  1. Why specifically baritone? If you have an interest in learning the baritone and think you can develop a passion for it, then go for the baritone. When I started in drum corps, I never even played an instrument and then was handed a baritone at my first practice. I ended up playing a couple of seasons with it and played it throughout my high school years. Since you're already in high school, if you do go this route, don't delay. Get on it as soon as you can. Also, based on the number of spots in a drum corps, there are more low brass spots than there are pit spots. One last item is you get to perform on the field. For me, that would be the way I would go. However, you'll find some of the closest knit groups in the pit.
  2. After doing a double-take on the scores from last night's Texas shows, it appears we potentially have a new guest coming to the Saturday night feast in Indy! Go Academy!
  3. Check them out on Facebook and also they post their whereabouts on the events page on CarolinaCrown.org
  4. Anyone still think it's a 2 horse race? After wathing tonight's show I'd say NO! Crown is coming on as #1 in visual will attest - If design can continue to address GE, watch out - this is a dark horse with still enough time to go. Bloo will remain in contention with GE and a show they deserve to be getting the credit they are, Cadets have "it'" with their show and BD is, well simply, BD. SCV? Any other year, they would be a solid player to medal. There's only 3 medalists and someone is going to left out, but not because they're not deserving. Saturday in San Antonio can't come soon enough! Darn, what a terrific year drum corps fans!
  5. Nice encore by the Cavailers. May they always stay who they are!
  6. A close 2nd behind Cadet french sound is the Cavies use of the bones! Holy batman!
  7. Reality time: in association with the other discussion thread about a co-ed Cavie corps? Heck no!!!!!!!!!!!! Love them no matter what!!!!!!
  8. Show theme aside, the music of Cavies is wonderful! Very underrated horn line.
  9. Bloo beat Cadets once this year in Akron. Can it happen again tonight?
  10. Boo if you will, but only because you're sad your cheer isn't as cool as BLOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. Best new sound of the year: Cadet's frenchies! Wow!!!
  12. There's something always so compelling about the Cadets feet. Darn they look good!
  13. Fabulous run for Crown tonight! I sense something good happening! Goosebumps baby!!!
  14. I've noticed a number of shows this year at near or full capacity. My sense is that 2015 will be record-breaking year for attendance for DCI.
  15. Steinbrenner Jerry Jones Mark Cuban George Hopkins George is awesome! We need more colorful characters like him.
  16. Lordy! I'm so glad you broght attention to this. My goodness, that's incredible!
  17. eyes are getting heavy... ... sleepy .... sleeeeeeeeeeeeeepyypppppppppppppppppppodyyiydddddddddddddddddd``````````````````````
  18. One more favorite... Favorite singer: (it seems to a thing this year) - Cavaliers (I really dig the sound)
  19. Favorite shows: Crown, BD, Bloo Favorite opener: Cadets Favorite ballad: tie - Crown and Bloo Best closer: Still waiting... Favorite uniforms: tie: SCV and Phantom Favorite surprise corps: Troopers Favorite newcomer: Louisiana Stars There will be more. I need to see more corps. I know there's some gems out there yet to be seen. For example, just turning on the DCI Network on Saturday, I heard some great sounds from Colts. I didn't catch their show, but for about a minute of the show I heard was really impressed. I'm looking forward to catching as many of the groups live before season's end. It's still early for me to really be firm about choosing favorites.
  20. Probably the last thing a show designer needs is another armchair designer but... :> how about if Bloo records the crowd noise live at the show and then loops it at the end? I thought that's what I heard from my surround sound - obviously I was mistaken. But, wouldn't that be pretty cool if they did that? ... no charge for the idea! :>
  21. Probably not. However, drum corps would have a void without the Cavies and Scouts. There's only 1 corps that finiishes at the top of each year. Yet, there are any number of shows and corps that entertain us. Both of these corps continue to deliver a quality product. If they don't think they need to change, then that should be their perogative. They field 150 members like all of the top corps do. Obviously it works for them.
  22. I watched the show from home last night. Can anyone chime on what the closing sound effect of the show is? It sounded like electronic crowd noise. Did I hear right?
  23. Unrelated to the competition last night, did anyone catch Dan Potter and the match game with the 2 girls at INT? From what I could see there were 14 placards. Contestents picked the matched pairs of corps logos. The game ended in a tie. If there were 14 placards, a pair of logos for each corps, then how could there have been a tie? There would have been 7 matches, correct? Did Dan have an off night of math? Or did I miss something?
