  1. Hi all..... This is a "bad news and good news" update on how my wife Barbara's doing: First, the bad news...... Barbara suffered a seizure last night (Friday night).....and was taken to the hospital for tests. The good news......she was released early this morning, and is back home resting, none the worse for the wear other than being really tired and a bit groggy, since she's been taking some painkillers. She's also been placed on an anti-seizure medication that the doctor says should help prevent any further episodes. I know it's not uncommon at all for stroke survivors to have a seizure.... but nonetheless, this scared the daylights out of me. It happened right around 10 PM... we had spent the evening watching TV, on the Internet, and just generally relaxing. Out of nowhere, Barbara starting shaking violently and could not speak or move her limbs.... I thought she might be having another stroke. The EMT's came and got her to the hospital, and told me that she started coming around during the ambulance ride. She was given a CT scan, and then by the time I had a chance to see her she was once again talking, moving her limbs, and so forth ( well, at least moving her left leg as much as it will move for now!!!) Bottom line.... it was a good scare, but nothing really more than that. We move ahead from here, and are looking forward to spending Christmas Day at home!!!! Happy Holidays to everyone... I cannot thank you all enough for all your support over the past several months! Fran
  2. Moved to main DCA/all-age forum. Sorry 'bout that.
  3. I've also found that comfortable shoes are of the utmost importance when I'm standing on the side of the road watching a parade. Fran
  4. LOL...... Imagine a given corps' show title: "An Outright Ripoff Show" Fran
  5. Well... that and St. Patrick's Day, when the first pint of Guinness hits my taste buds. Fran
  6. Same to you, Tom.... and all our friends with the Buccaneers organization! Fran
  7. Don't think.... you'll hurt the team. ($1 to "Bull Durham") Fran
  8. Jeff, the same to you, your family, and your extended drum corps family with the Bushwackers!!!!!! Fran
  9. I live in the Baltimore area, and I'd like to wish you guys the best of luck in getting your corps off the ground! Fran
  10. Happy Birthday, Cozy.... and many, many more!!!!!!! Fran
  11. I can't speak for anyone else, but I've tried, through DCP, to recruit people to pay our monthly mortgage bill and haven't had any luck. Fran
  12. Honestly, I don't think any one of those tunes was an outright copy of the version done by a given junior corps. IMO, the Bucs took those four tunes and put their own "spin" on them, to great effect..... again, IMO. One of the most well-coordinated programs that I've ever seen from a DCA corps. I understand Lee's point, and I agree with him to a decent degree..... but I hope we never get to the point where we equate "creativity" with "only doing songs no one's ever heard on a drum corps field before." Fran
  13. Yep.... in 1974 the junior corps I was with...Manville NJ Crusaders.... won the "Afternoon with the Corps" stage show.... it featured a bunch of local-circuit corps..... and as a result we got to perform with the "big guns" that night at the "Evening with the Corps" show, in Westchester. That was a good day!!!! Fran
  14. Wasn't the Dreitzer/Brassmen tune titled "Three Blind Mice at Carnegie Hall" or something like that? I'm with George on this.... that was a great chart. Fran
  15. Haven't read this whole thread, so this might have been mentioned before: 2000 Boston Crusaders, their "Time to Say Goodbye" ballad. Awesome! Fran
  16. Barbara and I watched the movie "Memphis Belle" a few days ago, and we thought of Minnesota Brass and their show based on that film, in 1994. That was a cool show.... really "told the story" of the movie. Best of luck to our friends with Brass in '08!!!!!! Fran
  17. Whatever the scoring system was in '74.... those are some weird scores for a championship!!! Fran
  18. All of the above! I'll add Frank "Fast Frankie" Nash to the all-time great list. Plus guys like Larry Visconti and Dave Franceschina from the great Sunrisers drum lines of the late 1970's-early 1980's. You want awesome snare lines? I'll submit the 1983 Sunrisers line, which went "tickless" at DCA Finals that year playing a killer Dennis DeLucia book, in the era of the tick system. Fran
  19. I believe it was the 1973 CYO show, since '73 was the Brassmen's last year on the field. They were a great corps! Fran
  20. Best wishes to you guys..... hope to see Shenandoah Sound back on the field in '08! Fran
  21. I understand what you're saying.... I was just tweakin' y'all a bit. I wish I could have seen that Phoenix prelims performance in person...... all I know is that the corps sounds pretty #### good on the Finals recording! Fran
  22. Absolutely correct, George. Pre-show imbibing was frowned upon, to say the least. (Meaning you would risk getting your ### kicked by fellow corps members if you tried to "have a few" or whatever before a contest!) But after the show.......look out!!!!!! Fran
  23. We have a winner! You're one of the three people. Fran
  24. Phoenix was 4th at DCA Prelims in 1975, and 5th at Finals. So neither the Skyliners, Caballeros nor Buccaneers got their butts kicked by Phoenix that year. Not taking anything away from Phoenix, because they had a great corps that year.... but I'm just sayin'.... Fran
