I haven't watched the show live yet, just recordings but I can't wait to see them in ATL. The show is awesome. I wish more people would move away from "abstract art" and just have fun and be entertaining. Kinda like Surf, Scouts, and Spirit.
This is going to be bashed for wanted DCi to become less educational but I think DCI can do two things to gain new fan bases but I have no clue how you motivate the corps to do so.
1. Make volume...not cleanliness your number one priority.
2. Play relevant shows with updated music.
I completely agree! I mean I'm not a huge fan of the randomness I just have a ton of respect for the level of performance they give. They are crazy clean but my heart lives in Madison. That's why I like high notes and volume.
The idea isn't really that hard. It's a contemporary show challenging what is "art" and what is "acceptable". Its not really rocket science. I'm not a huge fan of the randomness but I get where they are going with it. Once again, BD is crazy good but their show doesn't connect.
I'm bias in this argument. I just don't appreciate electronics on field....at all. It's just not for me. There have been hundreds of great solos in the past that didn't need mics but then again that was a different day. Leads of old and the leads of today don't have much in common in general.
I really don't know much when it comes to..well anything much to be honest but my guess would be DCI is suffering because music education in general is suffering and moving in a different direction. Band/Orchestra/Choral programs all over the country are being cut and its just a different time. I don't think WW would help the activity. In fact i think WW could destroy DCI just by the fracturing of an already shrinking fan base.
