  1. The Bluegrass Alliance is proud to announce the new uniforms for our member corps. The Thoroughbreds Kentucky Colonels
  2. At least you don't have to write The Supercalifragilisticexpialadocious Crusaders. Since that's what I almost named my group lol
  3. You have the most epic corps name ever, and I am not being sarcastic about that! :)
  4. If you want someone to pack it for you and make 100% it is secure, take it to a UPS Store (I work there). They have what's called a "Pack & Ship Guarantee" which means if the store packs something for you and ships it and anything happens while its in transit, you are guaranteed the cost of the shipping, packing, and value of the item shipped back. Its worth the investment. Just the shipping for a mellophone would cost around the $100 range. I packed and shipped a trombone about 2 months ago and it cost around the $150 range just to ship.
  5. Dennis Wick 2XL Heritage Series. I personally play on a 1L with a gold rim and interior and I like it better, but the 2XL is what I recommend to everyone first.
  6. Corps name: The Thoroughbreds Director: Stephen Chase Todd Division: Open Class Hometown: Louisville, KY Show Title: "PowerSurge" Corps name: Kentucky Colonels Director: Stephen Chase Todd Class: Class A Hometown: Frankfort, KY Show Title: "Finding Home" The Thoroughbreds are proud to announce the formation of our new organization after a successful return season as well as making a return to Class A finals. We are proud to announce the formation of the Bluegrass Alliance which will add a new corps to the Class A Division, the Kentucky Colonels. The Thoroughbreds are also pleased to announce that they will be moving into the Open Class Division this season.
  7. Best way you can get used to marching a contra will be to just practice holding it, getting that muscle memory in. If you're looking for lighter horns, I hear, though do not know from experience, that Yamaha contras are the lightest of all the major brands of horns that corps use, so I would go for a corps that uses Yamahas, if you're considered about the weight of the horn. I march a Kantsul Grande G horn right now and its heavier than any horn I have ever marched.
  8. I can play on my Jettone Helleberg, but I just can't play on that Conn Helleberg anymore. Love my Dennis Wick too much lol
  9. Brad, I'll send you a copy of the brass program we are using now. Best program in drum corps, in my opinion ;)
  10. No Conn Hellebergs, ever. I despise that mouthpice. Best mouthpiece for drum corps, I would reccommend a Dennis Wick 2XL Heritage Series. My Dennis Wick personally is a 1L with a gold rim and inside and its my favorite mouthpiece that I have.
  11. Cincinnati Tradition still has openings for this season, if you want to prepare yourself for 2015, I would find a spot with a corps for this season because the best way to prepare yourself for a top corps is to have some type of experience. Doesn't have to be experience with a specific corps, but experience is key to prepare for a top group, unless you are extremely talented.
  12. I don't think its cursed, just not the right formula put together for a long lasting corps like the ones that have stood the test of time have.
  13. I'm trying to get my group listed under the Division 3 members, but it won't let me post it.
  14. Cincinnati Tradition is not announcing our show just yet, but we have been working on the opener as well as our ballad. Expect more news soon!
  15. After a long period of being away (mainly due to finding spare time), the Thoroughbreds Drum & Bugle Corps are proud to announce their return to DCPI's Class A Division. We are proud to present our program titled "SHINE!" which represents the message of no matter what type of background or situation you come from, you can always find your moment to where you may truly shine to the world. The Thoroughbreds are excited to come back to competition this season and hope that this will lead us to bigger and better things.
  16. Corps name: Thoroughbreds Drum & Bugle Corps Division: Class A Director: S. Chase Todd Location: Louisville, KY Program: SHINE! Shine Down Appalachian Spring Amazing Grace Pachabel Canon This season marks the return of the Thoroughbreds after a long time being inactive. We are proud to present our program titled "SHINE!" which represents a message of no matter what type of background or situation you come from, you can always find your moment to where you may truly shine to the world.
  17. Is DCI ever going to decide on a venue for this show? I'd like to be able to tell my family where my home show is this year lol
  18. Got word from the assistant director, Cincinnati Tradition will be in Class A this season
  19. Well right now I have a Denis Wick 2XL (classic) and a Jettone Helleburg and another that I'm currently using. Neither of them gimme that "sweet spot" of comfort while playing
  20. What is a really good mouthpiece to use playing G contra?
  21. Cincinnati Tradition is proud to announce the 2013 show titled “Breakdown.” This year’s program delves into the darker psyche of mankind, tracing the uncontrollable spiral of emotions we face as we struggle to make sense of our place in this world. At times we are light-hearted and content with life; but we are all just a snapping point away from losing our grasp on reality, drowning in the abyss of disillusion. This distorts our hopes and dreams into confused obsession, which will ultimately lead to an untimely demise. The opening segment of the 2013 program is “Joy” from Awakening (Joseph Curiale). Continuing with the excitement of the 2013 show, “Breakdown”, part 2 of the show is Disillusion – represented by the tune “Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy” as performed by Barbra Streisand & Judy Garland. Just when you think things are going well, there’s a break from reality. A voice in your head makes you second guess whether you’re actually joyful or if that joy is just an illusion. Part 3 of the show is Confusion – Represented by “The Resistance” from Muse. Though you resist, the darkness begins to overwhelm, the light slips away, what is happening…. I don’t want this…… Part 4 of the show is “Depression” illustrated by the song “Creep” by Radiohead. Now stuck in the throes of depression hopelessness sets in…. Part 5 of the show and the closer, “Self Destruction/Total Breakdown” is represented by “Welcome to the Masquerade” by Thousand Foot Krutch (TFK) http://www.youtube.c...h?v=02BRnI3iUO4 (The links are provided as examples and are in no way the actual arrangement.)
  22. I can say that returning vets and new members are very into the show. We have already played through the opener and I thought it sounded better than last year's opener for sure. We are pulling out the big guns this year. ;)
  23. I march for Cincinnati Tradition and we are trying to find some more 3v G contras so that we can have all of our section on 3v horns as we only have 2 at the moment. Message me here if you know where we could get some or email me at chase.todd89@gmail.com
  24. I remember I brought a sousa when I auditioned for Blue Stars in '09, thankfully I didn't have to use it cause I was the 7th contra when I auditioned lol, though if you're auditioning for a corps that still uses G horns (Tradition, Renegades, Empire Statesmen) your concert horn wouldn't do you much good in getting used to a G horn lol
