - White Truck Driver - Renegades 2007 - White Truck Driver - Renegades 2007 - One of Greg Gillmans other brains - Renegades B)
  22. Blue Devil Family Day - Usually The Renegades first show. GE box is due West. So that first horns up is blinding to a point I cant see where I am or where Im going. Way fun.
  23. SCV/BD Alumni Brass = One of the most amazing Lead Soprano/Trumpet lines ever created. (and the other sections aint all that bad either) BD Alums joining in and playing "Music of the Night", SCV Alums joining in to play "Free". Even more fun, watching current SCV instructors/members jaws drop as they walk through the rehearsal room while we are playing. Rehearsals - Every Thursday, 7:00pm - 9:30pm, SCV Hall, Santa Clara, CA. Who would have thought? B)
  24. Good points all around, as usual. My issue is "The Gap". If you have 22 - 34 members you have NO performance/competitive opportunity. Too big for MiniCorps, too small for Open Class. Fill the Gap. Make it possible for a corps of any size to have a place/division to perform and compete. Start an "In-between Division". Denying opportunities NEVER promotes growth. Thank you for your time.
